Does that give a hint about who is the 197 starter for Penn State at this point?
Beard needs tourney time, NothingMeaningful here.Does that give a hint about who is the 197 starter for Penn State at this point?
Anybody else going?
why would it??Does that give a hint about who is the 197 starter for Penn State at this point?
True, but OTOH we all know what Beard's biggest weakness last year was, and wrestling in 2 duals doesn't test that situation.Rarely see starters go to opens like that.
"You know Michael is a great kid who works hard and we're so lucky to have him in the program" -my guess at what Cael's answer would be to the questionTrue, but OTOH we all know what Beard's biggest weakness last year was, and wrestling in 2 duals doesn't test that situation.
If Beard were to wrestle 2 duals in one day and then an open the next, that would be a good test. Though that's probably not what happens here.
In any case, this would be a good question for a reporter to ask. Not that he'd get an answer.
And we all know that if he solves it Saturday night is the outcome."You know Michael is a great kid who works hard and we're so lucky to have him in the program" -my guess at what Cael's answer would be to the question

I am ignorant of the truth, but had suspected this possibility. @Sportfan2017 wondered similarly in another thread a couple of weeks ago.So I don’t think this has been discussed before on the board, but one of the issues Beard had with gassing is that he would apparently hold his breath for periods of time in matches (I swear I’m not bullsh*tting here) and one of the things they were working on in the room was getting him to breathe. Sort of like a boxer who holds his breath when punching and they teach them to exaggerate their breaths.
A former D1 guy who’s not part of the program but occasionally works out with the team (you guys can do the sleuthing on that one if you want) said it was a really big point of emphasis last year and that he’d made some big strides.I am ignorant of the truth, but had suspected this possibility. @Sportfan2017 wondered similarly in another thread a couple of weeks ago.
In Tang So Do (or Karate), that's what all the yelling is about. It's called a Ki Yup. I'd love to see somebody carry it over into wrestling just for comedic effect, but even without the yelling there is carry over into other sports. You do it thousands of times in training and you get used to breathing during exertion. So I don’t think this has been discussed before on the board, but one of the issues Beard had with gassing is that he would apparently hold his breath for periods of time in matches (I swear I’m not bullsh*tting here) and one of the things they were working on in the room was getting him to breathe. My brother was big into Tang So Do.....even taught it. Much to his annoyance I always pronounced it "Tang Soo Dew" so it could be the answer/punch line to....."What do you look for when you are tracking a Tang Soo?". Then he became a black belt and I decided to find a different joke Breathing properly really is a trained skill. In Tang So Do (or Karate), that's what all the yelling is about. It's called a Ki Yup. It works well for other types of exertion as well.

yes we will se at the end of the season but both would do well and plenty of good guys dont start till after the new year!Rarely see starters go to opens like that.
I've seen it used in equestrian; it's called the Gid Ki Yup.In Tang So Do (or Karate), that's what all the yelling is about. It's called a Ki Yup. I'm angling for a season 6 villain role in Cobra KaiNice try, we all know karate is Miyagi-Do.
Other disciplines teach this, but none in my awareness is quite like Yoga, in that the breath is the foundation of all movement and exertion. I'm just guessing, but it wouldn't surprise me if Michael's been doing some downward dogs, etc in recent months.A former D1 guy who’s not part of the program but occasionally works out with the team (you guys can do the sleuthing on that one if you want) said it was a really big point of emphasis last year and that he’d made some big strides.
Can? Yes of course. He still has remaining college eligibility, and 2 HS wrestlers (Feldman Crookham) just competed at Clarion. Can Hildebrand wrestle unrosterd at open tournaments?
Freestyle swimming teaches to breathe on every second stroke -- because it's kinda hard to breathe face down in the water. I've picked it up recently myself, and I typically do every third (alternating sides). I have to tell you though--adjusting to that for me was made much easier with some of the yoga training I've had previously.Freestyle swimming teaches to breathe on every second stroke -- because it's kinda hard to breathe face down in the water. Mentioning because Beard's brother swam freestyle for PSU.
That explains this photo I took of Beard from practice the other day.… Yoga, in that the breath is the foundation of all movement and exertion. I'm just guessing, but it wouldn't surprise me if Michael's been doing some downward dogs, etc in recent months.
As a swimmer/triathlete for about thirty years, one thing is certain: you cannot get too much air. Very few elite swimmers alternate sides any more. Just like these wrestlers, I guess, some swimmers need to learn to breathe more often. Example: a runner might take about 40 breaths per minute; an adult swimmer doing alternate breathing might get around 21 breaths per minute; I get around 33 breaths per minute breathing every stroke cycle.I've picked it up recently myself, and I typically do every third (alternating sides). Yeah, I noticed most elite types don’t do it: It’s what I find more comfortable. I’m trying to develop to the point of doing some open water. so have been working on spotting in front sometimes too.As a swimmer/triathlete for about thirty years, one thing is certain: you cannot get too much air. i proposed a while back that it was probably an issue like this and not that he was out of shape or needed more cardio. i remember cory clark had gassing issues at 125 his freshman year and terry would periodically just scream "BREATHE" throughout his matches. So I don’t think this has been discussed before on the board, but one of the issues Beard had with gassing is that he would apparently hold his breath for periods of time in matches (I swear I’m not bullsh*tting here) and one of the things they were working on in the room was getting him to breathe.
