After watching Nebraska/Iowa .....

Iowa and Nebraska coaches’ play calling was horrible. At least Iowa played for the win late and got the FG. Nebraska was running on 2nd and long and 3rd and 19 playing for the tie and OT. It ended up helping Iowa to win.

The 2nd down play when the Nebraska QB ran out of bounds lost the game for them , At least kept it from going to OT

Fortunately for Nebraska they had the refs in their pockets to make up for any bone headed Frost coaching decisions.

It was easy to see how Nebraska ended up with another losing season. This team has some really big problems on offense. They should probably go back to the wishbone.
And, my son and I watch the game and ask—- where did all the preseason live for Nebraska come from this year?
Why were they the new darling? Last year they didn’t exactly tear it up; so why the love?
Picked by several, ahem, experts to win the B1G west. Even one or two morons as a dark house to the CFP.
Now, the only bowling they get is the 24-lane alley in Lincoln as a team builder.

Edit
To give myself a good chuckle, I looked to see where Klatt had Nebraska in his preseason ranking.
#13! Oh, that would be one spot behind #12 Michigan State, and 8 places behind Michigan.
Keep in mind this “expert” had Nebraska at least 12 spots ahead of our unranked Nittany Lions. (Yes, he admitted he was wrong, but they are still no better than most on here. They just have a bigger audience).

And we complain about our clock management !
With the score tied, the Huskers got the ball off of a fumble with a little over two minutes to play around their own 30, as I recall. They proceed to run the ball. The announcers assumed they were playing for OT by the way they were just deliberately going about their business with running plays and taking their time getting lined up. Then, their QB, who is wildly overrated, runs out of bounds on a 3rd and long. That was the game.
Nebraska fans have good reason to be pissed,

Nebraska has not had the greatest recruiting classes recently and from what I have seen, the talent they have looks as if it has had some pretty uneven development.
I think they remain a strong sentimental favorite, which may explain the high preseason rankings. The move to the Big Ten has been disastrous for them so far.

I think Nebraska should have rushed three at the end and dropped into pass coverage.

Very true. Nebby was a preseason big ten west favorite by many. I think it was more from those type sports ‘reporters’ that get caught up in the packaging and not the actual product.

To them Frost and Harbaugh are brilliant and therefore their teams are going to be great. Problem is they never account for the actual talent on the teams or the fact that Frost and Harbaugh are more over hyped than anything else.

As for Klatt, he’s always downgraded PSU over the years. He’s a PAC 12 guy and tends to overrate the Washington/ Oregon types while underselling any big ten team not named OSU or Michigan.

He apologized and ranked PSU once called out and embarrassed on Twitter but next year it’ll be the same. He just sees PSU as an average team like a West Virginia or Washington State.

for curious minds ....

The wishbone has the quarterback taking the snap from under center, with a fullback close behind him, and two halfbacks (sometimes called tailbacks) further back, one slightly to the left, and the other slightly to the right. The alignment of the four backs makes an inverted Y, or “wishbone”, shape. There is typically one wide receiver and one tight end, but sometimes two wide receivers, or two tight ends.

The wishbone was designed to facilitate a running, option offense. It allows the quarterback to easily run the triple option to either side of the line. The quarterback first reads the defensive tackle or linebacker who is unblocked. As he reads the tackle/linebacker, he rides the ball in the fullback's gut. If the defensive tackle/linebacker looks to tackle the fullback the quarterback pulls the ball out and runs down the line to his next option read, usually the defensive end/outside linebacker. If the end/linebacker looks to tackle the quarterback, the ball is pitched to the trailing halfback. The lead halfback is a lead blocker usually looking to block the outside defensive player, a safety or corner. The tight end to the option side 'arc' releases to block the safety.

What I see when I watch other games ... college & NFL ... is that there really are no "perfect coaches".
