Are we allowed to complain about Rivals on this board?

A caller called into Phils show complaining about Rivals ranking system and how something is "not right" about it and I am starting to see what he is talking about. What's the deal?

Damn, you're quick.....as soon as I saw Rivals, I thought ONLY Temple and Rutgers deserved Rivals as a capitalized word!
Well, they say "great minds" think alike............or is it "small minds" think alike? Well, in any event, I probably beat you tonight because you were comforting Fonzie in his misery and yours is the higher calling.

Farrell is a POS and I hope he sees this and bans me

Shhhh, he's about to break another exclusive scoop!

Guys, chill a bit. I try to give you some freedom. That said, what do you think is the likely result if you go overboard about Rivals employees on a message board that is hosted on the Rivals network?

Tom, you won't catch me giving them any grief.....they might revert The Board back to the prior operating system, punish us all by allowing true THREADS and, worse, take all my LIKES away!

I thought this thread was going to be about how Rivals allows mackdaddy/felli/etc.. to post his non-sense on the McAndrew board!

I don't know where PSU's 2016 recruiting class is currently ranked on Rivals, but I was watching the De La Salle-Trinity high school game on ESPN2, and they showed a graphic that had PSU with the No. 4 class. I guess ESPN likes PSU after all.

Farrell should not be allowed around PSU commits, that BS he did with the Lavert Hill interview was horrible. He might as well said, "Just flip to michigan now, come on, do it."

Yeah, the Rivals 250 prior to the recent update had 7 PSU commits. In the update, EVERY ONE dropped in the rankings, including Zembiec, who slid out of the top 250. And several of the profiles, like those on Miles Sanders and Lavert Hill, seemed to emphasize the possibility of them switching.

It was not fair treatment of the PSU commits.

Sounds like click bait to me.

I come here for the entertainment value. I go to other sites for my recruiting information. Rivals won't get my money until they clean up their act. Too bad, soo sad. Ban me, I'll keep coming back with a different email address like a cockroach. Post count and likes mean nothing to me. One site even has one of our lineman recruits as a 5*, while this site has him dropping. Lol, gimme a break.

Why care how Rivals rates them. The only thing that matters is how they perform on the field.

There is no point in biting the hand that feeds you, but the trend with Rivals and PSU is unmistakeable. It's their business to run as they please, but every time I get close to giving them my money they seem to give me a reason not to.

At this very moment, after getting Pryts, we are now further behind Michigan!

Do you really want to get into a battle of wits with this guy?

Central Connecticut State? Really?
After a brief back and forth the line from Coriolanus would be appropriate, “More of your conversation would infect my brain.”

All in good fun.

I'm generally not paranoid about this type of thing, but the trend you cite is undeniable. There is a bias against PSU. Doesn't really matter. Franklin is flat out convincing talented players to come to PSU. It's just that the bias is so predictable that it's now funny.

I ended my subscription after 14 years. I got lucky. My card was attacked, but my credit union caught it, cancelled my card and sent me a new one. When Rivals attempted to renew me automatically, they had my old card numbers. I got to think about Rivals, Nate Bauer, and some of his smug correspondence with me. I decided to keep my money and just use Tom's Board only. I am more than happy with my decisions.
I get updates from another service which is trying to get me to join, announcing new commits. It's a beautiful thing. Screw Rivals.

That's true, but I also think higher rated recruits draw higher rated recruits. A top 10 class draws attention, and a top 5 draws even more.

That's very true but recruits are also very aware that PSU currently has the NO. 4 CLASS at Scout, 247, and ESPN . They know who the best recruits are and iron sharpens iron. I have 2 premium memberships right now and actually had 3 when I came back to rivals a few months ago only to leave when they changed the format and more importantly , left the inmates out. I'm not a big conspiracy theory guy , but they certainly seem to have talent evaluators with some differing opinions of the other major sites in the country. That being said , I think rivals has the best network of "open" boards out there. If you want to visit opposing team sites to see whats going on , you really can't beat them.

Nailed it. Like it or not, rankings in this day and age matter. Maybe not for a player or team on the field, but for perception. Franklin is killing it the last 2 years, and people are noticing. That includes top recruits.

Nate is a good dude. Ease up a bit. Now Tom, on the other hand, is a handful!

JK Tom. JK Tom. JK Tom.

;)

According to his Linkedin bio, it only took him 14 years to graduate, too. Must have taken every course in their catalog.

So... Emmert, Triponey, and MF were all in the state of Connecticut at the same time. Somebody had to know something! ;)

BTW, i was doing a quick bio on emmert and had forgotten about the mess at UC labeled Uconn 2000... lots of mishandling/mismanagement of money that, according to a hand-written note (emmert's) in 1998 (hmmmmm) suggested emmert knew about it and apparently did nadda (well, not exactly true.. he blew town one year later). My head is spinning at the timing part of it. anyway, when the state finally got around to doing an investigation (2005), the governor declared it an... "astonishing failure of oversight and management."

apparently none of it touched emmert who had long skedaddled to lsu and would later become become grand poohbah of the ncaa. from what i've read, emmert was not exactly loved by husky folks... with many referring to him as a rat bastard and weasel.

well damn... somebody did know something then...

edit: as i re-read this i wound up wondering if it goes something like this (pure conjecture on my part): emmert DID know something in 1998. And because HE knew and did nothing and skated free as a bird, he presumed (presumes?) Joe also HAD to know (about 1998 and thereafter) and has to be punished. I believe there is some psychobabble terminology for that (transference or guilt complex or something similar).. but the timing really is hard to ignore.

Anyway, sorry for rabble rousing a week before the season gets underway.. rainy down here and i'm feeling lazy and avoiding the gym for the moment...

Also true, but in general, I think they likely look at the composite rankings instead of just one site. When they're ranked on multiple sites, they'll undoubtedly like the one that ranks them highest the most.

And I agree with that.
