His lucky orange tie was only good for 1 win.

Auburn was playing shorthanded even before they lost one of their main starters with a broken ankle (IIRC). They, much like Oklahoma, were in the tournament based on what they did early in the season. Truthfully, they were not a tournament team by the tournament.
