2019 Recruiting Class Thread

Just a cool recruiting graphic.

DwfbAqRWkAEOyA5.jpg

I hate us.

All the room created from the departures to the NFL and the transfers that look to now be in progress leads to the question of how much of this CJF could have known about. Surely he would have pushed for over 20 early signing period signings if he would have known about even two-thirds of this past weeks departures....

Gonna be an interesting next 3.5 weeks!

Just tossing this in here since we've gone against South Carolina for recruits a couple times recently...

http://footballscoop.com/news/video-south-carolina-players-get-first-look-new-50-million-facility/

Will Muschamp has been calling the Gamecocks new facility a “game changer” since he first saw the plans for it, and the completion of the project means that all of football operations can finally be housed under a single roof.

The new facility carried a $50 million price tag and spanned 110,000 square feet, and includes new locker rooms, dining rooms, a players lounge, interactive displays showing the history of the program, new weight room, a 15-seat movie theater, barber shop, and a recording studio donated by South Carolina alum Darius Rucker.

Clemson and Pittsburgh seem to be on two different planets as far as their success on the recruiting trail goes. The Tigers have the fourth overall recruiting class and the Panthers sit at No. 38. Pittsburgh's last three recruiting classes have finished in the 30s, while Clemson has had top 15 classes going back to the 2010 recruiting class

Consecutive top 15 recruiting classes year in and year out helps alot. Look where Clemson is now... I know coaching plays into it as well, but the Joe's play a huuuuge part...

What position does 4 Star Athlete Mark Anthony Richards play on defense? His size says he might be one mean S.....bring in Nick Cross and MAR for S?

I think most of us would be cool with that, but I doubt MAR would say the same! Kind of like CJ Holmes when he was being recruited, he wanted to play RB and we wanted him as an athlete, probably DB, so he chose ND instead of PSU. I hope he chooses PSU, I've been saying MAR is probably my favorite recruit out of them all, for a while now!

Important dates:
January 19th: Ellies to announce at Polynesian Bowl
January 25th: Darkwa to officially visit
January 25th: Nester to officially visit
January 25th: Sorrells to officially visit
February 1st: Cross to officially visit

We are going to get Ellies. Make it 19 commits. 6-9 more. Well if we could get the other 4 official visitors (no easy task to flip 2 guys) then it's 2-5 more. Names to know are Houston, Jones, Richards, and Smith. The staff is going down to see Richards this week. He has already official visited. Need to get Jones and Houston on campus to have a chance there. Vilbert Smith things are already looking pretty good.

For those that are curious I am saying up to 10 more because we can back date 3 to 2018 (at least that is my understanding of the current rules).

Top 10 unsigned players in the East's 2019 class

3. D'VON ELLIES, DT, OWINGS MILLS (MD.) MCDONOGH

D'Von Ellies will make his announcement during Saturday's Polynesian Bowl and the two finalists are Penn State and USC. He made official visits to both schools prior to the early signing period. He has laid low in recruiting and did not visit anywhere last weekend because he was already on his way to Honolulu for the all-American game. His coach said he did not sign during the early season period in December, which means he could still make visits leading up to Feb. 6, but the plan is for him to shut down the process after his announcement.

4. NICK CROSS, S, HYATTSVILLE (MD.) DEMATHA

Nick Cross, who is the No. 6 safety in the 247Sports Composite, is a long-time Florida State commit but he did not sign in December. Penn State continued to work on him and secured an official visit for the weekend of Feb. 1, which means the Nittany Lions get the last crack on him. Georgia also worked Cross hard and wanted to get an official visit, but that will not happen since Cross already made spring official visits to Auburn, Florida State, Alabama and Florida, so the one to Penn State will be his fifth and final one.

9. SMITH VILBERT, DE, MONTVALE (N.J.) ST. JOSEPH

Things certainly picked up for Smith Vilbert since the early signing period ended, and it was evident in the first two days of this week as coaches from Penn State, Michigan, Florida State, LSU and Tennessee each came through. Florida was set to visit with Vilbert on Wednesday. He just returned from an official visit to Florida and he set one for Syracuse for Jan. 25. Penn State, where he visited last month, remains entrenched in his recruitment as well but Oregon, where he also officially visited, faded. He could also schedule an official visit for this coming weekend or Feb. 1.

Top Ten performers, Alpha Dog from Day One at Polynesian Bowl

TEAM MAUKA TOP 5: DT D'VON ELLIES

DT D'Von Ellies

One of the top uncommitted players in game (Ellies will announce on Saturday during the game and choose between Penn State and USC), Ellies continued his dominance at Polynesian Bowl events, after earning his invitation at the Poly Bowl Combine in Las Vegas. Ellies has a quick first step, plays with great leverage, showed good backside pursuit to get a tackle for loss on one of the Mauka's running backs and was a pest for the offensive linemen.

If any of the 2018 were back dated to 2017 then maybe more than 3 could be backed to 2018.... Who really knows how the paperwork with the NCAA is completed. But if the back dating is still allowed it would make sense to fill previous classes first each year, as long as there are enough EE's to do that......

NCAA reporting works on a quarterly cycle. Class to which players who entered school in January 2018 would have been reported by the end of March 2018.

NCAA isn't particularly rigorous when it comes to schools that want to reclassify players. That said, any compliance officer with half a brain would classify as many early entrants as possible against the previous class.

Penn State is closing in on possibly its most impressive recruiting effort yet under James Franklin.

The Nittany Lions are still gunning for the No. 1 recruiting class in the Big Ten and more as they hit the home stretch to National Signing Day on Feb. 6.

For now, Penn State's 2019 class is hovering around 10th nationally. But it has fewer commitments than anyone ahead of it — and so more space to add players and rise.

The Lions also boast the No. 4 average star rating among recruits, behind only Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State.

Fake news. Propaganda. This program is in crisis. Stop the bleeding..............

I don’t think there is any question - especially when you look at the uncontrollable factors, like PA being nearly barren vav top-end prospects - this 2019 recruiting class is damn near a miracle effort by CJF and crew.

But thinking that a tremendous recruiting effort for the 2019 signing class somehow eradicates any concern vav the unprecedented exodus of kids leaving the program?
That’s just too manifestly stoopid for words.

One doesn’t eliminate the other. They aren’t even related (though, depending on WHY there has been a mass exodus, it certainly COULD effect recruiting moving forward. Hopefully not, but only time will tell if that is the case)

“Your heart is as healthy as a 20 year old’s..... but there is an inoperable malignant tumor tearing through your brain”

“But the ticker is good? Great!! Thanks Doc!”

So nothing you have read or know has made you understand that this isn't some earth shattering event? I think it makes perfect sense to a lot of people

Top Ten performers, Alpha Dog from Day Two at Polynesian Bowl

DT D'Von Ellies

A repeat top performer from earlier in the week, Ellies continued his stellar play Wednesday. He was explosive in one-on-one battles, using his quickness to keep blockers guessing. He also had a couple nice moments at defensive end and has a lot of variance to his game. Ellies is set to announce his college choice Saturday between a final two of Penn State and USC.

Tyler Bowen visited tonight w/ Brett Seither, TE from Clearwater Central Catholic. Noticed his hometown is Warwick, MD and has an OV to the Terps on 1/25. Will be interesting to see how this develops. His HUDL video looks great. Looks like a good route runner and has great blocking skills. He runs his feet very well when drive blocking.
