To each their own. Personally, I would always root for whoever is competing for America no matter where they went to school.
Kind of wondering if you would fell it appropriate to attempt the childish shame card on the Amine family.

Whoever can win and have the American flag flying high and the national anthem being played is who I want to win .
No shame on them. However, if I was a Michigan fan and an Amine was competing against an American, I would root for the American. If Spencer Lee was competing for France and was facing an American, I would root against Spencer.

Do you really want to unpack each person’s value function on here? With your one-dimensional opening question, I’m guessing you may be in for more than you’re bargaining for.
It's really simple. In international competition do you cheer the person representing the US or someone else.

I don’t care who you root for, this match is all kinds of exciting. Ono looked completely unstoppable last year, but Spencer has such a unique style and edge with this grip strength, etc. No matter the results, fans win.
I prefer to think of it as the Disney World of Iowa. "Greatest place on Earth" kind of vibes, for sure.
Going to be a great event all around. Anyone making the trip?
No idea how Lee/Ono will play out. Brooks/Zahid rematch will be a good one. Andonian/Gomez probably going to be like 17-14 before someone gets stuck. Carr has his work cut out for him against Takatani.

I rooted for Spencer Lee in the Olympics. I always root for USA athletes in the Olympics regardless of their college affiliation.
But the upcoming event isn't the Olympics. It's an exhibition between a former Iowa wrestler and a current NLWC wrestler. The hierarchy goes: God, Country, Penn State, NLWC, all others, Iowa.

It depends. It isn't the Cold War anymore, so we don't need to show the world that us US capitalists are better at sports than those cheating, steroid eating, Communist, rat b@st@rds. If I don't like a person on the US team competing as an individual, or a particular whole US team, because of how they act or the woke crap they spew then I will root against them. My rooting has no effect on the outcome, but it makes me feel better when they lose. Sue me. Ono all the way..............
