Chris Petersen gone from Washington

3...2...1... until Davey Jones or Corey Gieger have a Franklin to Washington blog out.

Yeah, even though they already announced the DC is his replacement, I wouldn't put it past either to still go down that path.

Got his first paid coaching position under Franklin (sorta)…. was an offensive QC guy on UMd staff when CJF was OC.
sorta is correct, though it appears Ralph really liked him.... "When Bush worked for me, I thought he was one of the bright young coaches in the profession. He took over coaching the quarterbacks for us when James Franklin left for Vanderbilt and did an extraordinary job for our bowl game. I've recommended him many times and I think he's an up-and-coming star." – Ralph Friedgen, former head coach, Maryland

Very odd indeed. He seems like a good guy, but honestly, he has always seemed a little
"off" to me for some reason I can't put my finger on.

Lake to take the lead.

Emerson and Palmer to provide support.

Thank you. I will see myself out.

Palmer just played State Theatre the other night, perhaps bought one of Urban's houses out by Tussey Mountain on his way through.

Don't know what's going on with him, but I would doubt unless he's changed. Chris is a huge fly fisherman and that's important to him.

Now there are three threads on this subject. And the original isn't that far down the first page.

Maybe Washington will offer Schiano their DC position.....
Hey, he may be looking for an out already.

With apologies to Mike Leach, I thought Petersen was the best coach in the PAC 12, and one of the best coaches in the country. But he did seem to be a bit out of it this year, like he had lost his enthusiasm for coaching. It sounds like he is not going anywhere else to coach for now.

That conference may be totally up for grabs over the next few years.

So, if needs to "re-charge" the speculation (at least here) is that he is going to wait out Clay Helton's tenure and make a move to USC. I can certainly understand that.

Some potential near future (within 3-5 years) of potential job openings that may or may not be of interest to Petersen.

1. Texas
2. Arizona (although I don't see him wanting this job as it's relatively low profile).
3. Alabama (depending on if Saban wants to/has to retire).
4. Clemson (I see Dabo taking Alabama if it opens up,and Bama would pay out the prorated $50MM buyout).
5. Michigan (gotta get a shot at Harbaugh on these lists)
6. Notre Dame (still think Kelly's head will explode).
7. UCLA

The Pac 12 has some good head football coaches. Wittingham is probably the best coach in the Pac12. His team looks like a playoff team this season. Cristobal is widely regarded as a good coach. Same thing for Mike Leach, notwithstanding his eccentricities. Justin Wilcox is a good coach who has his hands full at Cal. Brian Shaw has had a pretty good run at Stanford.

Franklin to Washington...his wife went to Washington State, so it’s close enough.

He will announce he left for health reasons, but then be back coaching USC next year....will he be applauded for it like Urban always is?

Dabo's buyouts if he leaves for Bama range from $6mm to $1.5mm in 2027. For practical purposes, double those numbers. Either Dabo has no plans to leave Clemson, which wouldn't surprise me, or he has idiots for agents.
