Kysen has 2 years of eligibility left. Covid year, medical redshirt, etc. Redding isn’t making 133 again. Diversent is not the project many think he is based off recent information from the room. Bigger questions is if he could make 125, but I’m expecting him to. If ech can’t make 141, bigger frost will battle Redding for the spot
If Terukina is back in their lineup next year, it’ll make them that much better. He proved last year that he’s dangerous. He took out Barnett and Poulin amongst others and he’s a 3x NQ. Diversent has the goods to make noise based off of what we know about him right now. I could see Echemendia moving up to 149 because he looked huge at 141 last year. Swiderski is the one of the two I’d guess to take a RS. If he’s growing as rumored, he’d have a year to acclimate to his new weight class and be ready to roll in 25-26.

I’d like to see how they match up with Iowa. This seems like it’s one of the strongest ISU teams Dresser has ever put out on the mat.

This is a shock to some of the GIA “insiders”.

I don’t envy the Iowa fans having to sift through some of their phony insiders. @js8793 and others having fun with Gobblin and Multi Hawk among others
I think everybody on HR knew Carroll was going to ISU. The insiders were talking about a different transfer.

Offseason rumors are fun, there's probably smoke to it, whether minor or major, who knows. But it's the running rampant with dreams afterwards that is enjoyable for me to follow. For example, Teemer to Iowa ... okay I could buy that. Then that soon becomes "I bet him and Parco can get Figs also and we can change Alirez mind after he sees our team and then I bet AJ behaves himself and takes the 197 spot end of the season"

They are delusional. Elite hs kids are going elsewhere, wrestlers are no longer beating down the door to go to Iowa yet to them every transfer wants to go there. I think timing totally kicked them in the balls with Taylor losing and OSU nabbing him for themselves. I think Iowa is one of the other programs Taylor would love to resurrect. Unfortunately for them, that contract extension to Brands that I laughed at came back to bite them. That and Taylor ending his Senior career earlier than we anticipated. I love how things just keep shaking out for the Hawkeyes.

Make sure you copy and paste your post on GIA too! 😈

Taylor's senior career only ended three months early. Iowa should have been ready when he lost and pounced. Their loyalty to Brands, while admirable in one sense, may bite them in the backside for many years. They only have themselves to blame.

Yeah, maybe but imo the Taylor loss made him available to coach this year instead of next or the year after. Remember their fans getting pissed that PSU fans were telling them we hope theyd extend Brands for 10 years? It's funny to look back on.. ha

idk if that’s how i’d characterize the thread. teemer, figs and alirez were brought up as guesses because the inside alluded to the transfer being a finalist. it wasn’t “once we get Teemer then these other guys will follow.”

and most people are having fun joking about how premature the teemer talk is. it’s not. great example of HR gone crazy imo. just a normal offseason thread.

Bartelt could end up at 184. But depth is a major key to building a contender. Penn State is the pinnacle of depth, I like what Iowa State is doing to get talent in to at least mimic that to a much smaller extent
Definitely, maybe a few teams will out point them at nationals but I don’t see this much depth anywhere besides Penn State. Some of those John Smith teams from 5-10 years ago seemed to have 15 or so guys that could all American.

You got a link for the interview or article? Thanks!
You have to be a Rokfin subscriber. They start talking about tampering issues about 15 minutes or so in if I remember correctly.

There have been rumors on another of our boards that several teams, including PSu, have had to “play defense” to counteract offered pay days from Iowa boosters.

It’s clearly the Wild West and I don’t know the solution. I do agree with many observers that this is not good overall for non revenue sports.

Thank you! NCAA doesn’t care about wrestling, they won’t enforce rules on a sport that doesn’t matter much to them. All schools could drop wrestling and they wouldn’t be phased. It’s the wild west in their profit sports as well and it doesn’t phase them.

It's not a good sign when a team is still trying to supplement their lineup in July.
It’s not a good sign a team is trying to better their lineup? I’d be more upset if a Tom was content with the black hole we have at 25 when Drake moves up.

Luke signed with Penn State 9 weeks ago, Iowa has had virtually 2 years to recruit Luke legally and they do it ... summer as he's enrolling at Penn State when the 125/133 incoming blackhole was obvious for idk ... 1-2 years now?

It's a little late, don't you think?

LOIs are signed, the portal is closed, and most wrestlers are already training with their teammates.

It's desperation to try to buy a lineup this late, and like I said, it's not a good sign.

"We like our guys..."

Until we don't.
I don't think I have to spell out Luke's resume but .... it wasn't particularly a secret he was an elite prospect early on (Cadet Silver and Gold before his junior year started) and to my knowledge, Iowa didn't make his final list even, showing either a total lack of interest from one side or another.

And before Iowa fans can bring up the fact they had Jesuroga, Luke committed to PSU April of 2023, Jesuroga had officially done an interview saying he was done with the sport before then and that news was known way before then even (rumblings by Fall of 2022)

Yes, they’re doing this about 3 months late I don’t disagree. Mineo has mentioned the grad transfer portal opens in August and I’m assuming they’re going to throw it all at a one year filler at 25.

I'm assuming this has been a prolonged effort since NCAAs. The net has just been lessened to only be graduate transfers now since allegedly there is another window (I'm still confused since I thought it was airtight the window is closed)

Doesn’t make any sense to me either, I thought with the new rules everyone has to enter at the same time.

If someone can post any kind of legislation that shows there is an August window, that would be great because I legitimately have looked and can't find it. I'm not saying it's false but all interpretations I've found have been been clear that the window is the window.

“There will continue to be exceptions to the legislated transfer windows, including for the departure of a head coach or a discontinued sport. Student-athletes who plan to enroll as graduate students at their next school can enter the portal at any time during the academic year but must enter the portal prior to the conclusion of their respective sports' final transfer windows.“

This is the only piece I can find that points to an August portal date but it also says you must enter before the final portal date.

It seems pretty airtight to me. I mentioned before the portal is a "no strings attached, coaches can't stop you" formality for transfers, if a kid really wants to, he can just demand a release. Suriano did it and bypassed a sitout and Big Ten eligibility loss rule as well. But that wouldn't apply to just graduate transfers then.

Sounds like Lilledahl was a pivot for Slumlord Bob, after getting rejected by Matt Ramos (never in the portal) and Jore Volk (also never in the portal).

So far his illegal poaching attempts have been 100% rejected -- which is both appropriate and entertaining as hell.

For a guy handing out bags of cash the slumlord dude gets rejected a good bit. When a guy constantly can not give away his money he must come across as an ass.

It is also quite stunning the need and desire Iowa has for transfers. It's almost as though they can't develop a wrestler on their own.

Yeah, it would be nice to see some severe sanctions, however with the NCAA(whomever that is in this day and age) we all know that is damn wishful thinking.

The NCAA doesn't enforce the rules for any sports, revenue-generating or not.

In general, the tampering stuff doesn't really bother, surprise, or matter to me. Seems like it's common knowledge at this point that Iowa (and many other schools) is willing to pay good money for recruits and transfers. I don't think a wrestler being approached before or after an arbitrary, NCAA-determined deadline is going to really change anything.

A guy at Lilledahl's level knows he can go basically anywhere and get as much NIL as anyone. I think reasons for choosing a school go a lot deeper than that.

Iowa doesn’t have a problem having to defend their roster, not much worth defending.

Is it really illegal if the NCAA doesn’t care enough to take action?
NCAA knows that Bob reaches out for Iowa, and the NCAA has yet to care.
Yes it is. If you're speeding but don't get caught, you were still speeding and breaking the law. I thought folks knew what morals were. Apparently not.
