Big Ben’s final home game?

I know as a Steelers fan I should care about this but I really don't. Maybe it's because he stuck around a year maybe 2 too long or maybe it's because he isn't the "best" person or maybe it's just because it would be better for the Steelers to lose tonight. Either way I'm looking forward to him moving on. He had a HOF career but the ending is just...anticlimactic.

Not a a #7 jersey wearing type guy but good to see Ben looking sharp tonight. 1st ballot HOF'er although no doubt a #tier below the guys after Brady tier- Montana, Unitas, Rodgers etc.

Speaking of jerseys I'm thinking about my son's privelege of having Parsons amd Watt gear and those two being a coin toss for DPOY.

He had a phenomenal career. As a Steelers fan, you are blessed. You could be a Browns fan like me. It has been pretty lean for about 55 years. On the other hand, we have Baker.

I know Ben had his transgressions early in his career, but hasn’t he mellowed out over the years? All of the character issues people alluding to are a decade old at least, right? I have come to like the older, wiser Ben more so than the wild party animal he was when drafted.

I agree. The Steelers have been very fortunate with having Big Ben for nearly 2 decades.

All I wanted for the 2018 NFL draft was for the Browns to take Baker and not Saquon. I'm glad it worked out the way it has as a Steelers fan. Hopefully, for your sake, Cleveland gets rid of Baker after this season.

Hard to take a RB with the 1st pick in the draft. As good as Barkley was. At the time I wanted them to take Allen. Baker is too short as he is again demonstrating tonite. He has as many batted passes as completions.

I would say they are winning in spite of him. He has thrown 41 passes for only 123 yards, which is almost hard to believe.

I was a big fan or Darnold and Allen. Won't lie I probably would have gone with Darnold at 1 because of the level of competition and I prefer pure drop back passers. Allen's definitely the best QB in that class though IMO. Lamar is second.

And, yes, tons of balls batted down tonight.

Again, you are very lucky to have the Steelers organization. The Browns are garbage, have been for most of the last 6 decades. Oh well.

He was also sacked 9 times tonight…..and his receivers seemed to drop everything all night long.

Not a Ben fan…..but two interesting stats from tonight. Only played in two games in eighteen years when the Steelers weren’t in playoff contention…..and…..been sacked (IIRC) 551 times in his career.

I will say the Browns game plan was awful today but even when Baker had time he indecisive and inaccurate. He's just not capable of being an elite or even above average QB.

As I said earlier I didn't care about it being Ben's last game but I'm glad he got the final kneel down and the emotion he showed at the end was nice. Now the Steelers just need to beat Baltimore and get help from Jacksonville lol

If the Steelers played all season with this intensity they would have locked up the playoffs a week or two ago. Especially the D which brought their A game.
Agreed but the Browns played into our strength. I don't understand what they were doing. They needed to pound the ball with Chubb early and often. Baker's 1-10 start (not all his fault) killed them.

So you had to say it twice?

Why even show up??

It's a celebration of a very, very good football career sir.

Thanks for trying but not succeeding in putting a damper on it!

Nice to see Ben go out this way. That last TD by Harris was sweet.
Yeah, props to Ben for a great career and he dominated the Browns over the years.

And major props to the young running back Najee Harris
  • His big game vs the Browns pushed him to 1,172 yards on the season
  • His yards after contact were terrific
  • Despite some difficult games and a below standard O-line, he managed to avg. 4 yds/carry on the year
  • Also a threat as a receiver -- caught 70 passes
  • 296 carries -- 0 fumbles
A little more help from the O-line, and he can become one of the best RBs in the league

Hassenauer and leglue at C and LG were huge improvements on the OL last night. Moore will be ok at OT, green can be the backup interior lineman for now and then they have chuks, banner and dotson. Depending on what's there at pick 16 or so, they can get an OL or a run stuffing NT

Hassenauer has improved -- thought he was awful last year

Leglue is an interesting guy and has size and potential
Undrafted out of Tulane, and spent time with the Broncos, Saints, and Packers before coming to the Steelers; he was mostly on practice squads, so this is his 1st year playing
Got his degree from Tulane in 3 years and has earned an MBA also

Plenty of needs for the Steelers but they are making an identity as having a decent running game

Yeah a really good NT prospect or a stud OL would be great in early rounds, but of course the big need is to figure out QB

Ben was kind of a jack-wad early in his career, and maybe the stuff now is a bit fake, but the way he could throw guys off, extend plays, and make plays downfield was amazing. He was a winner. Never a losing record. This team is not very good and they are still not eliminated. The next few year could be rough if they don't play it well.

