Beard

NN came in against Lehigh, remember being there.
You beat me to the draw. I had to go to the wrestling club site:

Nick Nevills 1st match in 2012 was February, 12. A 5-4 loss to Wessel from Lehigh.

Agreed here, as well: it would kinda suck for Beard to burn an eligibility year but only wrestle 8-10 bouts in the postseason. As you also note, it could also be very cool, if he ran some tables, earned a title, and helped the team win a tight team race.

Cael's history of late-February / pre-B1Gs lineup changes don't really have an example of this biz case of pulling a shirt. Hall's came off in Carver in a Jan dual. Nick Lee's came off right after a great Scuffle showing, in which Jered Cortez also got re-injured. Brooks' this year, in December. Nico started his TRFR season in the beginning, same with Zain. Most of the other elite studs got luxurious full-season Redshirts.

The most memorable non-RS-related late-season juggling was at 149. In 2014, Cael famously chose All-American James English over Zach Beitz & Luke Frey to replace the injured Andrew Alton. In 2015, he went with Frey to do the same.

One slight difference with Beard ... he did have the benefit of a full luxurious grayshirt season, so he might be raring to go.

That was his redshirt freshman year though, right? I recall him coming off an injury. Didn't he arrive on campus the same semester as Nolf and Nickal--and all 3 redshirted?

I think taking a grey shirt year adds to wanting to go now. He has two full seasons under his belt. Part of me really doesn't want to see beard go because then we have him four more years. Another part of me wants Shak to do well he has been a lot of time and effort into this team. I think it's getting to a point where he can't go on his knee which sucks but I don't want to see him go out like that either

I agree Four... I would love for Shak to have this season and finish it (health permitting). If he is cleared to go, cannot aggravate the injury, then I would love to see him have that chance. I would rather the team ride Shak, regardless of the points involved. But, on the scope of things, my opinion doesn't count much...

Yes -- he shirted his true freshman year. Would've shirted anyway but was injured at the Scuffle and did not return for 13 months.

I'm waffling a bit but, when NN was turned loose, nobody could've imagined he'd lose his spot to the eventual champ in a couple years. Strike while the iron is hot I suppose. Next couple weeks are gonna be interesting.
