Bernstein's response to JoePa's halo: "Happy Valley is a magical place..."

I personally know the person who painted the mural and the halo. Suffice it to say, you're all wet.
In fact, my father and my 2 sons are on the mural in one of the window portraits on the wall.
I don't know if you ever mentioned that before Howie. Obviously the mural has special meaning to you.

Yep. On the very far left, there's a painting of a man with 2 boys. That's my father and his grandsons, i.e. my sons. When they were little, lots of times my father would take the boys from Beaver Stadium at halftime to the Deli and watch the 2nd half there. Michael Pilato was often there and they developed a friendship. That's why he painted them in.

Wow. That is super cool.

That's not the point. The Sandusky stuff could never have happened and on top of that JVP could have spent all his spare time feeding starving kids in the developing world and people would still make fun about a halo over his head and that's because putting a halo over a persons head is ridiculous.

I would pay to have a "halo put over your head".

"And your little dog (MichNittWitt), too!"

The real source of he problem in this is whoever painted the halo. They're virtually begging people to make fun of PSU fans when they do that. In fact, it wouldn't shock me if whoever painted the halo was someone doing it to purposely make PSU fans look bad.

?

Pray for @Dan_Bernstein's soul. It sure seems to have worked with @DesmondHoward, who's mysteriously shut his pie-hole.

For the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would pay any attention or re-post anything this moron has to say, especially on this board. You would have a better chance of winning the powerball than trying to have a reasoned discussion with this jerk.

Assume the BoT had suspended Paterno, like they did with Curley. The public's perception would still be the same. Once the investigator raised the issue of "moral" inaction at the initial press conference, coupled with Joe's "wish I had done more" statement, and the Freeh report, the die was cast. I'm not suggesting the BoT handled it well at all, but I think the public perception would not be significantly different had Paterno simply been suspended. The media made it a Paterno issue.

I think public perception would have been a lot different if the BOT had handled things appropriately.
  1. When PSU fired Joe they essentially told the world that Joe was guilty (even before the Freeh report). That gave the media license to pile on.
  2. The BOT could have insisted that Freeh's report be limited to the facts (interviews, e-mails, etc) and not opinions. They could have insisted that the report say there is concern about the possible involvement of certain PSU officials but that those officials were not interviewed and any final determination on their guilt or innocence will be determined in a court of law.
There would have still been a lot of grumbling and some people would have drawn their own conclusions anyway. But others would have been more patient and allowed for due process. There's no doubt in my mind that the BOT threw fuel onto the fire and that made public opinion much worse than it had to be.

Remember the cheating scandal at ND a couple of years ago? They came out an announced that they had no tolerance for such things and that players were going to be suspended pending a thorough investigation. They didn't rush to throw anybody under the bus. Months later it was announced that certain players (ie. Ishaq Williams) would not be returning to the team. By then the story had died down and things happened quietly. Too bad we don't have ND's BOT. Spanier tried. He said that he was horrified by the Sandusky news but that he had confidence that C&S would be found innocent. The BOT stepped in and threw everybody under the bus. Fuel on the fire while it was hot. A total lack of fiduciary responsibility IMO. And here we are, our reputation ruined and $200 million poorer.

There is some truth to this opinion. Not sure I'd call it ridiculous. The muralist clearly means well. But I agree the halos are too much. I equate them to the shot of the men getting down on one knee and praying outside JVP's house (played on ESPN constantly in the wake of his firing). I hold Penn State and JVP dear to my heart. But the actions of some at times are over the top.

The halos are on every deceased person on that mural to indicate they are no longer with us.
What the heck is wrong with you people?

Yes, and I dislike all the halos. There is nothing wrong with me. The mural as a whole is a fine idea. I simply feel the halos in the manner depicted are out of place. Works of self-expression are always critiqued.

And who on Planet Earth does NOT know that Joe Paterno is dead?

Does this mural really need a "halo" to point that out?

The general public associates "halos" with people who are "saintly or holy." Whether Pilato intended it or not, that is the general message these halos are portraying.

It's Pilato's art and he can indicate who has died however he chooses. You guys are disrespectful of all the dead people on the mural, including Mack Brady.
Shame on you.

Of course Pilato can do as he chooses.

I just fail to see the "upside" to the halos, however.

Fair enough.

The sobriquet "Dick Nose" was tailor-made for Dan Bernstein. Philly's legendary King of the Nose Job Dr. Julius Newman would have needed 2 cracks at his case - imagine scheduling O.R. time for that honker!

I should feel shame and get a life because I dislike part of a mural? C'mon guys. And who said the halos are offensive? Not me.

Pilato lost his only child last year. He has had more than his share of tragedy and grief. The halos seem even more symbolic to him now, than before Skye died.

Wow, you can pick out and identify one guy. Congratulations on your amazing abilities. Now, what about all the rest?

Further proof that PSU fans can't win. People bash the mural because Joe has a halo. What would they say if every dead person in the mural had a halo except Joe? And why so much attention for a guy's painting anyway? Do we have to over analyze everything associated with Penn State?

Okay, so some artist did it on purpose. The point still stands though. It's just begging people to make fun. The fact that the artist doesn't see it that way just shows how out of touch he is.

Putting a halo on anyone, other than in a clearly joking matter, is an invitation to ridicule.

So, we can be rest assured that you will never get a halo.

Got it. o_O
