Anyone notice Ga State lost to an FCS team last night?

I see this as a positive. We will have two tune up games against cupcakes - Akron and Pitt. Then we will essentially have a bye week against Georgia State. The reserves can play most of the game. This puts us in great shape for the Iowa game.

No matter how good Georgia State is we would never get any national recognition for this game anyway. Better they be horrible and a cinch to beat.

There goes our strength of schedule point. Might have to root for Pitt to beat Ok. State.

There's a thread on the lair about how bad the big ten is and one of their loons actually posted that Pitts talent level is ALMOST on par with Ohio State.

Depending on the sport, he may have been right.

Of course, I can't think of which sport that might be... wasn't football, at least not within the past few decades.

It's going to be interesting if Youngstown hangs with pitt. It could easily happen. Pitt is greatly over-rated in the minds of the handful of pitt fatihful. The attendance at the Youngstown game is going to be interesting. Pitt is running TV ads like crazy (probably at taxpayer expense) begging people to come to their games. I bet they actually get about 10,000 attendees but of course they will report 42,000.

Bottom line: Nobody is interested in pitt football. It is not self-sustaining and is a drain on the taxpayers. pitt football should be lowered to club level and they should compete with Point Park, CMU, etc.

Ga State game will be a game where anybody with any type of injury, big or small, is going to sit for PSU. In essence it isn't much more than a scrimmage. Not the worst thing in the world before the start of the Big Ten season.

Iowa has N Texas the week before PSU. I don't know much about N Texas other than what I read in the last 3 minutes. Bowl game vs Army last season. I would imagine Iowa should be able to rest dinged guys too.

They were looking ahead. I had a co-worker whose son coached GSU. They were a good FCS team. Made it to the FCS final four.

I can't wait for the "Georgia State, Georgia State, Georgia State" comment when someone is looking ahead to a future game

Georgia SOUTHERN is probably who you are thinking of. They were very very good at the D-1AA/FCS level. Beat Florida in the Swamp a few years ago. Very recently have moved up to the Sun Belt.

Georgia State has simply never been very good since they started football in 2010. Best season ever was 6-5 in that first year: they needed multiple wins versus non D-1 teams to get to 6.

Thank for the clarification.

How long ago was GSU added to the schedule? I suspect it's related to the satellite camps...some sort of quid pro quo.

I didn't see any ties at the administrative level. Sort of like the first year we played Coastal Carolina. I wondered why we were playing them. They were still FCS at that time. One of Paternos '71? captains, Warren Koegel, was the AD at CC. I guess that was why.

Pretty much exactly why the game was scheduled. Game was initially scheduled in summer 2014. Franklin and then GSU-coach Trent Miles are friends.

Agreed. I'd expect anyone attending that game to see more backups play than at the BW game. Trace, Barkley and Gesicki best be out of the game by the 2nd series.
