Was reading the FSU 24/7 pay site just now (don't ask) and they are all over this. They posted a link to the meeting. They think there's a possibility JF walks and still goes to FSU. There's an OSU poster on there pretending he's not thrilled with the prospect of JF leaving PSU. It's certainly a different spin that what we're used to.
I think it's important that all threads on this board are focused on probable bad news. Thank you for getting things back on track.

CJF will retire from coaching at PSU. Mark it down. FSU fans can't possibly think he's going there. Any conversation he's had with them is merely to get a longterm contract. I know the chicken littles fear CJF will leave but it's not gonna happen. As long as PSU takes care of CJF, he will be at PSU. I believe this 100%.
Am I supposed to be happy about Franklin getting an extension? I want to be on the right side of this.

Imagine being a usc or fsu fan this week knowing that you are not getting an upper level hc. It is probably far worse at fsu considering how putrid their season was. At least usc was somewhat respectable. Geez, we really are not that removed in time from the horrible sandusky situation and yet we are in a much better position than both those schools.

I listened to a 247 podcast this morning and they had Danny Kannell on to discuss playoff rankings and the Florida State coaching search. One name that was never mentioned: James Franklin.
They're doubling Rhane's salary and naming him coach in waiting.

If they are going to give him a raise and an extension then I would hope they would up the buyout amount or they will be doing this every few years as the market price for elite coaches goes up. If you don’t up the buyout, you give him all the leverage when he wants to bend you over the barrel again.

how is winning ten games such a big deal? This year Franklin had six sure wins going into the season. I guess you are impressed by a 4-2 record in six games that presented a challenge? I’m not. so many here want to tie Franklin up long term with a gazillion dollar package? I am old school and I would give the $$$ only after he does something to deserve it. Playoffs? Have a winning record against our three primary B1G East opponents every year instead of half the time? B1G championships 2 or 3 times every four years, not once in four? How about making us elite? By his own admission we aren’t. That’s why we have to hear him at press conferences taking about wins over five years and poll status. If he would not have made the stupid elite comments in his frustration after losing again to tOSU we could avoid his posturing.

This is stupid. People like you act like we’ve been winning the B1G and competing for national championships for decades. Guess what. It’s been 25 years since our last perfect season and 33 since our last national championship. Oh, and more recently the world tried to kill our program. Like it or not, right now James Franklin is the perfect coach for us. He’s a great recruiter who also wins a ton of games. People like you will drive us to Tennessee status if you don’t watch it.
These types of posts bear no gravitas because they never offer a realistic alternative...it is too easy to state how bad something is if there is no need to identify a preferred option...not being confrontational, but for the sake of discussion which realistic alternative coach would have had the success that CJF has had at PSU to date, especially considering the situation at his time of hire?
Separately, looking forward, which realistic option would be expected to exceed the expectations for the CJF tenure in the near future?
It's out there to read-but the most important thing to Franklin is money to upgrade the facilities. Of course he'll take the raise too. Look at a place like Northwestern-some rich donor basically bought them a whole new football facility which is PSU doesn't upgrade will be nicer than theirs.
That thing has an incredible lake view. I’m not sure what it takes to be nicer than that.
Sport, I have zero say in what Penn State does with their millions. I wish we had someone in the AD office who asked hard questions before writing checks as though the guy is elite. He is handsomely compensated now and deserves a raise once he earns it based on the kind of metrics I outlined. My last word on it, promise.
I believe it was stated here that the money has been raised for the upgrades. Maybe I'm wrong.
