Cam Ward: a whole new level of ME

Plays only long enough to set an individual record, then opts out the rest of the game to watch his team lose.

Hard to imagine all of his teammates were cool with that. Hard to imagine the staff was.
These players are making business decisions. And until the people who have supported and enjoyed the sport for years decide to make their own business decisions, this evolutionary phase of the game will continue.

Only when there are negative consequences for players behaving in this manner will you see them change their behavior.

Until it affects the bottom line.....

Yup. Just business and there IS an “I” in Team (you all know where to look).

Both can be true.

Expected more from Cristobal. A guy that won 2 national championships should know about the value of sacrifice and team. I guess not. If that is the culture of the U, I can’t see them ever being a National Championship contender.

hey those team mates came up with Cam, they struggled together as freshmen and toughed out those two a days while upper classmen kicked them around, never knowing where it would end but knowing they at least had each other

just kidding, he only showed up for this one year, some of those guys barely know him, he probably doesn't even know the names of a lot of the non starters

Didn't hack sit the second half vs Georgia?

And if I am an NFL GM there would be two chances for me to draft him: fat and none.
Unfortunately the alternatives are Sanders, Milroe, and Beck. I think Ward is the closest thing to a guaranteed nfl starter in that group.

Did he pull himself from the game or did the coaching staff take him out? The latter is what’s being reported.

Any coach that would allow that is asking for trouble moving forward. Ward is only at Miami for 1 yr.-that's the gamble w/the portal, you may get players that will help but they may not feel very invested in your program.

Respect my deci$ion$
If you’re projected to be a high draft choice and choose not to play in a bowl game, why would you play at all that season because you can get hurt just as easily at the beginning of the season (see Winston) as in a bowl game? These guys might as well go the Parsons route.

In this new era of pay to play, these players need to enter into contracts in which they would have to either forfeit or pay back a significant portion of their salary if they don’t complete a season. I watched the Pony Express 30 for 30 on Friday night which is great, and SMU received the death penalty for what is being done openly now.

He wasn't projected as high before playing for Miami. He definitely could have entered after last year, but I'm not sure where he would have fell. Was it 6, 8 QBs in the 1st last year?

I do think it shows a "me-me only" attitude to play just long enough to set a personal record and then sit out the rest, but I'm sure this was known and agreed to beforehand.

Hard to imagine agreeing to that.

If it’s ok for him to quit mid-game then it’s ok for the rest of the team to quit. He’s not the only one on that team with NFL aspirations. Meanwhile, he’s getting paid millions and still quits on his team. I wouldn’t draft him

The problem with your viewpoint is that apparently his teammates and coaches were receptive(?) supportive(?) of his approach of playing in the game.

I'm quite certain that if his draft status would be negatively affected by his decision to only play half of the game that players in the future would take notice and adjust their approach accordingly.

But until there are negative consequences, expect more of the same.

To be fair...did others sit at that point and no one noticed?

In this day of NIL paying really well, opt outs are in excusable, injuries can happen sure-but I'll never be ok with not playing when you can-you're on a team play the games the team plays.

The thing is, it still could affect him. We just won't know unless someone leaks it. Regardless, only 1 team needs to love him and he's off the board.

And then you get guys being paid extra to stay and play so they can lose like Colorado. Why? It's all a sham...kill the bowls

Kinda like the lion quitting after setting a push up record😀

They benched Anthony Richardson for no heart/no team.

Yeah, yeah, not EXACTLY the same but people notice.
Which is entirely different than sitting out the second half of a scrimmage when you already played more than anyone reasonably thought you would

Saquaan sat the second half in his last bowl game but that was okay because he is our guy. What a freaking nothing burger people get upset over.

I was at the game-he didn't sit the 2nd half-he got about 1/2 the carries he normally would get true-but he played all 4 quarters

Nope completely false. Saquan played the second half. Franklin limited his carries some in the 4th quarter and gave Sanders a few more carries, but that wasn’t Barkley’s choice and PSU had a comfortable lead for most of the game.

I wonder if Barkley will sit out this weekend's game with all the other Eagle starters sitting in a meaningless game. Or will he risk injury before their first playoff game. Maybe plays until he gets the record, then comes out.
