To be clear...I didn't like the title above when typing it.
I also don't agree with the tone/content of some of the posts in other threads...so I started a new one.
I do get the "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" mentality, and that Shak is a hot commodity right now after winning the Scuffle, and being dominant (correct sp., for dunk) while doing so. Reading between the lines, seems we're being a little hasty if any of you are saying or thinking Shak's-the-man. Just last week, prior to the Scuffle, Cassar was the hot commodity, and he was the man. Just not the way my brain works, that's all.
My insight into this internal competition is limited, though by watching and listening to all the coaches for 9 years now, publicly and privately, my spidey senses, imo, can't be too far off. It's still an open weight, and far from settled as I see it.
Please don't get me wrong. Both guys, Cutch too if healthy, would be outstanding reps at NCAA's, based on what we know now, and whoever goes will have parts of the other two with him when he competes, simply because steel-sharpens-steel. Those that don't go get the satisfaction of contributing to their team mates success, though it's still incredible disappointing too. Even the coaches have stated it's the hardest part of their job...telling a kid that's worked so hard that they won't be wrestling in post-season tournaments.
I'm going to sit back and watch the process unfold. Two months of brutal competitions left. Who separates themselves? As a fan, I suggest being grateful for the talent at 197, and enjoy the rest of the season. For me, right now, after watching both guys, we can't go wrong with either one. It'll come down to who the coaches believe can score the most points...easy to say, not always easy to predict.
So...best of luck to both guys the rest of the way...here's to good health, and inspired wrestling from everyone, all the way through to the end of NCAA's.
