I thought I would give this thread a provocative title. Chance has become my favorite non PSU wrestler. I love seeing someone pick themselves back up. Even more impressed when they return to what they were born to do.
2) used to be Zahid now he's the devil the new number two us Seth Gross another come back story
3) feels like Logan Massa I love his work ethic. The kid seems genuine to me.
Love to hear about non PSU favorites and why. Thanks

Yep! I am really pulling for Chance to have a great future- in and off the mat!

Chance will have to have a much longer period of time of quality behavior before a pass and congratulations are given.

We have our own experience with a second life and Chance hasn’t been clear as along as Andrew Long was....

Time does the telling. He needs more of it. I am pulling for him, though. No question

Otherwise your 2 and 3 are great. And I’m watching Yanni and I do appreciate watching Snyder.

Yanni is a machine and Snyder well....yeah but he's a Buckeye. When he's wrestling for team USA I think he's everyone's favorite the kid is uniquely awesome!

I don’t mean to sound bitter, but they way the race appears this year, my favorite wrestlers will be those who defeat Buckeyes.

As for style, I like the Dylan Ness / Dylan Palacio types.

Massa, Kemerer, Snyder, Yianni, Zahid, Chance and (as much as it pains me) Suriano.

I like all of the suggestions so far. I'd add Meredith when he's on, which isn't always consistent, and Kaspar. He's been in a funk this year, but I do love A. Valencia's flying squirrel routine, and Chandler Rogers can wow.

Current wrestlers; Meredith, Gross, Lizak, Womack (who wouldn't root for an Alabama wrestler!), Z. Valencia, Kasper...and others.

Recent past, but moved on; D. Terao, Clark, D. Ness, Palacio, Dean, T. Nelson :), and Theobold and Kraisser (these last two, only NoVa will understand)...and again, if I think longer, more will pop into my head.

While I mention the names above because, in some way, I feel they've been good for wrestling, (almost all of) my cheering is focused on Penn Staters!!

I root hard for Chance now as well, would love to see him finish 2nd this year. Additionally, I will root for 2nd place finishes from Cruz, Fix (in 2019), Scotty Parker, Yianni, Kemerer or Shields (didn't pick a 149, so going with 2 157s), Zahid, Myles Martin (dad's message board transgressions don't faze me), Kyle Gentile (in 2019) and Snyder. Also letting you guys know that I'll only be able to muster up enthusiasm for a 2nd place finish for Teasdale or Bravo-Young in 2019.

Clark, Stieber and Ringer in the past.

Will be a big Daton Fix fan.

Aside from Clark, all these guys had or have the following in common - will kick your ass but do it with a smile or in a classy fashion. No clowning or showboating.

Clark because he was really tough, made no excuses, and competed hard, but fair.

As for our guys, was very partial to Ruth and Q.

So you're a huge Thomas Gilman fan, right? ;)

I'm not sure I understand the criteria, but I'm leaning towards May Bethea and Austin DeSanto.

Bethea might not light the world on fire, but his and his family's personal story is pretty cool.

And, DeSanto dropping to get another shot at Lee, plus living with autism, I'll be watching him as long as he wrestles.

No secret that IMar has been one of my non-PSU favs. Beastly, intense, enthusiastic, and candid, without being a Montoya or Berger. Fun to watch, and you can tell how much he just loves the sport.

Moisey -- true freshman in a lower-tier program making an amazing run to the 2015 finals. As a huge underdog, smacked a certain someone in the mouth and sent him packing. Very memorable moment.
Hold on, I have to stand for a moment a boo Spencer Lee . . .

Okay, sorry about that. Where was I?

Oh yeah, a few past-era, non-PSU guys I liked to watch (who haven't been mentioned, yet):
• Ryan Lewis -- most jacked arms on a 133 I can remember.
• Chris Fleeger -- another tough 133; kept me well entertained when I spent a couple of years in West Lafayette. His cheering section at 2006 B1Gs in Bloomington ("Chris Fleeger, NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!!!") was just as entertaining, lol.
• Joe Dubuque -- another beastly lightweight; got to see him a bit during the same stint out in the Midwest.

