On this beautiful eve of the B1G Tourney I gotta say THANK HEAVEN WE MADE IT! I feared this day wouldn't arrive this year. Don't know about you, but I’m a mix of excitement and nerves tonight.

That got me wondering how confident my BWI mates are feeling about the prospects for individual PSU wrestlers to reach the finals this weekend. While this admittedly is a very small sample size, here’s what the current snapshot of KYPSW predictions indicates some of us are thinking about PSU’s prospects:

Majority of Placement Votes
Howard: 7th
RBY: 1st (consensus)
Lee: 1st
Bartlett: 5th
Berge: 4th
Lee: 4th/5th
Starocci: 1st/2nd
Brooks: 1st (consensus)
Beard: 5th
Kerkvliet: 2nd/3rd

How would you rank order the likelihood that our guys make it to the B1G finals? Here’s my ranking (most to least likely):

1. Brooks
2. RBY
3. Nick Lee
4. Kerkvliet
5. Starocci
6. Berge
7. Beard
8. Joe Lee
9. Bartlett
10. Howard

If this is only about reaching finals, then the path is as important as past results. Small sample size, but enough to draw semi-educated conclusions.

10. Robbie would seem the least likely. Just started practicing recently and Heinselman pretty much controlled the ties a few weeks ago ... hard to see him getting past round 2 in the championship bracket.
9. Beard hits #2 Amine in the quarters. Amine pretty much controlled their 1st meeting.
8. Berge sees Deakin in the semis. Berge preinjury might be the favorite, still waiting to see that guy post injury.
7. I like Joe Lee's path. Opposite side from Marinelli is wide open, but Joe has been so inconsistent it's hard to pick him through to the finals.
6. 149 is another weight where the opposite side of #1 is wide open. I'm tempted to think Beau is a favorite to reach the finals, but haven't seen enough of him at 149 to predict he can beat Murin.
5 & 4. Starocci has to get through Romero and #2 Labriola. Kerk has to get through #2 Mason. Both have shown they have what it takes, but ...
3, 2 & 1. RBY, Nick Lee and Brooks are favorites to reach the finals for a reason.

On Sunday I suspect we will have at least 4, maybe 6, finalists. I'm not ready to name names, I'm basing this simply on Cael's/PSU's history at tourney time.

Beau Bartlett should be much higher than #9 on that list of “likely to the finals”

Beau has a distinct path that others like Beard, Joe Lee and even Berge & Kerk don’t have.

It’s less the actual seed, and more the actual bracket half.

I agree. I would have Bartlett at 6. And good to have you back digger, I haven't seen you here much in a while.

Capt. Kerk is going to surprise some people. He's more polished on his feet and will win the scrambles. I also think his strength will be enough to get him off bottom. It'll be the most high-action HWT match we've seen all year by far.

10 Champs. Maximum bonus points earned.
