I have little doubt that CJF is an excellent choice, long term, for our program. I absolutely think he's deserving of our respect and support. However, the game day coaching has been unacceptable. I don't think there are any two ways about it. I think we have two more wins this year with JM still on board. My suspicion is that JM made most of the 4th quarter decisions last year and that CJF and Rahne are in over their head without JM on the sideline. I think many fans feel this way. My hope is that they bring in a top notch consultant post season.

So you're saying that JM made most of he 4th quarter decisions in the OSU and MSU games last year?? How did those games work out??

JM's team had 3 points last night.

How are JMs 4th quarter decisions working out for MSU this year?

I think its our offensive approach that is kinda the issue, we have finesse offense and it just doesnt have the killer instinct in it to put games away in the last few minutes

Um, what??? We had the same criticisms last year and lost the same two games last year. Is this the bizarro world?

How does Morehead stop the opponent from going 96 yards on 3 plays?

19 sec last series enexcusable. JM diversion, or not.

I think the 19 seconds is part of a regular problem with clock management when we have a lead. these are well understood in the coaching profession, so when you have the lead and just a few minutes to go:

  • you do not run plays that might stop the clock.
  • you avoid penalties to stop the clock
  • if a player on the other side fakes and injury (#6 on Indy and #18 on MSU) when the clock restarts with play you bleed it to the max.
  • if the game clock is running you snap as close to 0 as possible
  • if you can run straight ahead (i.e. Myles had gained good yards in straight ahead runs), then you hammer the ball.
  • all of the above takes a winning attitude

Yes. Obviously, every game situation is unique, but anyone watching the final 6 min of the game would wonder if our staff was trying to lose this game. i recall JM making a number of unwise calls last year, but not to the extent that we saw yesterday. Under 2 min and up (other team having 1 TO) you absolutely do not throw the ball.

A great deal of on field experience and leadership graduated after last season. The positions have been filled with talented but inexperienced players. Their confidence has been shaken. When a team is in the midst of this sort of thing they become tentative and wait for something "bad" to happen. On field leadership cannot be manufactured by coaching. Leaders will emerge eventually and take the roles of Cabinda and Allen etc. Patience is a virtue at this juncture. We (myself included) were foolish to dismiss the experience and leadership that moved off the roster after last season. All things considered a top 20 finish (possible top 15) would be an accomplishment and a spring board for advancement into the top 10 again next season.Let's hope that CJF can weather the storm and keep another fine recruiting class together.

If you’re talking about the Indiana game, we didn’t have the ball with under two minutes left. If you’re talking about MSU, we didn’t pass with under two minutes left. So I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about.

JoMo was willing to make a short stop at PSU because he was aware of the incredible weapons he would have at his disposal. He took a calculated risk and while his demand was at a peak, signed a contract that set him and his family up for life.If his tenure at MSU fails, he will be offered OC positions elsewhere. This is not to denigrate in any way his contribution to a wonderful 2 year run. However, no coach can make chicken salad out of chicken shit. His offense without the personnel he had at PSU is pedestrian.
Please raise your hand if you ever heard of Joe Moorhead before Franklin convinced him to leave Fordham. There are dozens of JoMo's laboring in relative obscurity at lower levels of college football. Like the minor leagues in baseball, only a select few get the "big break."
JoMo will live on at PSU as a demi god since his stay was short and sweet. As has been demonstrated time and again....when in comes to coaches...familiarity breeds contempt.

okaaayyyy. but then how do you explain MSU, OSU last year and the Rose Bowl?

One week the coaches are criticized for being too conservative. The next it’s not conservative enough. Which is it supposed to be so I can let coach know?

Whatever one works is the right answer. It’s easy to coach after the play is over.