Most of mine are already listed here, but I'll second DeSanto. I was shooting Beat the Streets and some kids in the crowd begged me to bother him for autographs; he was going to compete but got injured. Anyway, he couldn't have been nicer. He limped over and signed autographs. posed for photos, and then thanked me for telling him, even calling me "sir." And then all the kids booed Spencer Lee because he chose Iowa.

Nolf, Zain, DT and Ruth recently. Jim Martin is my favorite from back in the day.

I have had the pleasure of talking with Austin a couple times and could not agree with you more. Extremely polite and easy to converse with for his age. Some are not fans of some of his perceived manner on the mat, but IMO he is not being disrespectful ever, quite the opposite, just that he is a bit different than the average wrestler.

Desanto is living with autism? If so he's moving towards the front of my line.

Moisey's 2015 run is something I'll remember twenty years from now.

Pretty sure I've seen that multiple places, but the one I can find now is on HR from DayHawk18. No idea how he knows, but speaks about it definitively. I know, the Internet. It's also been speculated that that was one of the reasons he chose Drexel, because of proximity to home.

Louie Hayes UVA. Wrestled 106 at Fargo going into senior year in hs. "Bumped up" to 113 as a senior to bump heads with returning Illinois champ Real Woods. Some in Illinois thought he should try to get his 1st hs state title in his last shot at 106. I countered that he was trying his damndest to get bigger for college and maybe he is confident in his ability to beat Woods. "Beating Woods is a pipe dream" "He will never wrestle for UVA with Mueller and Illinois stud X also going there"

He beat Woods in the finals, as a red shirt knocked off Dylan Peters and starting this year as a rs frosh has some quality wins and is nationally ranked.

If DeSanto has autism, he doesn't discuss it publicly. I googled "Austin DeSanto autism" -- this has been claimed by a poster on HR and a poster on The Mat.

Somehow those don't seem to be verifiable sources.

There are a few other unrelated search hits: He participated in the "Pinning Down Autism" all-star event. Also a few random mashup articles where DeSanto and autism both appeared but in separate sections.

This isn't nearly enough to make me comfortable discussing his medical state. Hope I'm not the only one.

Wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the thread title, but this is rapidly becoming my favorite thread!! Yes, we are all PSU Homers ... but this sport is too damn exciting to NOT recognize the talent outside of Rec Hall ...

I'd like to mention Hayden Hidlay as a favorite to watch, he's 5 for 5 in bonus this year ... last night, he cut ODU's Early late in the match and got a takedown with 1 second on the clock for a 13-5 win -- love the aggressive style! *( it's spreading )*

Honorable mention on my list of guys to watch, can't have a thread without the most feared TOP wrestler in the country - Lizak's reputation for dominating from TOP has the best guys in the country afraid of being underneath that ride.

Couple hours to go until CKs begin in Vegas, sorry BOSS --- I'll have my good eye on the other computer screen!

Yeah, you're right. I thought I had seen it in more than one place, but can't find any other references, either. I apologize and should not have brought it to this board, without further evidence.

125- Lizak
133- Gross
141- Merideth
149-Sorensen
157-Kemdog
165-Rogers
174-Lewis
184-??
197-Miklus
285-Kasper

These are just the guys who I like to watch wrestle in general. I could list a bunch of PSU guys since I'm an ISU fan deep down, but I consider myself way too much of a PSU fan to honestly go that route.

I swear I saw it discussed on this board over the summer -- otherwise, I would have simply filed it away as "stuff other people have speculated" (which doesn't tend to stay in my memory very long).

Not saying this happened in this particular case, but this board does have content erased on occasion, and discussion of this subject would seem to fall into a category eligible for such treatment . . .

Ryan Lewis was a machine!!! Loved watching that guy compete, one of the best wrestlers to never win a title in my opinion, couldn't get past those Johnny Thompson blast doubles!!!
