The softball season is over at 29-28 and the team is currently ranked 75th in the NCAA rankings which will probably not change much. Most will say 'why even mention that', however, it is a major improvement from last year when they won only 14 games. Best news is that they are young and return a lot of offense. Biggest deficiency is that they do not have a overpowering pitcher who accumulates a lot of strike outs. However, I look for them to be a lot better next year and they appear to be heading in the right direction.

Getting the hoops recommit is huge. Position of need, played for NC last year in HS and he plays with Reaves (sp) in non HS competition. With these kids talking to other recruits, it has to bode well for us. If Chambers can get 2 more 3-4 stars in this rising HS class, the roster when these players are true frosh will be the most athletic I have seen at PSU ever and I am a 1970 grad. Maybe no one player is a scoring machines like Crispin or Battle, but lots of long and strong athletes who can run and play both ends.

In a recent wrestling event, Jason Nolf defeated Chance Marsteller something like 8-5. I mention this because many( including me) were upset when Marsteller committed and then changed his mind.

Staying on wrestling, it appears to me that if both Nico and Retherford participate next year, we will be co favorites with OSU to win the NC. Both of us have about 5 wrestlers who can rack up bonus points. Could come down to how the other five perform and/or if one of the bonus point machines on either side gets injured.

Do many realize that the PSU men's volleyball team has now been to the NCAA final four 17 straight years? Granted, winning the EIVA tourney puts us in the final four and we are certainly the predominant team in a weak league. But still, 17 straight qualifications. Withe the six team entry started two years ago and 2 of 4 now having to win a 'play in' match to get to final four, the streak will probably soon end. Still, pretty impressive and a great bar bet topic.

Shout out to the men's and women's cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field teams. These are basically the same athletes who compete year round. Have already placed four times in Learfield for us and both outdoor squads have qualified to compete in NCAA meet in a few weeks. When Beth Alford Sullivan left for Tennessee there was some uncertainty, but they promoted from within and the CC/T&F train kept rolling.

Finally, good luck to women's lacrosse versus NC. Lets get on to another final four.
