CFP rankings tomorrow

Very ignorant post. Wisky travels very well. Wisky also has a marquee player in Taylor.

Ignorant? Penn State will be as high as 6th. Wisky is dropping to 13 or 14. That alone is all you need to know.

I am sure Wisky travels well, but not as well as PSU. On top of that, PSU gets better TV ratings. That is a fact.

And just blew an ez won game (when you go up 21-7 at the halftime gun, this game is yours to lose.. and they did... royally).

Yes, Wisky travels well. I agree. They also have 3 losses. They had that magical 2nd chance few teams get and almost (nee baylor, although they sure had their shot) ALL win. They had momentum, they had a big lead. And they got skunk bear'd 27-0 when it mattered.

Nothing against western cupcakes wisky, but this season was in their hands and they lost to illinois. Just as we could have lost to rutgers. We didn't, they did. End of story.

Did you not watch the SECOND half?
Remember on this board only half games matter and it’s whichever half can be used against PSU....first half of the Buffalo and Rutgers games, second half of the Michigan game, first half of tonight’s game...that’s all these PSU “fans” need to judge things on.

And the only reason they were in the CCG to get a second chance is because they’re fortunate enough to be in the West.

Anything below 10 will surpirse me. It's why that mutt on TV was extolling the virtues of Wisky. If it's close, i suspect the RB takes wisky. If wisky is 13, they have no choice but to take us.

I doubt that happens.

People should step outside of the PSU bubble and realize what the rest of the world is saying about Wisky.
It is not one game it is the season. Losing to Illini and losing to OSU by 31 during the season is not good.

They why did the CFP rank Wisky higher than PSU LAST week? Last week's CFP ranking basically dismissed Wisky's Illinois and OSU losses. Tonight's loss was a wash.

“Should a team from the Big Ten or Pac-12 be selected to go to the College Football Playoff, the Tournament of Roses will traditionally select the next-highest CFP-ranked team from that conference.
The Tournament of Roses may only select a team from its partner conferences.”

End of story. Goodbye

Rose Bowl certainly can take a #12 Wisky over a #9 PSU.

Gregg, you haven't been paying attention this week. There's more.

So Wiscy’s best win was a 13 point loss to OSU?

why on earth would the rose bowl take a teamed ranked much lower with a fan base that doesn’t travel as well.

PSU means more money and a higher ranking is justification.

you guys lost your marbles or just started watching college football.
Hey, genius, Wisconsin is ranked eighth and Penn State 10th. Will Wisconsin drop behind Penn State after this result? Probably. But the committee has a history of not punishing teams too harshly for losing a conference championship game.

Stewart Mandel just wrote this on The Athletic:
8. Wisconsin (10-3)
The Badgers’ couldn’t withstand Ohio State’s second-half surge, but a more competitive effort than their 38-7 loss in Columbus should be enough to keep Wisconsin higher than Penn State and send them to Pasadena. Star RB Jonathan Taylor, shut down in the first meeting, had a more characteristic 20-carry, 148-yard performance. Wisconsin did lose at 6-6 Illinois, but it also won at 10-2 Minnesota and beat 9-3 Michigan and 9-3 Iowa.

9. Florida (10-2)
The Gators may move up a spot by virtue of being idle, but it’s not like they have the world’s greatest résumé. Florida beat 9-3 Auburn, 7-5 Tennessee, 7-5 Kentucky and 6-6 Miami and played two FCS foes. But they were No. 9 last week.

10. Penn State (10-2)
If it were my call, I’d have either 10-2 Notre Dame or 9-3 Auburn here, the latter of which deserves a medal for holding LSU to 23 points. But Penn State was No. 10 last week, and I see no reason why that would change — unless the committee decides to retroactively upgrade Auburn for its Oregon win. However, if the Nittany Lions remain ahead of the Tigers they’ll head to the Cotton Bowl to face Memphis.

So acting like Penn State-Wisconsin is not a tough call is insane.

I'll take our loss to suddenly #18 wisky (which says all you need to know aboiut the idiots in the bcs) over an illinois loss anyday.

it really isn’t a tough call. They drop at least 5 spots below penn state. At least.

I hope you're right. But I fear that simply will not be true. We'll find out Sunday. But the talking heads, who have an influence and a knowledge of what the CFP committee is thinking, are split 50-50 on what happens with Wisconsin and Penn State.

Here’s my guess. Once you get to No. 7, it’s get a bit tougher to predict.

1. tOSU
2. LSU
3. Clemson
4. Oklahoma
5. Florida
6. Penn State
7. Georgia
8. Alabama
9. Oregon
10. Utah
11. Auburn
12. Baylor
13. Wisconsin

Other than I think Wisconsin will be higher, I agree

It IS a tough call... but if I can have the higher rated team that lost 2 vs 3 games and travels better than wisky and will garner more viewers than wisky will... well, gee... tough one.

BTW, how'd JT do in the 2nd half when it mattered? When his team had the game won.

Oh... right. not so hot.

