Coach K "calls out" the NCAA

I think the G league will ultimately do more damage than good for young minority BB players. I see Agents and GM’s exploiting young athletes by luring them out of HS and reducing them to nothing more than practice mates for more skilled players. Baseball has a three tier minor league system that’s filled with no name players who are rarely ever spoken about, players who are shown the door with bare minimum contracts.

After what happened to the Auburn player the other night, how long before star college basketball players skip the Big Dance? Many thought Zion Williamson would never play for Duke again after his knee injury.

How long before college players play in college just long enough to establish their draft position. Why play more?
Seeing the pain and anguish of the Duke players after the loss today, with their next stop being millionaires in the NBA, makes me think that it would be quite a while before players decided to voluntarily skip the tournament to protect their draft stock.

I don't deny that.

He plays ALL tough teams either at home, NJ, or NY.

LOL!!

If you can call some of them TOUGH!!

This year alone...Duke played Auburn and Gonzaga in Hawaii, and Kentucky in Indianapolis.

Last year, they played Michigan St in Chicago, Texas and Florida in Oregon, and Indiana in Bloomington.

Doesn't seem to fit with your "they plan ALL tough teams at home, NJ, or NY" narrative.

Well, go back over their schedule for the last 15 years or so.

Indiana a 'power-house'? and Texas??

I think Auburn had one of their better players hurt and out at the time.

They LOST to Gonzaga.

Michigan St. IMO was not that good early on but got better as the year went on. Didn't hey have a big man out at the time they played as well?

The potential for this is there but I doubt it will happen. The baseball minor league system was created when about 5% of people went to college. There literally was no other option if somebody wanted to pursue that career. Not the case with basketball. It will come down to why would the NBA fund something that already exists?

The only answer is to lock up players at a younger age, like the academy system in soccer. I just don’t see the NBA signing 16 year olds to pro contracts, not that being accepted by the general public.

But who knows. Millions follow obviously corrupt to the core college sports now, with the justification that everyone else cheats, except my team. Yeah right. The players in a corrupt system who knowingly participate are just as culpable as those running it. This will continue as long as most college presidents, coaches and the NCAA are cowards.

If Coach K is such a man of principle, then take your millions and walk away. Otherwise, the only difference between him and Calhoun, Williams, Miller, Pitino, Pearl, etc is that they didn’t have 3 layers of buffer and Nike running cover for them and got caught.

Or the NCAA could make all scholarships count against the school for four years whether someone leaves early or not. That would force coaches to take fewer one and done players.

Been saying this for a long time...make it even simpler.
-Every school gets X schollies a year (maybe 23?).
-Kids still get 5 years to play 4.
That is it. No early enrollment. No processing. No games.

In a 5 year period, that is 115 new scholarships
If a school redshirted every kid and they all stayed for 5, that would be 115 scholarship athletes.
If a kid leaves early for the NFL, or departs the university for academic, behavioral issues etc, that is simply one less player than 115.

It will be up to each school to manage their roster and the types of kids they recruit.
Recruit a bunch of questionable kids and NFL blue chippers and you'll have fewer kids. Schools like Stanford will likely have more than most.

Not really. The. Nba has ALWAYS had voice and there is nothing the ncaa can do about it.

NBA can draft players out of high school if the want. NBA did the ncaa a favor by not drafting players out of high school. Nba does not need the ncaa to give them a voice. The nba' s voice is the multi million dollar contracts they can legally offer.

Nope. The NBA did themselves a favor by restricting 18 year olds straight out of high school from being eligible for the draft. The NBA doesn't want to risk the money signing such young kids. And the NBA players association doesn't want to risk the jobs older players could potentially lose to 18 year olds.

IMO, both the NBA and NFL should be forced to open their drafts to 18 year olds. Few would be selected, but that would open the free market to all adults.

everyone should be allowed to play in the G league. If the kid then realizes he will not make it to NBA, they should be allowed to be on scholarship in NCAA for a total of 5 years after HS graduation. They should have a right to earn a living, just not from schools.

NFL owners are getting a free billion dollar ride by not having to fund a developmental league. It’s a joke people don’t wake up.

Hasn’t won a national championship since 2015 and has only won the ACC tournament 2 of the past four years. What a failure.

These posts are so idiotic (especially when the same post is copied/pasted into multiple threads). About 345 fanbases in the country would love Duke’s results over the past 4 years.
