Adam Busiello - PSU fan and Super 32 Champ

Found this nice tidbit from the Scout board. Freshman Adam Busiello, #5 ranked at 106, won Super 32 wearing a faded PSU singlet. Check out this Twitter exchange:

Also notice his Black and Gold Asics...The duality of man.

Willie has him #5 at 106. That will likely change -- esp. since the #1 guy (D'Emilio) lost at S32.

The full conversation was:

@adambusiello congrats man! Fellow Long Islander here. Everyone on the PSU wrestling msg boards wants to know the story behind the singlet

@tikk10 love that college since 3rd grade and it's good luck wore it all my super 32 final matches

@adambusiello well then #WeAre! Curious where you got the singlet--it looks like it's from the late 1950s. Congrats again, good luck this yr

@tikk10 haha its beat up but thank you very much

By far the best 106 there, IMO. He had a wide array of attacks from neutral, with a nice ankle pick in the final, and nobody could escape his ride. It's always hard to project out, but I was impressed.

I would agree with this - although with the caveat that the 106 field IMO was not quite up to par with previous S32 106 fields.

Last few years there have been some really, really elite 106lbers that have spoiled us. This year with have a bunch of kids ranked highly because they are excelling at freestyle in the lower age and lower weights divisions which is always a little bit of a crapshoot rankings wise.

JoJo Aragona as a finalist - solid kid, but there are some 8th graders in PA I would take over him in folkstyle. Not a slam on the kid - please don't take it that way. BTW, does anyone know the deal with him listing Pope John, NJ as his school? I know he was scheduled to be 9th grade in Stroudsburg this year - is he doing a RS 8th at a Jersey catholic school?

That said, Busiello is really good, very tough kid. He beat D'Emilio - I think at this point he should be #1.

Adam Busiello, NY – Get his high school career off with a bang as he dominated the field to win his fourth belt (3 middle school, now one high school). He had two pins, two majors, two shutouts and a regular decision to take home the title at 106.

(Longer thread on Adam on "other" board)
Someone beat me to the punch on the Flo board, but Adam's got some Cary Kolat hair - looks a bit like him too.

I'm sure he appreciates the comparison. NY State used to allow eighth graders to compete in HS. He was a State champ in 2015, was this high school or Jr. High?

I found the answer. He was indeed a 2015 High School State champ. Teched his was to the finals where he won 11-1. Wow.

I believe the OP established that Busiello is currently a freshman.

For the record, Busiello won the 99 lbs. weight class in NY's Div. I States as an 8th grader. He won his R1 match by TF (15-0), his quarterfinal match by TF (18-1), his semifinal match by TF (16-0), and the final by an 11-1 major decision.

He was also the state runner-up as a 7th grader, making him only the third person in the history of the NYS DI tournament to do so...The last person to accomplish the feat was current PSU RS freshman, Shakur "Corey" Rasheed, who did so back in 2009.

Hey Hofman, welcome to the board. Enjoy your posts over on the USA forum. Guess the NY wrestler discussion sparked your interest and brought you over here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Tiger !!!

I've been a long-time reader of BWI. Just needed to find my moment to make a contribution.

Plus, I still have a bit of a debt to pay to the Nittany Lion faithful. You guys all let me slide quite a bit on the Alton Lucas/Quentin Wright signature bet back in the day :)

Given that Adam is a Longuyland boy, I'm surprised the indomitable Li Marty hasn't weighed in. That guy was a hoot.

Marty went off the radar a few years ago. He was indeed indomitable. Actually met him once at the ESU Open back when DT and Ruth were true freshmen.

Despite his reputation (which I have long suspected is an act for entertainment purposes), Marty really is a very nice guy.

I did some work on a local website and every year we would do a webcast of the NYS finals with Marty as one of the commentators....Despite me not being an on air personality, he always made sure I got my credit....Small things like that go a far in my book.