Last I checked we beat iowa too (ATTTT iowa... not winning by 2 at home like wisky did)... and michigan when it was playing much more like michigan. How about we play wisky? I'd be fine with that.

You clearly haven’t observed impact of conference championship losses have on teams. Since 2014, only one team got dropped 5 spots after a conference championship loss. In at least half of the conference championships since the playoff era, the conference champ. loser either only dropped the 1 spot, stayed put, or rose a spot. In most others, the drop was 2 spots. 3+ spots are very rare.

Last year, Georgia lost the SEC championship game against Alabama, 35-28. Georgia went from No. 4 to No. 5.
Last year, Utah lost the Pac-12 championship game against Washington, 10-3. Utah was No. 17 and stayed 17.
Last year, Northwestern lost the Big 10 championship game against Ohio State, 45-24. 45-24!!!! And they dropped from No. 21 to No. 22.

The committee DOES NOT PUNISH teams for losing conference title games.

Completely ridiculous....Illinois is by far the worst loss of the top teans, so that should matter.

I agree that clown on FOX...GFY!
Georgia losing at home to South Carolina is actually worse and let’s bet they are ahead of us.

Just to finish out the Power 5 ...
Texas lost to Oklahoma, 39-27, and dropped one spot from No. 15 to 14.

Oh, and Pitt lost to Clemson by a million points and Pitt was never ranked.

Klatt must have missed the dumb pick thrown by our back up QB driving late, guess that doesn’t count if we’re adding up turnovers as excuses. Nor should the dropped td pass by Journey that would have tied the game into the 4th quarter. Guy has selective memory, must be Mike McQuearys cousin.

Rose Bowl picks who they want. Don’t be fooled.
Yes, they do, but unlikely they do if we're sitting at 7 and wisky is 13. And 3 losses... and just blew a 21-7 lead with tons of momentum. And had their WR and RB (and QB) shut down in the 2nd half.

That said, I don't expect wisky to be ranked lower than 10th, nor us higher than 9th... if that. So what the mutt on TV was saying could be the deciding factor in the ears of fans everywhere. Dude had no business saying it.

And so far s the entire "shouldn't be penalized for playing an extra game" narrative which surfaced for the first time this year should still show Georgia as the #4 seed, right?
They shouldn't be penalized for playing the game, but they may be penalized for losing the game.
So far as WI, they shouldn't be penalized for playing the game, but they got a mulligan that PSU didn't get and lost.
Also, WI shouldn't be penalized for playing the game, but they should be penalized for playing in a division that does not require an undefeated conference record to reach the CCG...

I will bet you a farm that Penn State is not as high as sixth. Florida and a Georgia will stay above them. I suspect Wisconsin might as well.

I fully expect Wisconsin to get the Rose Bowl bid, and any shot of PSU going to an NY6 is in the Cotton. Florida’s ranking has us shut out of the Orange (I disagree with it, but it is what it is). In retrospect, the game this weekend that might do us in is Oregon beating Utah. I thought Utah is ranked too high this week, so I am thinking/hoping they drop far enough to take them out of consideration for the Cotton. But who knows.

going to the Outback Bowl would be a major step back for this program, a three year regression Rose, Fiesta, Citrus, Outback. That’s why it is important to stay in NY6.

Why would they drop 5 spots behind PSU? They were 2 spots ahead of PSU. Ohio State beat Michigan by 4 touchdowns and Michigan only dropped 1 spot.

Let me explain how this all really works after season is complete as I know somebody who knows somebody.

The committee has one job, pick and seed the top 4 teams. After that, their job is done for all intents and purposes. They celebrate it’s over, go out for dinner and drinks, etc.

Behind the scenes, the bowls are negotiating. They are doing this based on $$, of course. They are doing this all night. Like a recruit, prospect etc they have their big board. The Cotton will bend over backwards not to have Wisconsin again, especially vs a non power. They had that 3 years ago with Wisconsin vs WMU and know fans won’t travel as much. The Rose has been historically in favor of taking teams, if basically equal, who have been there less recently. Of course, so fans will be excited and travel.

It all, as always comes down to the $. If the Rose wants PSU, they make a call to the committee and tell them to rank accordingly. The committee gives 2 hoots where PSU or Wisky are ranked, they are completely irrelevant to their end game, especially since OSU beat both anyway.

Then the committee will go on tv and justify why they ranked said team higher and make up any excuse they want. When all they would have to say is “because that’s who the Rose Bowl wanted”

That’s the intel I received a couple years ago and it makes sense.

With all that, my bet is PSU goes to Cotton. Rose fine either way, Cotton needs PSU or anyone not Wisconsin vs non P5 again. Unless, Rose just has to have PSU. Then you’ll see Wisky go elsewhere, but doubt it’s Dallas again. Just my hunch.

Oregon was the second best team I saw this weekend. When they’re on, they are special. And that D can be nasty, our o line would have their hands full. They got a frosh DE, #5 who is every bit of Chase Young.
