Answer: Here's Boomer, and Breaking Away. **

Question: Give two bad names for a laxative.

** Too young to know?: Those are two movies circa late 70s / early 80s.

I liked when Johnny brought the general public up to speed on "euphemisms". My favorite was his alternative name for a heart attack. He called it "Doing the Horizontal Foxtrot." ;)

Late night TV was never better. Great music, guests, conversation, ad-libs, etc. Johnny had a keen sense of self-deprecation on stage as well. Hard to believe he was supposedly such a brooding, miserable bastard off the set but there are so many stories.

I honestly have not heard that he was such a prick but I would not be surprised. He appealed to me because he seemed like me and to "get" me. Given Johnny's status, some of the stories of him being a prick may be from some of the #metoo types who were way ahead of their time. ;)

In reading about him, appears alcohol definitely played a factor. He liked to drink, but didn't have a great capacity, and could be mean and angry after drinking.

Great, great entertainer. Waaay better than the current late night crop (though I do consider Jimmy Fallon an amazing talent) but Johnny was very professional; he could skewer both sides politically.

From what I know he had a terrible family situation as a kid, especially with his mother. Yes he drank a lot and had how many failed marriages, four? But like anything in sports or entertainment you see what you see and with me w/r/t Johnny he was the king back in the day. When I was a kid (teenager) I'd come home from running with my friends and watch that show every single night and loved every minute of it in varying degrees of sobriety. It was what it was...great free nightly entertainment.

There was a special on TV a few years back about his life. He came from a small town in Nebraska. His Mother was an overbearing witch. No mater how successful he was, it was never good enough. He did struggle with alcohol and gave it up after several bad incidents and admitted that he didn't handle it well. He died of lung cancer attributed to smoking. If you watched his show he would often have a cigarette in his hand. That was just part of the time.

He was an amazing host no matter who he had on the show as a guest. Watched a few videos of him with Rodney Dangerfield a few nights ago.....hard to believe how long he’s been gone.

Once he left the show, it was like he went into the Witness Protection Program.....he really valued his privacy. A shame, he was liked and / or loved by most everyone (or so it seemed).
