Can we just be honest about why our womens soccer team is the best?

sure there's a test...are you attracted sexually to hot women? if yes, you're a lesbian....but, thinking about it, you could be a transgender lesbian.....
It’s confusing. Like multiplying two negatives

The equal pay issue is just..unbelievable.. can you imagine the WNBA .. though best in the World as well.. demanding the same pay as NBA players ? A total joke..but sponsors love this team..I think Bud Light may be a sponsor..
I used to watch all the USWNT games. When they played their national anthem antics I wondered why we picked that group to represent the US. Shouldn't people wearing the US uniform at least respect their country?

Haven't watched since

I liked the guy who declared himself a transgender lesbian. He liked the idea of using the women's locker room and as he was attracted to the girls/women, figured he must be lesbian as well. To no one's surprise, he was mocked. But hey, what self respecting young male wouldn't like the womens locker room and sexual relations with women? For sure, based on the last statement, most of us are lesbian.
The whole thing is crazy!

I totally agree but was happy with the second half. They've seemed to be tentative so far and in the friendlies. But in the second half, they got pissed that the Dutch were being so physical and they weren't getting yellow cards. I saw at least a half dozen times when Dutch players simply grabbed a US player from behind and threw them down. One actually grabbed a player's ponytail and yanked it causing the player to fall backward awkwardly. She got a kick but no yellow.

The US team needs to play with some anger and passion. they look like they are playing to not lose. their coach should be all over them today.
The short reason why the Women's has not looked good is control of the program. They are not well led, he is a bad x-o guy, just terrible. But the reason they are NOT well led is because Nike and US Soccer want an influential puppet to make sure there popular players are, well, played. This is exactly why two of the best coaches in the world, Pia Sundhage and then Jill Ellis left the team. At the time, there weren't really better opportunities in the world, the US was the pinnacle. But they rolled anyway. No coach in the worlds eyes wants to be told what to do, so you hire a puppet, he's not a buffoon, but not good either. Shape, substitution, the passing over of superior players for popular ones, all contribute to it.

Whatever the reasons, it would be good news to hear that they got their little a$$es handed to them….

A past USA team would’ve scored 6 or more goals against a team like Vietnam. The fact that they only scored 3 in that game told me a lot. My guess is that this team will lose to a Germany, England, Spain, Brazil, or even Columbia.
Only getting 3 goals against them will probably cost the USA team 1st place in the bracket. We'll probably need at least a 3 goal differential in the final pool game.

They are done if they have to play Brazil or Germany.....definitely Brazil, it will be a $hit show loss.

The Dutch will obviously try to run it up, but the VC team has played tough defense against teams like Germany. Still may take a 3-0 win over Portugal.

Let's look on the bright side.

I just saw a headline that said that if the U.S. female(?) kickball team loses their next game they might get eliminated out of group play!!

That's true. But they will make it through to the knock out rounds. Wouldn't be surprised if the Dutch ladies win the group on goal differential, as they're playing the Viet Cong women.

At this point, it’s probably better to finish second in the group.

Sounds like merit.

0-0 draw against portugal. Maybe this year's team might not be a winner
Unless an Epiphany happens, this team will not be winning this tournament; they're just not good enough at this moment. Maybe this group needs a good dose of humility, and needs to go away for a while after their 10 minutes of fame expire. Frankly, I'm tired of seeing their faces in commercials touting "girl power" and then hearing their intrepid leader with the purple hair supporting biological males competing against biological females, which is totally hypocritical.

Let's be honest, some of there players are very dislikeable and have been poor representatives of this country. They come off as entitled compared to players on most of these other teams in this tournament, who display so much pride to be playing for their countries.

they are taking some serious heat this morning on several levels. The post-game commentary was pretty brutal. Apparently, the team stopped to do some photo ops after the match and the TV team was saying that they are far too happy after escaping elimination by the skin of their teeth (Portugal hit the post with just a few minutes to play that would have eliminated the US team).

