Nice start by PSU in Sessions 1A and 1B. and going 3-1 in Session 2A.

Please use this for all pre-session, in-session, and post-session discussions. If you're replying to another post, please use the Quote function.

When:
Thursday, March 18, 9 pm EDT

Where:
St. Louis, MO

TV:
ESPN2

Video Stream:
EPSN3 -- they'll have coverage on all 8 mats. You can watch multiple mats simultaneously on your computer, or watch only 1 mat -- you decide.

Audio Stream:
Jeff Byers's radio PBP will be streamed. There is no pre-session audio -- coverage starts at 9 pm EDT. You can access the audio stream at:

PBP:
I'll provide coverage of as many PSU matches as I can (basically, all of them, unless two PSUers end up wrestling at the same time).

Team Scoring:
The best place, IMHO, to get updated team scoring is the Penn State Wrestling Club's web site. You can access the virtual team scoring at:

Mat Assignments:
I post upcoming PSU mat assignments as I learn of them. Others do as well; we try to help each other out during NCAAs. The best sources I have found for mat assignments in past Nationals were TrackWrestling (go to their dashboard) or the Twitter account of Penn State Wresting (@pennstateWREST).

Let's keep it going, PSU

yep. Should have been a tech fall
Still a good win for Nick

Lee got his last TD with a min left to make it 13-3. A 4 pt NF with riding time gives him a TF. The TD/release route would have required 4 TDs in the last minute.

I guess Nick thought option 1 was his chance ... either way that kid was just wrestling to avoid the tech.

My brackets show his next match is Friday morning. Edit, Talking about Howard

Brady does the Riddler on him, lmfao - somehow I have a feeling the Iowa fans aren't gonna label that as "great wrestling" (as the do with staller-man... errr I mean Eireman). Again LMAO - what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.
I just checked HR. They said it was a superb performance by Berge and that the better man won without any consternation.

Foley's going to win that match, but confused how it's a shame MH won't AA when he'll have gone 1-2 at that point and has done jack squat outside B1G (and not all that much in the B1G).

FWIW, I share the frustration with what happened in the Heil match. However, I think a lot of you are pointing in the wrong direction.

The fault is with the table officials, not with the refs.

The only mistake made by the refs with the clock issue was by the 2nd official. They are supposed to verify that the clock is moving. However, that's easier to do when it's not a big deal if you turn away from the action. With 7 sec left, the focus is more on the wrestling, and either an illegal hold or OOB, etc.

We can't use video replay in high school, so I don't have any experience with the use of it in matches. However, I know somebody that is in the room where all the video reviews take place. (Not that that matters -- just throwing it out there.) That said, it is my understanding that if you have a clock issue where a clock is ticking, you can use that to set the correct time. When you have an issue where a clock doesn't start, it's considered dead time, so you restart it from that point, which is what they did.

Tim Shields (the guy that was interviewed by ESPN) didn't help himself with his explanation, but he did give the gist of the rule.

Hell got screwed, but that wasn't on the refs. In fact, if the 2nd official had picked up that the clock hadn't started, all he would have done is called out clock and the head official would have stopped action, and they would have restarted with 7 seconds left -- which they did, though not via that mechanism.

the ncaa should be embarrassed by the performance of these officials... and we aren’t even thru one day
The lead official said they could not take off time when the clock did not work. Rubbish. Tell that to the nfl.

should have been cutting him way earlier

That one ranks up there with that match a few years ago where a point was missed by either the refs or scoretable.
Also ranks up there with the Russian basketball win in the Olympics...keep replaying until you get the desired outcome!

He did lose to Lugo as well, in the consi's 2 years ago I believe.
