Sounds completely unacceptable and frankly smells of a scam. I would call Hertz and/or Hotwire on speaker at the counter.

if you google "Hertz not honoring hotwire reservation", you will see a LOT of complaints. looks like this is fairly common.

I know asking this on the board is goofy but...has anyone had a Hotwire res and the rental car co refuses to honor the prepaid reservation?

I get to the counter in Boston and the Hertz rep says "yeah, Hotwire hasn't paid us and you owe us additional funds". In the meantime, I have confirm from the cc company and Hotwire.

FWIW, the rental co's in Boston are the absolute worst "Yankee Schisters" I have ever met.

Budget is the same way.

You make a reservation on THEIR website for say (Las Vegas) You get there and the counter rep says: That is for a company store; we're a franchise store sir. It doesn't apply!
