Agreed, the possible semifinals are as intriguing as the potential finals. It's that way every year in the best wrestling conference in the country. The wrestling is amazing.

Frankly, I'll be on the each of my seat for all the bouts with Penn State guys, win or lose.

I think my #1 non-PSU matchup that I'm looking forward to is the #1 matchup in the video - the Seabass vs Riddler semi. That one should be a barn burner.

I'm going to go on record and predict that this match doesn't happen. I think Rivera is going to default out before then. Just a hunch based on the press around his injury, etc.

Ditto, but pretty good choices.
Also RBY/ADS, but for the theatrics more than the wrestling.

Dean/Caffey too
Dean / Caffey concerns me. Caffey length and athletic nature makes it difficult for Dean to score from his feet. Coin toss in 2nd might determine match.

Suriano is begging to take a loss at some point by wrestling so many close matches. Hilde has felt him now and they've coached him up, I wouldn't be shocked to see him win this.

Nicky Portal is not wrestling close matches this year. The only regular decision he’s had was against Hildebrandt. In his other matches, he’s had four majors, two techs, and a pin.

Angel Rivera vs. Beau Bartlett
The Brands Brothers vs. Sanity
Austin De Satan-o vs. Winner of Brands Brothers vs. Sanity
Cassiopi's top ride vs. Drying Paint
Shane Sparks vs. A Restraining Order for Too Much Enthusiasm

Shane Sparks is such a genuine nice guy. I really like him.

That said could you imagine that guy as your dad, holy crap? He makes the Brands' look like zombies.

He sounds exactly like he does on TV as he does on the phone and in person.

Sparks has apparently shared some :)

He also hasn't wrestled any other top guys. He's not a clear cut favorite over the top five.
He can only wrestle who shows up for the other team. Heinzelman and McKee aren't exactly chopped liver, and he majored both. No one is the level of favorite that Lee would have been, but Suriano is definitely a clear favorite in the B1G and one of three (with Vito and Glory) for the NCAAs.

And there seemed to be something up with him in his match with Drew. We all know “that match,” like Zain’s tight one with BS, …

I am up for Hilde and Suriano. Now that Hilde faced him once and Suriano tendency to turtle up in big matches would love to see Hilde put the hard cross faced ride on him!
I don't know what big matches has seen Nick Suriano "turtle up" .

In his entire NCAA career, he's lost 1 postseason match (injury defaults aside), and that was a regular decision to Spencer Lee in an NCAA final.

I think that Dean gets him fairly easily (for Dean). Caffey got bailed out the last time with a couple long breaks when he was gassing.

The Bartlett v Blockhus could really set the tone for the Championships along with Edsell's match with Lohrey. I like the Berge draw so that will be fun to watch as well.

Other matches for me will be just to see how Kemerer holds up physically. I think it will be a good look at his Nationals potential.

Yeah, in 2019, he beat Pletcher, ADS, Lizak (x2), Micic, and Fix in postseason matches, three of whom he lost to in regular season duals. I don't see "turtling up" there at all.

I was surprised how quickly Suriano got out from Hildebrandt in the dual. That's the position I was most hopeful for Drew to do some damage, and it didn't work out that way in the dual. Hopefully Drew can stop his initial burst and break him down this time.

Nick is a tough defensive wrestler and very strong and rarely gets caught on the bottom but I am hoping if Hilde can get those boots in deep he could give Nick a nasty ride. Nick turtles up against top wrestlers so this match will be a low scoring affair. Nick will probably win but Hilde has a chance if he plays his cards just right with a little luck!

I mean he isn't going to let thing fly offensively. These matches are all 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 type matches. When you wrestle that close in big matches anything can happen and happen quick as time expires.

I’ve only watched Hilde maybe a half dozen times since he came over to Penn State. Seems to me he’s really tall and athletic for 125, good on top and always seems to be in control in matches. I’m curious for those that follow other teams more closely how has his wrestling improved or changed if it all from his days at Western Michigan?

Although the riding time point Nicky Portal was awarded when time expired was the last point Hildebrandt has given up to any opponent. That was six weeks and six matches ago ... Could have been less to do with Nick being "off" and Drew just being a very, very good defensive wrestler.
