They were most definitely too harsh
Not only too harsh but ridiculous . Not sure if it’s true but even participating in basketball brackets was forbidden

But rules are rules and there needs to be consequences . Not saying year long suspensions is warranted but the punishment still needs to be more than a slap on the wrist .

I just read up on the supposed 3 strikes proposal and can’t for the life of me see how they went from a to b.

Oh well just passing time now until November 12th

Good point.

In either direction?
So a wrestler can opt INTO an ORS after wrestling half a season?

I don’t think you can compete in a single match wrestling for your college .

No clue if that is true for freshman that haven’t hit the 5 number yet

And I’d have to assume unattached matches are okay cause well you’re not representing your school . Kind of like your just flipping a a redshirt to an Olympic redshirt

No they are what the rules said, wrestlers knew this and all figured they wouldn't get caught. Now its bo ho to harsh punishment, wouldn’t care if it was carter or brooks, they are told every yr and it is a fact.
Come on now. You can’t expect the son and nephew of coaches to follow the rules after 6 years in college. He didn’t get the memo. Dog ate his homework. Following the rules is way too harsh.

Vinnie was closer to Mesenbrink in this analogy as a frosh who was still an unknown on the biggest stage. Besides, his odds were lowered at the time of the match by the fact that he had already lost to IMar twice that season.
I see your point to a degree but chenzos was a freshman who had yet to perform on the biggest stage? My point wasn't really about the odds per say as opposed to the idea that a freshman can take out a multi champion in any match if they are prepared enough and have the balls to pull a big move.

So if they bet on their own college the penalties still apply right? Didn't brands vet on Iowa?

So if they bet on their own college the penalties still apply right? Didn't brands vet on Iowa?

The proposal requires you to bet on your own team. Quote from hawk central

Here is the proposed sequence of punishment, per the NCAA's release:

  • On a first offense, eliminate penalties that result in student-athletes being withheld from competition — regardless of the dollar value of the wagers and including bets placed on other sports at a student-athlete's school — and require education on sports wagering rules and prevention.
  • On a second offense, potentially involve withholding penalties, depending on the dollar value of the bet(s) in question.
  • On a third or subsequent offense, resulting penalty could be a loss of one full season of eligibility.

Ask Rick Neuheisel if you should be in basketball brackets when involved in college athletics.

Ask him what he thinks now or what he thought way back when ? Has it changed ?

What is your opinion ?

I’ll stand by my statement regardless there is nothing wrong with participating in college basketball brackets or fantasy football etc…

Is that what they were doing? I agree brackets are no problem. Fantasy professional sports are no problem but anything that might give you an advantage or put you in a precarious position should not be ok.

My point was that although harsh, the initial penalties were nothing near what RN had to accept. They knew the rules (or should have) and the penalties and recklessly put themselves in the situation they faced.

I think we mostly agree .

I’d have to go back and read what I wrote but what I was trying to say was the rules before they decided they may change them were ridiculously too harsh.

As for missing the entire year because the athletes knew the rules I see both sides of the argument. I’m a strong proponent of there needs to be consequences and can’t fault the ncaa if they were to follow thru with the suspensions. I could also see a more lenient ncaa that made a statement along the lines of the rules being antiquated, come up with a harsh penalty that didn’t include a full year suspension . What that would look like I don’t know .

Anyway I’ll stop rambling 🤣

As for RN I don’t remember, not sure i ever knew the punishment other than losing his job.

didn’t he eventually win a lawsuit against the ncaa for millions.

I believe it was against UW.

“Good test. I give them kudos,” said head coach Tom Brands. “I give Pendleton kudos. He is a professional. He is no slouch. He is a worthy opponent. He comes from a place where he isn’t going to roll over and let you tickle his belly. I have known him as a competitor for a long time. I knew that we had to be ready coming in here.”

I wanted to put in a sarcastic gif here but as a PSA to everyone, do NOT Google "tickling bellies" gifs. I can't unsee some of the search results.

Ironbird's layest diatribe included this gem:

"So if the great Kralure wasn't footing the bills, I am guessing mom and dad might be a little concerned about 6 years or more of college."

Is he deliberately being obtuse, or is this dumb?

In the last 3 years, the Hawks have had 12 wrestlers compete in year 6 or beyond. Brands and Cass would have made it 14 ... only Michigan comes close.

Did you read Vodkas arguments regarding Keuter being allowed to wrestle during football season? Approaching Ironbird level stupid and obtuse.

Meh, it's the same old shtick over and over again from him. His rants used to be entertaining but he jumped the shark a while ago.

In my mind the "best" part is the belief that if they have a new facility and pay recruits more, then they'll win championships. I may have missed it, but I've never seen a recruit say, "I'm going to XYZ school because they have a great weight room and a dedicated TV to watch film."

Look at Carter for instance- here's a guy who is a 3-timer, and he's in the room with Taylor, Dake and Nolf. And he's jumping levels. That's what the recruits want, and that's what Iowa is missing.

