AS THE BIRD TURNS (IOWA STUFF)

What’s the name of that PSU sports psychologist? I think they need it over there.

If you give it to me I’ll mention how I read an article in muscle and fitness about Charles Garfield and link the book from Amazon.

I mean peak performance helped me miss a much larger lift by a little. Probably a good 50-60 lbs more I didn’t get Lolol.

I think the PSU staff is doing fairly well, so replacing them at this time seems a little silly. I can see a pattern here though of Cael producing less than five champions each year, and despite winning the team title going away, you guys becoming restless and calling for his head. It is only a matter of time before the fan base decides to no longer tolerate losses at any of the 10 weights.
That's pretty funny actually! 🤣

My brother in law is a big football fan ( navy grad so he’s navy, Texas, psu, lay).

He said Bama fans are great until they lose, then they get salty. I’m betting a few poor years would get psu fans nutty.
With NIL and the portal Penn State won't have any "holes" now. The years of having only 8 scoring wrestlers are gone. ;) God provided you with that becaue you deserve it!

Bless you , I give you this gift of song to share the lord’s grace!

I ducked but lightning didn’t strike me after I typed that.

It's fun to flex our muscles, and no doubt Cael has built something near impossible to duplicate. That said Iowa isn't going anywhere and will remain a top 5 program in perpetuity. They have crazy coaches, yes, but a new facility is on the way and they have a rich heritage, no doubt local talent for decades to come, and deep NIL pockets willing to spend. With a Michigan like off season, they could be challenging again in 2 years. Not likely, but certainly possible.
Yeah most everything I state here is sarcasm. it's the lowest form of comedy, but I've got to start somewhere.

I actually wish there was more competitive balance. I think that is better for the sport.

Yep, we are definitely spoiled JW.

Bonnie Epstein? In regards to her, just listened to a podcast with Mesenbrink as their guest. Mitch absolutely loves her.

Coincidentally so is OKST. 90, 95, 100, 105, 110 ...
Takes me awhile to realize sarcasm when I see it. This whole thread now has me so confused.

Just a quick mention but isn’t David Taylor thinking MMA after the Olympics. That would keep him busy awhile . I for one hope he doesn’t go down that path but to each their own.

As for the adding weights I have always wanted to see another heavy weight something like 197, 225 , heavy weight

You have to be really careful with that chickenman guy, he exudes sarcasm (and nail bombs) out of his pores.

We have this discussion every year just like when the schedule gets released, parking issues, etc.

Everybody wants something in the 220 range, except 195-215/220-285 is by far the weakest HS talent range. Then take out the college football players and other college athletes, and what's left is often the worst 2 college weights. Not sure diluting 2 not-great weights to add a flotsam weight will help the sport.

It would make much more sense to align college weights closer to freestyle weights (say, move 197 up to 205 or 210).

Also not getting an 11th weight due to Title IX, so something would have to give elsewhere in the lineup.

I dont recall hearing or reading that about DT. He seems pretty well set up without going and taking knees to the head for a living.

Glad I could kick it off for this years discussion .

I refuse to get political but will say female sports and title 9 seem to be getting challenged on other fronts .

If I were to vote I’d vote for an added weight but I certainly see and respect the opinions in changing towards free style . Arguments to be made on both sides .

when I grew up most kids that could play football played now many kids seem to skip it or get discouraged from the sport from there parents . There is certainly a belief football players risk more to their bodies than do wrestlers . From my experience many of those kids are going to lacrosse and soccer.

Than with the advent of NIL it seems there would be more options or reasons to get involved with wrestling than being say an offensive lineman .

As with any major change though you’re never quite prepared for the unexpected consequences.

You lost me though on the parking issues comment at the beginning of your response

Taylor has said it himself . Unless the podcast I watched was faked.

This is the quote

“Winning a second Olympic gold medal in Paris in 2024 is top priority. But if I want to pursue being the best combat athlete of all time, stepping in the octagon is something that would have to happen. Is that going to happen? I don’t know yet, but I’m definitely considering it more than I’ve ever considered it before.”

And let me reiterate I hope this isn’t the path he chooses.

Hang around and you'll notice certain topics get new threads every year to the point where they're cliches, and we joke about them being cliches.

One of them is: "when is the schedule coming out?" Another is: timing of season tickets (the applications, the tickets themselves arriving, whatever). Another is griping about Rec Hall parking.

Adding 220 isn't quite at that cliche level ... yet.

Or just add a women's wrestling team.
Amen!

Though a LOT of schools would have to do that for NCAA to allow more men's weights. And that would require a lot of money, which probably doesn't exist given how many men's teams have been cut in the past 10 years or so.

He doesn't appear to have "that" mentality. It's hard to imagine DT hitting somebody in the face

I'm skeptical that it will happen at this point, at least seriously. (Maybe he'll dip his toe in the cage.) Taylor is 32, turning 33 in December, so he's already on the older side for professional athletes not named Nolan Ryan.

He'd need to dedicate to MMA disciplines for a couple years before getting high-end fights that would affect such a discussion. By then, will he still have an athletic advantage over guys with more MMA experience?

Snyder has also mentioned MMA in the past. I also doubt he does it, though it's more likely -- he's only 27, and if he (eventually) becomes consistently 3rd behind Sadulaev and Tuzhudinov, then will being the best in USA still be enough?
