Cassar vs Rasheed

Morelli was the right choice at 165. Corey was cutting too much weight his freshman year and it showed. At 174 i thought he had good track to take the spot and then he got hurt and we saw what happened after.

Regarding any posters who’ve brought up scouting, The cradle has been his go to his entire career he didn’t just come out the gate he’s been seen before. I’m almost positive coaches this weekend knew it was coming but their guys got stuck anyway. Trust he won’t hit it in everybody but he’ll still get it on a lot of opponents and he’ll still be able to beat guys without it as well. Also as an tOSU fan while i don’t see him beating Moore i would advise Kollin not to go underneath him if i had any say about it.

Oh I know that Rasheed wasn't the guy after the tournament in Colorado didn't go well.

The right choice wasn't Rasheed and it wasn't Morelli. It was Hammond.

Is State College High about to be a wrestling power with coaches' kids through the lineup?
I don't know enough to really say, but last night was a simultaneous High School and Jr. High School dual w/ Carlisle. The HS team lost ~52-27 or something (Cole Urbas looked the D1 part), the JR High kids won ~62-24

Based on what i had seen from those 2 that year i don’t know if i could agree. I thought Morelli was the right choice after his results against the Jordan’s i believe he was extremely close to beating Isaac in the dual i can’t remember seeing anything from Hammond that would rival that

I can tell you this - when I was fortunate enough to have lunch w Cael a few years ago, and we were talking about coach's kids, he deflected about his own and said "Casey's are the ones we want!". So there is that.

Casey's kids, talk about awesome genetics. Dad is a NCAA wrestling champion and Mom has a gold medal in Olympic weightlifting. Mom is also the only person to train at the USOTC on 3 sports, weightlifting, gymnastics and soccer.

I told my wife this and she responded with wow. I waited a few minutes and asked if she knew who Casey Cunningham was, she said no, but I assume he has something to do with wrestling.

Proof that while occasionally she does listen to me she doesn’t care enough to actually ask followup questions. Lol.

"Wow" is the new "that's nice, Dear."

To be clear...I didn't like the title above when typing it.

I also don't agree with the tone/content of some of the posts in other threads...so I started a new one.

I do get the "what-have-you-done-for-me-lately" mentality, and that Shak is a hot commodity right now after winning the Scuffle, and being dominant (correct sp., for dunk) while doing so. Reading between the lines, seems we're being a little hasty if any of you are saying or thinking Shak's-the-man. Just last week, prior to the Scuffle, Cassar was the hot commodity, and he was the man. Just not the way my brain works, that's all.

My insight into this internal competition is limited, though by watching and listening to all the coaches for 9 years now, publicly and privately, my spidey senses, imo, can't be too far off. It's still an open weight, and far from settled as I see it.

Please don't get me wrong. Both guys, Cutch too if healthy, would be outstanding reps at NCAA's, based on what we know now, and whoever goes will have parts of the other two with him when he competes, simply because steel-sharpens-steel. Those that don't go get the satisfaction of contributing to their team mates success, though it's still incredible disappointing too. Even the coaches have stated it's the hardest part of their job...telling a kid that's worked so hard that they won't be wrestling in post-season tournaments.

I'm going to sit back and watch the process unfold. Two months of brutal competitions left. Who separates themselves? As a fan, I suggest being grateful for the talent at 197, and enjoy the rest of the season. For me, right now, after watching both guys, we can't go wrong with either one. It'll come down to who the coaches believe can score the most points...easy to say, not always easy to predict.

So...best of luck to both guys the rest of the way...here's to good health, and inspired wrestling from everyone, all the way through to the end of NCAA's.

Personal observations and opinion. Was really anticipating a much more aggressive Cassar this year. From seeing him in person it appears either he can beat almost anyone, or lose to almost anyone. His blast double is a thing of beauty, but against some opponents his lack of aggression gets him beat. As far as Rasheed, and I have not seen him in person this year yet, I think we need to erase the memories of the gassing in the second period. All things being equal, I'll take the falls over the squeakers.

Cassar should take the mat with a takedown goal. Can I get 5 a period? Quit pissing around and wrestle to dominate.

Rasheed can pin a lot of folks and in the Scuffle he looked like he can beat some good folks.

I have it in my head if Cassar wrestles aggressively he can beat any of them. However, he has proven that if he pisses around he can lose to guys who aren't finishing top 12.

Tough choice. Each kid has some very high pluses. Each has a red flag.

Wait, the coaches reply to emails?

The sound we're hearing is Cael's inbox suddenly flooded by Spyker.
After receiving so many Spyker emails giving Cael advice on how to micromanage Quientin's personal life, Cael had the Penn State IT guys set up a Spyker sensor so every time Spyker hits the send to Cael button Spyker receives an electric shock. Patent is pending.

Moore would be a definite favorite over Rasheed but I can tell you this as somebody that pinned 45 in HS with a crossface cradle. He better keep his nose away from his knee ...

Great thread and topic @RoarLions1 it will be an exciting ride to the NCAAs.

As my friend @Tim Owen/BWI staff reminded me the other day, Cael hates to lose more than he even possibly enjoys winning. What is Cael thinking?

Also thanks to @LemonPie for all the clips of takedowns and pins during the tournament.

A lot of you experts make this a great forum to visit.
