Clarion Open

Shunk down 9-2 in the first as I got there way late and must’ve missed him giving up a handful of back points...he was in on a shot late, but couldn’t convert.

he’s on bottom now to start the 2nd and he gets the reversal...he’s down 11-4, but riding tight
Gives up an escape and takes a sloppy shot - gives up the TD
Climbs an arm with the other guy riding legs and he reversed him - it’s 6-14 after 2

Neutral to start the 3rd and Mooseman drives in and scores a double
Shunk escapes and it’s 16-7
TD for Shunk and it’s 9-17 after RT added.

Missed the first, but the next two periods were competitive, just too much of a deficit to overcome

Assuming they only place top 4...

Shunk is out after going 2-2
Meredith is in Consi-Semis 2-1 so far
Barraclough in Quarters 2-0 so far
Matt Lee out 2-1 (missed his last match)
Feite 1-1 in consos
Joe Lee in semis 2-0
Starocci in finals 3-0
Ball out 0-2
Beard in finals 2-0
Smith out 0-2
Kurtz in consi’s 0-1
Carmenatty 1-1 in consi’s

Kurtz v. Boyle (Kent) on mat 5 now

kind of boring first period with one shot attempt between both guys in 3 mins - atleast it came from our guy

Boyle escapes to start the 2nd and it’s 1-0 now
Both guys have Stall Warnings
Kurtz snapping plenty, but not much else
It ends 1-0 after 2

Kurtz chooses bottom in the third
Boyle signals neutral to the ref and it’s 1-1 now
Ugh, OT

no offense to either guy but this match is setting wrestling back a few hundred years...were in rideouts now
Kurtz on bottom first and he tries an elevator as he faces him but fails and gets ridden out
Now Boyle down and he’s out quickly
Boyle getting trainer attention because apparently this match hasn’t gone on long enough already

and Kurtz can’t get a TD and it’s done

Im just crotchety. But OMG can mean a lot of things. The funniest/worst is when there’s a string of 1/2 word reactions with no content. For those not able to watch/listen, it’s torture
After Berge this week......you are right, but just about everyone is guilty to a degree. My mind flashed negative, which is unusual

Let’s him go and scores again

14-5 to start the 3rd
Lee doves in on a double for another TD

Lee wins it 18-5 and makes the finals!

Barraclough v. Cook (Clar) Quarters
No score after 1, but Bar looked to be the aggressor for the most part

bar chooses bottom
He’s out in :14?up 1-0
Follows up with a TD from a scramble, 3-0 Bar
Bar with a crab ride out of bounds
Bar rides him out to get 1:01 in RT

Forward gets a single and scores it, but Meredith is out quickly - it’s 4-4 now

Girard is up and out to start the 2nd and it’s 5-4
Meredith in on a nice si hole but loses it in a scramble...still fighting him off but loses a battle on the edge to give up a TD
Meredith is out and he’s down 7-5

Beard v. Bulzak (Clar) FINALS

Got to it late and it’s 6-4 Beard in the first
Bulzak escape and it’s 6-5 after 1 and Beard has 1:04 RT

Bulzak chooses bottom
Tries a switch and sits a few times til he escapes
Bulzak scores a go behind to go up 8-6
Both legs in and this is reminiscent of how their match ended last year except for this time Bulzak has a lead

Beard chooses bottom in the third down by 2
He can’t stop the legs again and he’s getting flattened out
He gets halved over and gives up 2 NF
Beard down 10-6 now
Beard in a switch, gets a reversal but it’s not enough - Bulzak wins it 11-8...rough one!

Still hasn't learned how to defend legs coming in. Bulsak was almost telegraphing them in slo-mo and Beard couldn't catch them.

Not much fight after mid-way through the 2nd. Very reminiscent of last year's match.

Fully agree

Surprising result especial considering Beard is training with Cael, Bo, Cassar...
Some conditioning is needed for sure. He looks plenty thick but slowed in most matches towards the end. I don't see him handling someone like Moore right now by any stretch. It will be interesting to see if we hear of any details re a wrestle off with Conel, but despite the grey shirt year he might need more time and that was not my expectation.

Who did he lose to?
Logan Brown of Army.

Service kids are tough - even good college kids occasionally end up on the wrong side of a score against a service kid that you would think they would beat.

I don't know. I have seen Beard wrestle an awful lot of times - HS through college. When he looks good, he looks great. But grinding matches out has never really been his forte.

I gotta say that Bulsak is a mini hulk. The dude is ripped. Once he got both legs in and broke Beard down to his belly, Bulsak just manhandled his half in to turn Beard for back points. Looked painful.

Bulzak was 17-6 last year, 0-2 at NCAAs as an at large qualifier.

Tough kid, but round of 12 type guy would be a stretch.
