2025 Transfer Portal (Non-PSU guys)

I think the official portal opens March 19 thru May 2, but it's the Wild West now, so those days aren't really important.

I heard Ghadiali to Penn State has been all but a done deal for a while now.
Well y'all know I am skeptic when it comes to either Marisola ever getting to a full sized heavy, but it seems Ghadiali and Cole are pretty close to the same tier, both in terms of size and performance. Likely career undersized, definite AAs, but not title threats.

If I had to guess, at the moment I would lean Ghadiali in a wrestleoff next fall, but to be fair Cole's true freshman year has impressed at times, and a RS freshman >> a true freshman.

Could Cael get Gh to jump levels over a summer? Maybe, but on balance, aside from Dean (MM & GK don't count), most of our first year starter-starter transfers have been largely underwhelming. I think it takes 2 years for Cael's magic to take hold.

Probably the bigger question here is we have two very talented brothers who, 12 months ago were the default future at the top two weights, and now each may get squeezed out. If this move happens it could prove the catalyst to some of the Domino's starting to fall. As it pertains to our room, Darwin's theory holds true, as it should with a pure meritocracy. Survival of the fitest.

Yeah, Penn State has done no better than anyone else, and probably worse than Michigan, at the one-year grad transfers. That's not Cael's game at all. I'd much rather just stick with the Mirasola brothers and see what they can do with a year of experience in the room than add patches for a couple more points in a tournament Penn State is going to win by 50+ anyway. This year's team is spoiling people with potential contenders or at least AAs at every single weight. Even our best lineups in this dynasty have never once had the same sort of lack of holes in it. Run with Cole next year, and if he ends up being a little too small and can't compete with the super athletic 250+ guys, then so be it, we may "only" have 9 AAs.

I think the Ghadiali interest could be insurance for if Barr wants to stay 197 after winning Nationals and Connor can't make 184. I could see both Mirasola bros heading somewhere as a package deal if that ends up happening (not saying it will).

Ghadiali not a title threat? With how much hwt clears out next year won’t he start ranked close to one?? Trumble, Feldman, and Kueter are top returners for next year and Ghadiali already beat Feldman earlier..

I think it’s smart to bring in someone else
Mirasola needs to gain weight and size
Also, what if there is an injury , we have no one

Bastida is next year's favorite.

Haven't seen any evidemce of any other returnee being at his level.
That is possible, but he still didn’t AA last year, and Feldman/Ghadi did… point is they are all pretty close no?

Bastida broke his hand in practice less than a week before NCAAs.

He beat Elam and Hendrickson at B12s without the broken hand.

Mirasola looked tentative and slow which isn't a good mix if you're undersized.
Just sayin

Cael isn’t doing his job if someone is available, and he doesn’t put out feelers
Put out feelers, sure, but there's no compulsion to take concrete action here. Cael's job is to win national titles. PSU is gonna win next year too, barring something cataclysmic. Getting a HWT for 2026 is not a requirement, especially a 1-yr rental HWT. It's a desire for the fans, and maybe/maybe not for the coaches.

Or they think mirasola needs another year , and want a 1 yr rental

Not that it makes a big difference, but I thought it was a dislocated/mangled finger?

Either way, he was essentially wrestling 1-handed.
