Black Knight Invitational - Sun, Nov 24

“Pull a Davis”

- Go from lightly heralded mid-40s recruit to B1G Champ, #1 seed at NCAAs and #1 ranked wrestler in country as True Freshman, losing at nationals by a point to the national champ and by SV in the blood round.

Ain’t the put-down that Iowa fans seem to think it is.

Gable coming back knocks you guys down a peg, thank god. and hopefully you'll go with Facundo at 157. Davis could pull a Davis again. Bartlett is taking 3rd. I'll cross my fingers that Lilledahl sucks on the mat.

I'm not saying it's certain. But there's a path to PSU taking second.

Careful, you don't seem very well liked on your own board, you're pushing your luck on this one and when Oklahoma State is humming and you inevitably make comments like this on their board about their guys, even @AtownPoke might not feel generous anymore.

This is the second time he's used that phrase as if that's some regular thing Davis does. He's a true sophomore.

I will add though, Davis dropped a lot in rankings but I wouldn't say he was lightly recruited either. Both Oklahoma State and Michigan recruited him hard and he was a priority for our staff once they saw his film and went to see him practice.

Awww, we need discouraged Iowa fans to come onto this board and vent their frustrations. It allows us to retain our smug sense of superiority when they can't even get within 100 points of us at the NCAA tournament.

The only way Gable knocking Greg down a peg has an impact on PSU's team finish is if somehow Minnesota pushes into second place and then they are only 96 points behind instead of 100.

This kind of both should get you banned in Rivals all together. 🤭

Being well-liked isn’t my jam.

Just want to talk wrestling. And tammit - this board is just too damn (rightfully) smug.

Gotta needle you guys when I get the chance. Cuz there ain’t many.

I initially wondered why we wrestle in this invitational (except our frosh and backups). Seems like a really light field of competition. But after reading the strategy put forth by the coaches and various wrestling pundits it makes total sense. Cael does know best! :)

Looking at the entries for the Black Knight Invitation, it looks very likely that Penn State could have at least 10 guys in the finals! We're contributing here by giving the other participants a chance to go against top level competition. Anyone with a really competitive attitude would jump on that opportunity.
I'm setting the over/under at 12.

As far as I'm concerned this is th3 wrestle off we all beg for every year before the season starts.... I think it's awesome and hope they do it every year!

Every year PSU ends up with guys who didn’t get enough matches so this is an easy way to add on 3-4 easy wins. For some reason the seeding committee puts an emphasis on beating multiple unranked backups.

Where beating multiple unranked backups helps is building the number of matches wrestled. I don't think Cael cares about it for seeding purposes, but the number of matches can affect eligibility for a wildcard.

I thought JB was going to be on Lionvision but it is not showing up on the schedule. The match notes list it.

Anybody on the board doing a preview? There are two guys on other teams ranked #19 in the field. It doesn't look like great competition.

Much like when the "Ivy Mike" test was conducted in 1952, the expected yield was 6 megatons, it ended up being 15.

You’re talking about Castle Bravo in 1954, not Ivy Mike. Ivy Mike was purely a first time demonstration device that used liquid deuterium for the secondary. Castle Bravo was an actual prototype weapon test that used lithium deuteride for the secondary. Unfortunately, the cross section measurements didn’t catch that Li7D would also participate in the reaction due to the generation of fast neutrons. Hence the yield was 2.5 times greater than expected.

I screwed that up, just like when I went on that "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" rant.

Seriously, thanks for the correction.
