only time will tell, but there is some rationale for this.
Willie indicated on FRL that Teske is a natural 125 lber, and despite the comments from Iowa that things will work out, Teske and his parents see Spencer Lee at 125, and know he's a natural 125 lber.
Willie went on to say that RBY or Teasdale might be able to make 125 as true freshmen, for a specific meet, but that he thinks they'd have a tough time making that weight for an entire season, even as true freshmen.
It was VAIS/CP that actually first brought up the info. I can't remember which of them mentioned that Teske was slatted to take visits to Iowa, Minny, and Iowa State. The problem at Iowa is Spencer Lee. At Minny, Lizak, Petry, and Polakowski are all juniors. They have a verbal for the 2018 class from Patrick McKee who looks to be a 125 lber, and is rated slightly higher than Teske @ 120 heading into this season. Iowa State has Jakob Allison (soph) and Daniel Vega (RFR).
PSU does have some numbers at 125, which include Patrick Higgins (Soph), Justin Lopez (RFR), and Kenneth Yanovich (Jr), though none of them attained what Teske attained in high school.
We can only speculate on whether or not landing Teske would have an impact on the recruitment of Kurt McHenry. But McHenry is a junior in HS this year, so the earliest he'll be wrestling in college is the 2019-20 season, and being that he wrestled 106 last year, he may need a RS year to try to bulk up.
With the departure of Suriano, PSU needs some help at 125. The top seniors that look to be 125 lbers in college include Pat Glory (NJ), Aaron Cashman (MN), Patrick McKee (MN), Joey Melendez (IL), and Brody Teske. McKee, as indicated above, has verballed to Minny, and Melendez verballed to UNC. If PSU is lucky enough to land Teske, it looks to be a win-win for both parties.
And with everything in recruiting, only time will tell.