That being said...... that is the Najee I thought he was. Just needs a few holes. The Center was a big improvement. You know who else was a big improvement? The punter.

I have been pretty open about my dislike for Ben. Thought the Steelers should have unloaded him a long time ago. But chose not to go there here but to let people enjoy the moment.

It was a special night in the ‘burg. My sister was at the game with her son and she was so excited I bet she hasn’t slept yet. It was pretty cool to see the crowd......the city...come together. Ben was a unique talent never before seen and probably never seen again.

Early on I predicted a short career as he got hit so often and so hard that he would never survive all the injuries. And he had several concussions early on....including a bad one from a motorcycle wreck. Guess I should admit to being wrong on that prediction,🥴🤷🏽😱😉🤦🏻‍♀️😡 One tough guy.

For my next prediction, the Steelers will be in for some tough days and years ahead. The division is flush with good, young QBs and good coaches. Finding the next quality QB is job one and not an easy one. And I am not sure Tomlin is the coach he was ten years ago.

My favorite player of all-time!! Love him to death but it is time to go. Take his money and totally rebuild your OL and LB positions along with maintaining Watt and Fitzpatrick on the Defensive Side of the ball.

The QB you ask for 2022: Fitzmagic!!

Yeah, could be, but it's hard to bet against the Steelers being at least decent.

After their 1-3 start, who believed they would still be relevant in the last couple weeks of the season? And Tomlin continues his streak of non-losing seasons--pretty clever to work in a tie in this 17-game format;)

Pittsburgh Dad said after the tie with Detroit....”Leave it to the Steelers to find a way to go eight and eight in a seventeen game schedule!”

I read, this morning, that Baker Mayfield's QB rating was the third-worst in all of the NFL for last weekend's games. Guess who had the second-worst QB rating for last weekend? Big Ben.

Both he and Ben could have used some help from the OL this year!
Lots of speculation in CLE that the play calling and prep for Mayfield was so bad that the coach wanted him to fail to get rid of him. I don't agree with this. I think Mayfield is very damaged, physically, that the Browns RT is horrible (he's really the third team tackle and the rest of the OL is so banged up they couldn't double team) and the Steelers simply were really motivated in BB's last home game. Either way, lots and lots of angst in CLE.

Well, looked like the coach wanted Baker to get fried. Should have had either a back or tight end help slow down Watt. Announcers were shocked the Browns made no adjustments.

Browns should have just kept pounding the ball on the ground. The Steeler D would have broke eventually.
Agreed. Word is that Chubb had some bad ribs but didn't disclose it pregame. The second team guy was a game time scratch after being out for several weeks with a bad ankle. So they were down to the third team back who has played well but this restricts the plays available. CLE can't overreact. They've had a really tough stretch of games with weird schedules. Ravens, Raiders, Green Bay, Steelers.

They were eliminated from the playoffs before the game started. Playing to lose and get a higher draft choice?
very possible. They also hoped to have their first and second-team RBs and ended up having neither by the second half. Apparently, Chubb had bad ribs. They expected to have Kareem Hunt back but he was a game-day scratch.

I hope so.....something Pittsburgh NEVER does.

The History of Tomlin says be good enough to be in the playoff hunt until the season ends but not be bad enough to get a difference maker in the draft.

With the 17th pick on the NFL Draft the Pittsburgh Steelers again take some unknown CB from the University of Miami.

Well said. He was sort of a punk 20 years ago - but he grew up. I think it's unfair to judge him on ancient history.

Punter - yes! Big mistake to let Jordan Berry go.
