Isn't Carr suspended? If not, what happened?
I'm guessing you're thinking of Paniro Johnson, though I don't think I've seen it reported what happened with him--but he was facing criminal charges, so it didn't look good. Carr's name has never come up in relation to the gambling probe, AFAIK.

Yes, that is correct. Thanks

Second semester.

He’s currently in Orlando at the WWE Next training facility and Worlds was taking him away too much with training camps and travel.

But they have a training facility in Minneapolis, so it’s a bit more feasible to travel to duals and NCAAs
But he left his shoes on the mat...

I know he's a great wrestler and all but we already had the Gable farewell tour.

Call me old fashioned but I think the big question of who man's 165 this season comes down to a combination of (in order of precidence):

1). Do any of the three (AF, MM, LH) have a desire to Oly redshirt or otherwise this year?
2). What is their mutual walking around weights and best natural wrestling weight?
3). Who's actually better?

Maybe I am naive, but I don't think the decision has been made, and it might ultimately come down to a wrestleoff.

If we take the crumbs that have been scattered in our path by the kids themselves, rumors from last season, and Ben Askren, I might go out on a limb to state MM goes 157, and Levi and Alex jockey for 165.

Strategically if we skip 23/24, it seems a no brainer that Alex moves up to 174 in 24/25 assuming Carter does not seek a 5th.

Granted we don't need anyone at 165 to win nationals this year, the who's best question might be a secondary consideration.

My Crystal ball, recently polished says 157 = MM, 165 = LH, ORS = AF.

I might be the only one calling out this particular permutation. Granted that same crystal ball picked the Steelers over Houston Sunday.

The thing with ORS is that they need to be decided soon, anyone know the date for sure?
That may sort things out before the season ever starts.

PSU will have a lot of interesting dual combinations through December because of qualifying tournaments. Agree, won’t know until after the first of the year who’s in or who’s out. Total bouts will be low going into the March tournament as kids make room for more of these tournaments. Should be a very fun year.

Can someone clarify for me the restriction on the 5 match rule regarding not burning redshirts?Does it:

1). Apply to incoming freshmen only
2). The 5 matches can only occur in the first semester

Net-net, we will know who is taking an "Oly" between Levi, Mesenbrink, and Facundo, the very first time we take the mat as a team, since none are true freshmen.

Whomever man's 157 and 165 in that first match or tourney will be the two guys, correct?

Don’t take this as gospel but

1. Yes freshman only
2. Competition dates not matches
3 Levi Haines 5th competition date was January 20th so wouldn’t that be second semester .

Let's get this thread back on track. Brand new from Ironbird!!
LOL, you need to re-read what you wrote! IF, for a "star" QB, the goal is to be an NFL QB. Signing at a school that produces them certainly makes sense, BUT at some point. The people in the NFL are going to want to see results! Sitting on the bench, will not get you them!!!!

Wrestling, does not have an NFL to shoot for. Winning championships, getting to the next level would seem to be the goal of ever top tier kid I have ever talked to or heard about. I would even make a bet on your comment that a TOP kid, goes to F*** st, to be coached by the great Kraleure???

It is, and has been, very obviously, fat $$$$ mans slush fund and a compliance dept wiling to look the other way. The $660K in "camp expenses" that was well documented, tells you this! Very nice if a kid can make a years tuition over the summer working at wrestling camps!

Now the matter of having top kids ride the pine, was another of the great Failures achievements! Grey shirts, deferred enrollment etc...I guess he saw what Ivy schools did and just added it in at F*** state. Just a round number, but say 5 years of F*** st cost 250K. Normal for many wrestlers.

Now obviously 6-7 years adds 50-100K, NOT chump change!!! BUT if someone else is paying, well then it becomes a non-issue. Plus if you are not losing eligibility, well you could always transfer, which has happened several times now and will many more times just watch!

You can also look at the , "recruiting over" 2 top kids at the hardest weights to recruit Heavy and 197 with Beard and Nevilus. A REMARKABLE feat that has NEVER been done before in the HISTORY of the sport! Was nice to see the KerKIN and ButterDean put on the magic Fraleure weight so quickly too!

Have to say reading the turd, vodka and grippo’s posts is a hoot. Good medicine for anyone needing a laugh. But we should be thankful, they are great recruiting tools for PSU. Any kid or parent reading HR and their posts must say to themselves, thats not a culture i want to associate myself with.

True freshman can only wrestle attached in the first semester, can wrestle unattached in the 2nd semester

Well, maybe not the Ferrais or Downeys.

There are idiot's in every village. Especially if you search them out

Yeah. So I guess my real question is when will the Levi vs Mitch vs Alex question be settled?

Since none are true freshman, and assuming The Journeymen, Black Night, All star events are 'attached' events the team needs to decide right out of the gate. No waiting until duals in December for the decision to be determined?

Can our kids attend these events unattached? If so, could we see Baraclough and Lee in the tourneys attached?

A bit of a bummer from my pov, I was hoping to see an early season body of work from all three of them, not to mention the associated mystery.

You're worried, aren't you. It's okay to admit it.

It's not a given that Mesenbrink starts at 165, but if Facundo is the 165 starter, his odds are definitely zero against Carr or Keegan. Mesenbrink is a wild card because he doesn't have a record yet and is seemingly still on a steep learning curve. Again, I don't really see anyone beating out Carr or KOT, but I used Mesenbrink in the example because I think his odds are at least non-zero given the unknown. Assuming Facundo is the 165 kills the plan from the outset.
What was chenzos odds for beating Martinez does anyone remember. I should have bet on that match

Vinnie was closer to Mesenbrink in this analogy as a frosh who was still an unknown on the biggest stage. Besides, his odds were lowered at the time of the match by the fact that he had already lost to IMar twice that season.

FWIW, I don’t think he likes being called Vinnie.

I’ll call my shot: Mitch will win more than 2 natties for us. As Cenzo would have, if only…

looks like the NCAA is changing the rules for iowa and Iowa State can you say payoff??
This change is good. The penalties were way too harsh. I think the NCAA finally realizes that continuing down that path would lead to suspending like half of all the D1 football players, but also biased based on whichever states take an interest in pursuing it legally.

Not if you ignore them. They have been duping you all for years. That's what brings them back everyday

It blows my mind, especially in IronBird's case, that the good one's on the board don't call them out. I mean IronBird gets encouraged by many on there with their likes and posts of encouragement.

Im talking about a wrestler declaring he wants to use his ORS. There isnt a deadline for this?
That does not matter at all. A wrestler can declare and then later burn it -- see Kolodzik. Or never declare and keep it because he didn't wrestle. Only thing that matters is if/when he steps on the mat.

I know one can “burn“ it and am fully aware that Kolo did just that. I simply wanted to know if there was a DEADLINE TOO DECLARE, and if so, then it might clarify who or who doesnt take 157/165.

I know in the past there have been lists of guys who have declared they will be using ORS.

Naw. NCAA is running scared because Iowa DCI is going to get killed in court for how they handled this. They want no part of another civil they would (likely) lose.

IDK, maybe there is, maybe not. Having one doesn't make sense, why bother with a deadline if they can change their minds in either direction later?

Good point.

In either direction?
So a wrestler can opt INTO an ORS after wrestling half a season?
