IIRC Shaun Smith beat Rob Koll [9-8 or something like that] in the 1st Rd on his way to that '83 title?
I think 1st rd losers were done back then?

3rd Round bout...Koll lost "Dec. 3-3 4-2 OT" to Smith, then lost again in consys to a Greg Zimmerman. Ended up 5th in '83.

1st Round losers were done, 2nd Round losers dropped down to the 1st Round of wrestlebacks.

Koll lost in the 1st Round in 1982.

Thanks for the kind words about mom; I'll definitely share with her & Little P. Not sure how much you know about our old man, but takes on him often differed than those on my mom. Did your dad used to be a cop? If my memory has this story right (told to me from Buck Meagher a few years back)...pops & buck and a few other bros were headed up to or back from a Penn State game, and they get pulled over in the old Lincoln Continental. Pops says 'hold on, I got this.' As a lifeguard and frequent volunteer with the Special Olympics, he'd seen his share of seizures, so decides to pretend he's having one! He gets out, beer cans spill out of the car, he walks to the back of the car, falls to the ground & starts spazzing around.

The cop (your pops?) walks up, looks at him pathetically and just says 'Roger, get up.'