“The Great Kralure” is still the funniest thing ever from that mope. Does he think he has a chance at hurting Cael’s feelings if he reads that? It’s flipping hysterical in both meanings of the word. I keep picturing Cael in a tux, top hat and maybe a monocle pulling top 10 p4p recruits out of his hat.

Corby is to the "acceptance" phase. Basically said just watch and enjoy I guess, nothing we can do about PSU, just like Gable's Iowa days. He was big on the "Iowa has a chance if every single thing goes right" bandwagon before.

I don't believe Cael is in any rush for new facilities, Kraft has long-term plans for Olympic ones that will be shared with other sports but obviously wrestling being the key beneficiary of it but overall Lorenzo is still extremely nice and has everything the athletes need overall.

With NIL being a huge thing, it makes way more sense to invest in that and Kraft alluded that is the first thing Cael wanted him to prioritize. You don't want kids to be motivated by money to come here (and they aren't) but after a certain point, it is hard to convince a kid to take nothing at PSU for the chance to be great when they can make legitimate 6 figures elsewhere.

I don't think long bus rides, a touch of the flu, and average officials are going to help Iowa or anyone else.

He’s definitely set himself up for huge second guessing if the Ferrari experiment goes awry (“if” doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence) because he’s all in on AJ

This is from WildTurk and what he thinks of you guys here....

"I've probably been the most consistent Iowa fan that has posted on BWI/HVI in the last 10+ years. @IRONBIRD has been mentioned thousands of times over there throughout the years. No joke! What he says keeps them up at night I assure you. They watch this forum relentlessly like Hawks, constantly looking to drag back what IRONBIRD says. It 100% drives them insane. Many of them use him as a basis for the average Hawkeye fan. We are all guilty by association evidently.

I've been called out many times over the years for not policing/moderating the things he says. As if I could stop him 😆 You're living rent free over there everyday I promise you. All they have to do is ignore your handle, but they just can't look away. You own them"

When you guys defend Turk here, just keep in mind why I will continue to believe hes a c*ck sucking little twit. Btw Turk.... if you want to talk about someone getting in heads, lets talk about how I single handidly make every one of you whine like little pussys every time I decide to grace your board with my presence. Oh...did you forget about that or something? I and many othe PSU fans get in your heads so often your mod over there had to beg you to quit whining to him because you're all thin skinned cry babies. Ill go ahead and copy and paste his plea to you now since I haven't been on your board lately and you've seemed to have forgotten how I turned grown men like you into whiny little bitches.

From MikeZ:

"Guys, I'm about to make a blanket statement that applies to more of you than you think:
Get over yourself.
Grow a pair.
Quit being so thin skinned and wasting my time monitoring these boards.
I have realized that the Iowa wrestling community, of late, has a group of folks who just can't accept constructive criticism. Fans from other sites come here to have meaningful conversation with a group of knowledgeable wrestling fans. As soon as one of them says ANYTHING that is construed as derogatory, they are reported as "Trolls" or "Unnecessary" or "Ban this fool". Really?
As I read the posts, many of the reports we get actually are against posters that are saying factual things. Yes, their program (PSU) is on top of the wrestling world. Iowa used to be. And as I recall, Iowa fans used to spew their superiority just like we are seeing from some of the others that come here. But, that isn't a reason to edit posts or ban posters.
The Mark Perry thread is a really, really good example. I have had multiple (10) requests in that thread to ban a specific poster and edit content. I did edit the content. The others were rejected.
The facts are the facts. If you can't identify those, accept those, and live with it until Iowa becomes a National Champion again, and they will, then you had better be prepared to handle a little backhanded (or in your face) comment or two now and then. It comes with the territory.
The monitors will continue to aggressively respond to your requests. We will take any action necessary that violates board policy and rules. But we aren't going to just willy nilly do things at the request of someone who's feelings have been hurt over a comment that is the opinion of another that doesn't appear to be out of line at all.
Now, boys from other sites, if you can play within the rules, you are fine to continue posting here. If you can't, then you will be dealt with individually.
Anyone who has a problem with this, you can PM me or Tom and we will gladly address it with you individually."

You have a Happy Thanksgiving now Turk!

JSS - your points are spot on and well-taken by this poster; agree 100%. HOWEVER, on this day of thanks, let's thank Turk for his service.
I hope you, and all the board, have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Say what you want on his takes some are pretty incredible.. But he is never the Henny Penny... And he is the eternal optimist.

What I said was true. You guys obsess over what IRONBIRD says. He is in your heads.

What are you calling me a cock sucking little twit for? Would you say that to my face if we were alone together? I bet you talked to your son like that aswell.

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your family time!
Yes...I'd say it right to your face you c*nt.

And for those that may not be aware, Turk just mentioned my son who committed suicide almost 5 years ago. I'll let you all decide what Turk was trying to do to me by saying that..

@WildTurk I implore you to delete that NOW. Worst I've ever seen on this board.
Naw...its all good. He's done it before. I make no bones about it, I dont like the guy and he doesn't like me. In my book, everything can be fair game between the two of us...I'm cool with it. In the future tho, people who like to defend him need to keep in mind theres a reason I argue with Turk and just let me be..
