Bartlett at Powerade

I help out a friend of mine on weekends when he gets behind at his small business. This morning when I get there He tells me he has another gentleman coming in to help as well. Said he was from the Philly area. Anyway, after he arrived we got to talking and I told him I'm a big wrestling fan. He starts telling me about his cousins son Ryan and how he travels all over the country to compete. I said wait a minute, is his last name Crookham? The look on his face was priceless. He actually looked shocked that I knew who he was. Said how does someone from Johnstown know about a kid from that area? Lol. I seriously got the vibe that he doesnt really understand how good his cousins son really is or how wrestling fans follow highschool kids like we do.

We talked a few hours about wrestling,PSU and got some history about his family. Highly enjoyed it. Was nice to hear him say he' be surprised if Ryan didnt end up at PSU if they wanted him.

We are everywhere

Meanwhile, you didn't get anything done to help your friend. ;)

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think Bartlett should go at 141 and Nick Lee moves up to 149. 149 is a weak spot at the moment and this solves it. I think next year the strongest lineup goes
125-Robbie Howard
133-RBY
141-Bartlett
149-Nick Lee
157-Berge
165-Joe Lee
174-Starocci
184-AB
197-Beard
Hey-Kerkvliet

Extremely young but super talented lineup. Also, in regards to your question I believe that Bartlett is as prepared to go as a true freshman as pretty much anyone that I’ve seen. Seems filled out physically and his wrestling is so fundamentally sound I think he will excel right away.

That lineup looks insanely talented. Iowa with Eierman will be very tough next year but the sky is the limit with that lineup of young STUDS. The future is BRIGHT!!!

Bartlett should not start 149 next year except in case of emergency.

First, starting a true freshman up a weight is far from optimal.

Second, everyone is projecting him to 141 or 133/141, so 149 is likely not his best weight short or long term.

Third, either he cuts back to 141 the following year -- or everyone else has to go up a weight whether they're ready or not AND we start a true freshman at 125, essentially weakening 4 weights.

Fourth, with Cael going after Van Ness and (likely) Crookham, Bartlett probably needs to be at 141 anyway.

So, is it better for the team for N Lee to go up to 149?

The question becomes: (Bartlett + Nick) > (Nick + Verk/Gardner/Pipher)?

That's very unclear right now, and frankly I don't think we'll know much until nationals -- and that includes the field at both weights. We know Yianni and /Eierman return at 141, and Kolodzik at 149. Abas will join the 149 field too.

Need to make that decision in the offseason -- don't want Nick holding 141 and then bumping up midyear to get outmuscled at 149. If in doubt, Bartlett shirts to develop.

If that's the question, I understand waiting till offseason to decide, but put me in the Bartlett+Nick duo as being superior, and it might not be all that close.
PS-I thought Yianni was gonna return at 149?

Iowa has some soul searching to do. Pull the shirt off of Eireman and this year is probably out of reach for everyone else but it leaves that tiny crack the PSU youngsters need to perhaps win it next year. Leave Eireman in shirt and risk a late injury to a guy like Lee,DeSanto,Bull, or Cass. and PSU can bull rush a title this year. The pressure is on for Brands to win this year and next. Falling short either year would devastate the fans over there. PSU has 2022/2023/2024 looking far stronger than anyone else imo. Much can change between injuries and transfers, but Cael has to like what he saw at the Scuffle as a whole when combined with Brooks and Kerk.

If its God's plan (@jammenz ) that psu pulls off the improbable this year, we need to punt next year.

It's the only humane thing to for our friends in the mid west.

How about if God's plan is that PSU pulls off the improbable this year, and the new young guns, Howard, RBY, Lee, CStarr, AB, Beard, and Kerk shock the world in St. Louis?
As a post script, Iowa is so disheartened that they abandon men's wrestling in favor of a women's team.

I love the idea of Nick and Yianni, whether it be at 141 or 149, I like Nicks chances.

Personally, I hope Nick solves our 149 “questions” next year

Manville will make J Lee earn 165
