Black Knight Invitational - Sun, Nov 24

Facundo has worked his ass off and got down to the one spot he thought he had a shot. Head up kid.

Will have no worries if we need a backup at 157,165 or 174 if someone gets sick, dinged up, etc.

Credit to Kasak. Did what he had to do with the room familiarity. Bottom line, Kasak has a bunch of good stuff offensively and much better on mat

Way to earn it

Clay, Matt from Edinboro coached my younger son in high school years ago. They were fun times. To watch some of our guys and support Matt I went up to the tournament last year.

Saw there as he was in High School, Zach Ryder was the real deal.

197 Final - Josh Barr vs. Lucas Cochran

Period 1:
Circling, Barr shoots in on a leg, but Cochran fights him off. Cochran shoots a double, but Barr fights it off. Back to center, circling & tying up. Cochran pushing forward, but Barr circles back to center. Barr reaches for a leg, nothing, Cochran counters, nothing & they go out of bounds, restart. Circling & head tapping & tying up in the center. Cochran coming forward a little, then Barr pushes him back. Barr looks a little thicker than Cochran, but Cochran is taller. Barr reaches for a leg, nothing. Cochran reaches, nothing & they're back to center circling & pushing hard into each other. It's been pretty evenly matched so far. That's how the period ends. 0-0.

Period 2:
Cochran takes down, gets to his feet, but Barr brings him back to the mat. Cochran gets back to his feet & Barr takes him out of bounds, restart. Cochran still down, gets to his feet, trying to turn in, but Barr brings him back down again. Barr is riding tough. Cochran gets to his feet again, but Barr hikes him up, then drops to a leg & takes him back to the mat. Barr goes over 1-min riding time & takes Cochran out of bounds, restart. Barr +1:14 RT. Cochran gets to his feet, but Barr trips him back down to the mat. Barr almost takes Cochran to his back, but Cochran works back to his base. Barr riding tough, but then there's a stall warning Barr, restart. Barr rides out the period. 0-0 +2-min RT Barr.

Period 3:
Barr takes down to start the 3rd. Barr gets to his feet, but Cochran takes him back down to the mat. Barr keeps working & gets a reversal, 2-0. Cochran gets to his feet, but Barr takes him out of bounds, restart. Barr hammering on top. Wow!. Cochran still down, gets his hips free & gets to his feet for the escape, 2-1. Cochran shoots, gets a leg, Barr trying to come behind. They keep scrambling & Barr catches Cochran & almost takes him to his back. Barr gets the TD, 5-1 & adds 4 NF, 9-1. Barr still riding tough & has riding time locked up. Barr gets Cochran bellied out & goes over 3-minutes of riding time. Barr rides out Cochran & adds a riding time point, 10-1. That was impressive by Barr. He was a beast on top!

Cael has had enough Penn State on Penn State violence for one day.
Yeah, and it's understandable. One thing if two guys are fighting for a starting spot, like 157 (Facundo and Kasak) and 197 (Barr and Cochran). Really not much point of having a starter go against a guy who is redshirting or an obvious backup, as at 174, 184, and 285.

Barr looks amazing and based on today I have no idea why he would ever go down to 184
I wouldn't jump to any conclusions right now. He was noticeably smaller than Cochran. He also didn't get a TD, although room familiarity could be the culprit for that. He's very good on the mat though and he started showing that last year.

Who knows where Mirasola will be next year. It was evident this summer he needed time as he was great on reattacks, but having trouble breaking through advanced head/hands defense. But look how far Barr has come in a year, Mirasola will probably make great strides.

Let's see where we are next spring.

They wrestled the matches that mattered for who is in the lineup. Why wrestle ones that don’t matter. Would you be happy if one of our stars got hurt in match that meant nothing?
Of course I understand the reasons for not wrestling those bouts, but it would still be nice to watch them.

Another thing about Barr .... he's a master of adjustments, which goes perfectly in line with our coaches obviously. Going to assume Cochran won the first wrestleoff since he got the nod in the opening dual and Barr has flipped the result here (in a big way) Similar to how he looked like he didn't belong on the same mat as Sinclair before making Sinclair look like he didn't belong on the same mat as him by the end.

@smalls103 , seems like your crystal ball was a bit cloudy earlier re Josh Barr. Is it clearing up for you now buddy?

Are we still to be comparing Barr to Facundo on his feet??

Someone will.
We realize Barr is an elite guy right? He beat Welsh in HS. Those 2 went back and forth and Welsh was in the finals last year. It's top 4 pr bust in my opinion for him this year. Today doesn't surprise me at all. He did what he was projected to do.

Can we take a moment to realize how lucky we are? First for having someone like Slippery Pete do such a yeoman's job on the pbp. Second, for this team. Most schools are upset because they have a hole or two in their line ups. We have a hole or two in our depth. It is an amazing organization that Cael has built.
