“I don’t know how much he’s been injured like this," Brands said. "I think he maybe could have handled that a little bit differently, being calmer on the mat.

“I think if we could have gotten him calmed down a little bit, we could have gotten back in that match."

On the positive side for Iowa, it "appears" that he will be wrestling again this year.

...the referees for the Big 10 and NCAA tournaments should be required to review the tape of that match as an example of a referee losing control in a college match...
... or maybe just being intimidated by the Carver crowd...
...if he wasn’t injured and just needed to be “calmed down” - a scene we have witnessed before with DeSanto - what does that suggest might happen again in the future? ... hmm... :(

Geez. So he's saying DeSanto wasn't really injured. Wonder how that is going over on HR.
During the bout at 3:45 you can hear one of the Brands very clearly call out to Austin "Hey, they said you're fine. You're fine, son, you're fine." Clearly the coaches and trainers felt he was good to go. Well, physically at least. Personally, I think he was broken mentally when RBY immediately took him down following the initial cradle and the injury timeout.

Another observation, at the 2:16 mark you can hear one of the Brands calling out "What are you doing? What are you doing, you dick? I think he was directing it at one of the refs because he goes on to complain about "you guys" and "that Sanderson crew..." Pretty funny stuff.

That would be funny (In a crude way) if that was directed at DeSanto instead of the referee!:D

The Brands boys bark at everybody.

Well, everybody but that Sanderson crew. The Sanderson crew brings out the yap yap in the Iowa City chihuahuas.

Check it out at 3:21 after the stoppage. Desanto seems to be walking fine for a second and then remembers to limp.

Also, right before the restart after the first stoppage he was jumping up and down. Not exactly what you'd be doing if you just hurt your knee.

Doesn't it appear a little bit ironic that Brands is talking about someone else being calmer?

Turk has a point -- to really show him, need to rough him up, face mush, taunt the crowd, and then swat away the handshake.

I never said Austin was an angel. Like Coach Brands said he comes from his own club. Truly one of a kind. I just found it interesting that someone would want to face mush an opponent that injury defaulted. Seems a bit extreme

I can see fans wanting to see that even if it does seem a bit extreme. When you're talking about Desanto he's an entirely different beast. He really doesn't deserve the respect 99% of the wrestlers out there deserve. From trying to break arms to all the taunting he dishes out....I'd be indifferent to it if it actually did happen to him.

I'll go a step further, if someone were to do anything like that to Desanto I'd rather they just go all the way than a simple face mush. After the facemush Id like to then see them pointing to a crying Austin and wipe the tears away kinda like happened to Murin....who btw, doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.

Question... Is making the throat slash gesture something tolerated in NCAA wrestling? I've seen Austin doing that alot after matches. Even in this video, after the handshake he turns to his coaches and while walking off the mat he lets it fly. I didnt think the NCAA permitted that ...

They just ignore that shit and keep spouting off about how dirty of a wrestler RBY is. I know that some on HR say it's only a few that are like that but that's
I've seen this take quite a bit from Iowa fans that RBY deliberately attempted to injure Desanto's knee. I would like to encourage them to go to Flo and watch the archived match of Chaz Tucker vs Austin Desanto in the 2018 EIWA 133 semi-finals. This should give them a better understanding of what it looks like to deliberately try to destroy an opponents knee. Here's the link if interested, I believe it occurs with about 5 or so seconds left in the 3rd period. https://www.flowrestling.org/video/...-chaz-tucker-cornell-vs-austin-desanto-drexel

Many of us wouldn't like to see a face mush under any circumstance.

Ok Snowflake, even your coach said Austin was being a Fraud

First off "snowflake is so PD2 2017. Horrible terminology. Secondly I was talking about face mushing an opponent that had to injury default. Again i think it's very interesting for someone to wish that on a person. Evidently they are not alone in feeling that way here. It's all good though. Tough sport

Toughness doesn't really have anything to do with it. When a wrestler face mushes another, he doesn't do it to cause pain. Theres never any pain involved. He does it to show the other guy up.....letting him know that at that particular moment, he doesn't have any respect for him. He also does it to show those watching that he doesnt have any respect for his opponent. Its also his preferred method to brag about his accomplishment.

It shouldn't happen period. But you're certainly not going to see me protesting when it happens to Desanto. He's a ring leader for the guys out there feeling the need to show up opponents. If he doesn't like it being done to him then he should start setting better examples..

He may be the ringleader, but FLO is his PR firm.

Are you suggesting that "taking a dive" will forever be known as the DeSanto?

I kid, I kid.....
