Chambers putting his hands aggressively on Dread

If he was winning and the bball program was at least avg. it would be a non issue. But he's not and many of the same problems of the last several years still exist. To me thats a COACH problem and not a player issue.
I've been pretty forgiving of Chambers in the past but I continue to see the same problems with the team. I think he's got this year to figure it out and then we "move on" from him.
Huh? I don't see how winning or losing changes why anyone would think Chambers' shove is inappropriate or not. Personally I don't think it's a big deal, he was trying to "wake up" the player. I can understand if others disagree. I can't understand how someone might think it was inappropriate because the team is losing, but it would have been perfectly OK if the team were winning.

Like it or not, the reality of 2019 is that that sort of behavior is not appropriate in collegiate athletics. Any school could use an incident like that to fire a coach and the coach would have no case in challenging the decision.
Societal wussification.

because if he was winning this wouldn't be a big deal. See any Bobby Knight incident before the choking.
Or even some of the things Joe did. I saw him get in guys faces and pull facemasks but it wasn't until the "dark years" where people started to talk about it.

I take some of these comments with a grain of salt. If it was up to a few of you there wouldn't be a coach left at PSU. At least try to disguise your outrage a bit and just admit you don't want Pat here.

Ok I will. I didn't think I was disguising anything but yea I think its time for him to go. I've seen enough. People bitch about Franklin and this years team not improving (which I think is a complete crock) but its definitely true with Chambers.
He's recruiting really well, better than we ever have but then why are we "about the same" or maybe even worse with all these better recruits.
I've seen the same glaring issues from season 1 to season 8.

How does that compare with PSU's record since being in BIG? About the same ,no?

Conference records-

1. Parkhill (12 years)- 82-116 (.414)
-Parkhill B10- (3 years)- 17-37 (.315)
2. Dunn (8 years)- 45-87 (.341)
3. DeChellis (8 years)- 41-95 (.301)
4. Chambers (7+ years)- 38-91 (.295)

In fairness, Chambers still has the rest of this year to have 8 full seasons to compare to Dunn and DeChellis but it looks like he’ll be similar to DeChellis’ record. The recruiting is better than in the past but the conference results are pretty much unchanged (so far).

Good job on the stats.

not a good look for a coach. I don’t know how to post a video but when dread blew a defensive assignment, Chambers really lit into him and physically shoved him. Really not something you want to see any coach doing to a young player.

Unless the player and/or teammates make an issue of it, steps up, and indicates that this is consistent with ongoing abuse that occurs during practices, etc, it may look look bad but this kind of thing happens all the time in the heat of the moment in sports....again, it doesn't look great but sometimes coaches do those kind of things to get a player's attention and motivate them to play better....generally speaking, I don't see an issue based on info that we know of....

The Irish are a short tempered people. That said I don't see any issue here. People have become too soft

Honest question:
Which players committed or currently on the team would transfer if Chambers was fired? Would all of the talent up an leave leaving PSU having to start at rock bottom again?

We are at rock bottom in case you haven't noticed.

Yeah, but what was the point of it? Because he didn't fill a gap on defense? It wasn't a lack of effort play or something stupid like a technical foul or not paying attention. It was him not making the right reaction on defense. If you're going to get handsy with a player, it better make sense. Chambers just looks like he lost control. He's not teaching there. He's being a hotheaded ass.

Let us just say we agree to disagree. He, Dread, didn't fill a gap on defense; it is a big deal. Just as egregious as the other acts of stupidity you mentioned.

I thought Pat's actions were not that terrible. I've seen worst.

Yes, because I have eyes

Good. Now open them. That was not a shove. And since I can not see Dread's face I can determine his demeanor. Young man would be getting some real attitude adjustment back in the gym after the game.

Problem is he is forced to be playing Freshman (3 of them) who make the same mistakes over and over again.. Why because of a greedy former player who was such a STAR and left the program two years early! Where is that STAR, playing in some dirty gym in Europe for pennies.

Ok but I don't agree.

If Pat was getting to the tourney every year I could overlook him losing control every now and again. Pat doesn’t have the luxury of making scenes like this with a less than 30% B10 win rate.

Don't know what dictionary you are using, but right vs. wrong has nothing to do with winning percentage.

I agree it shouldn’t but It’s not my dictionary but the dictionary of perception. I already gave you the example of Bobby Knight (pre-choking) and ill even go as far as saying that if he was winning at the rate he was it would have probably been buried.

I think Chambers is feeling the pressure and cracking. He has also gone apeshit with respect to some referee calls this season as well. I would not be surprised if he is fired at the end of this season, barring some miraculous turn around. He is no longer a good representative of Penn State.

Respectfully, you can’t watch much CBB without seeing a coach (or both coaches in the same game) going apeshit on some of the officiating calls (or non-calls). Seems more and more frequent this year and we’re only in the first week of January!

Agree but I’m seeing it more now than I ever have before with Pat.

I realize many agree with the Chambers one game suspension. I do not. In fact, the absurdity of the action is, for me, the proverbial straw....
I need to take a break from all things Penn State. I have no idea how long that will be, but I only announce it to avoid speculation that I have died or am in jail. Diane Lane's birthday is January 22nd. If I don't return by that date I may be gone a long time. Peace.

In the current conference standings, yes. But we are far from the worst team. If we end the season at the bottom, then I will concede we have hit rock bottom and Chambers will be unemployed.

Hard to argue they’re any better than 11 at best and probably 12th. Hopefully by March they’ll prove me wrong!

Gambit - best to Ms. Lane.

The suspension isn’t warranted. Having said that, Patrick is likely done. I am disappointed for him. Good luck trying to bring in someone that can provide better results. I don’t see it happening.

Not to be late to the party, but what did Dread do?

I’d be fired immediately if I treated someone like that at work

True, but you’d also be fired if you did the things Ron Jeremy does at work, so not all jobs are quite the same in what is acceptable.

Firing Pat won’t do any good if PSU won’t open the purse strings to get an established coach. Otherwise, it will be more of the same, though the basketball team is making a profit, so all is well in AD land. Better spend the money on another AAD instead.

What he did was wrong, which is why he has been suspended. I could more easily excuse the misstep if was a proven winner.

Prepare your concession speech!

You could also turn that around and say firing the Coach brings zero risk with the results that have been produced. 38 - 91 Big Ten record. Get serious.

I am not advocating keeping him. Just saying the same old approach of hiring a head coach on the cheap will yield the same results. Thats as serious as it gets.