So many have issues with Rapinoe for her political beliefs and the way she carries herself...who else is "very dislikeable" on the team, or represents the country poorly?

As for not being good enough...we're still the favorite, and there is no dominant team at the moment. Everyone out there has flaws. Spain is the second biggest favorite right now, and they are coming off a horrific performance. France is struggling, Germany just had a clunker, etc. It's really wide open right now, but I certainly wouldn't count us out.

one gal, I don't recall her name, scored a goal against England in the last WWC. She then pretended like she sipped a cup of tea. many thought that was bad taste (not the tea, the rubbing it in specific to England). There have also been several occasions where many of them didn't sing the national anthem or have their hands on their heart before games.

Last night, several were dancing after the draw. This doesn't bother me too much but there have been a LOT of rumblings that the team isn't playing their best players due to some kind of responsibility to the players that won back to back championships.

If anything, they looked way too tight last night...they need to loosen up a bit and let go of the pressure if they're going to be successful over the next couple of weeks.

And is not singing the national anthem really representing the country poorly? You think that the majority of athletes are singing the national anthem before games?

IMO, LaVelle is a difference maker on that team when she's healthy, which she obviously isn't. Regardless, she can't play against Sweden anyway because of yellow cards, so that really hurts a team that only scored four goals in three games, two of which were against Vietnam and Portugal. Moreover, this team has struggled against Sweden even when they were at the top of their game.

IMHO, it was a bit of bad luck to draw vietnam in game 1. VN played a completely defensive game and just didn't want to get scored upon. By the time they played the Dutch, they couldn't play defensively as a loss or tie eliminated them. And the Dutch knew that they had to score 3 or more goals so played a much more offensive game. The USA, for a game one, just wanted to win.

the team, to me, looks like they have no heart. They seem distracted and entitled. I don't dislike them except for Rapino who is VERY hard to like. But they seem like they are playing for exposure and money, not to win.

Somebody who is way more invested in the USWNT than I am, Carli Lloyd, basically echoed what you just said about the general nature of this team; I know that you included her comments in an above post. If somebody like her, who is one of the all time greats for that program, feels that way, then I am comfortable with my feelings about them.

From a technical soccer standpoint, the team looks slow, consistently gets beat to one on one balls, and is not in sync with one another. The Defense is good, but the Offense is not good. From a team camaraderie perspective, there have been rumors about 'factions on the team' and some of the younger players don't get along with the older players. I don't think Horan has the leadership and skillset to be an effective Captain on this team. Rapinoe should not be on this team and its clear she is more interested in social activism and politics than making the USWNT better. The injuries to S. Mewis, Sauerbrunn, Dahlkemper, Press, and Pugh have been devestating to this team.

The injuries have played a big role, as has bad luck (and/or poor finishing). The xG I saw has us at 8.0-0.6 thru the group stage, while the actuals are 4-1. We aren't as dominant as we've been in the past, so the margin for error is thinner...then again, we had a very underwhelming Group Stage in 2015 and then turned it on to win the whole thing.

Can you confirm they are all women?

The 2015 team was so much better than this team. This team simply is incapable of doing to a team what the 2015 team did to Japan in the championship game.

And the scary thing is they put Rapinoe on the team for her leadership abilities more than her soccer abilities. Someone messed up.

With the current roster, tough to argue against her being one of the best 23 at this point (or at least that there were any clear omissions that should be there ahead of her). Not sure why anyone would think she's only there for a veteran presence at this point.

Had we been healthy, it would have been a different story.

Not to mention that it's a ridiculously overplayed storyline for those that want to bash them.
I don't disagree with you but don't you think the USWNT brought a lot of this on themselves with the equal pay nonsense? The reality is they shouldn't get equal pay because they don't bring in equal money but now people will make it about anything to put them down. The USWNT is just very unlikeable. It wasn't always that way

I know nothing about soccer, but a couple of articles I read said that about Rapinoe, not me. Both articles said there are better players out there, but she was chosen for her leadership abilities and her experience.
