Durkin returning to Maryland

turns out the board doesnt have the authority to fire either one, only the president does. So the president is going to retire....what a shiat house

The board does not have the authority to fire Durkin or Evans — only school president Wallace Loh does — but the USM board made it clear to Loh his position would be on the line if he did not reinstate Durkin, according to the Washington Post.

“It was made clear that if he wanted to remain in his position, he had no option,” said one person close to the situation said. “He ultimately felt it would’ve been tremendously disruptive to the entire campus if he was to be terminated simple because he wouldn’t put the coach back on the field. . . .

“The board has no authority to hire and fire a football coach, but they made clear that returning DJ to the field was their highest priority.”

DJ Durkin and Damon Evans both retaining Maryland jobs. School President Wallace Loh planning to retire in June. Much more coming shortly...

Sincerely if I am Canada the man named Matt not the country. I succeed immediately from UMD. He was done wrong

Classic Maryland. They just made a bad situation worse. What recruit with viable options will choose to play for Durkin? They've just set their program back even further.

So let’s see. A team flounders and the head coach is rightly to blame. After all he hires the coordinators, position coaches, S&C coach, etc. The buck stops with him. A kid dies during practice after the staff either missed or ignored the symptoms of heat stroke and then didn’t use “best practices” when treating him, and the head coach is not to blame. But wait, it then comes to light that the players are afraid to speak up because of the culture Durkin instilled in the program...not Durkin’s fault. His right hand man, S&C coach Court, threw a trash can full of vomit at players, choked a player with a bar bell, and was accountable to no one - not Durkin’s fault. GOBSMACKED...and I’m not even British.

Several reports state that numerous players walked out on Durkin at his team meeting today. Split locker room now, downward spiral to come...

Not

Not totally shocked however... you have to think he will be on a very very short leash... may even effect how he goes about practices etc,

The damage is done.., obviously the life of a young man has been lost... but this will hang over Maryland and Durkin.., fur a long time.

Recruit Parent “ What are you doing now to protect my son during his 4 years at the University”

Recruiter “ Well.,. We have been making strides and hired specialists along with checks and balances so your kid does not die during practice”

Recruit Parent “ That’s comforting ..”

It was the President's fault obviously, esp. considering he wanted to fire Durkin, which would have been the smart thing to do. Now they have lame duck President and a lame duck coach. Serves them right.

McNair's lawyer tried to control the court of public opinion in kicking off that ESPN piece that basically prompted this whole investigation.

Maybe Pitt will give Matt Canada (sp.) an offer. He can't be too happy after being interim coach and doing a fine job.
Almost bingo, nothing about Canada because they know they can’t afford him. But on the LAIR they are already beating the drum for many of the Maryland players to transfer to Pitt. And of course there are a few gratuitous shots at Joe.

It gets worse. Durkin made players watch animals eating other animals, shows on serial killers, and horror movies during team breakfast. I mean WTF? And he keeps his job!

Who would want to play for this guy?! Besides the obvious ethical issues involved in retaining him how do they think he is going to recruit? Maryland appears headed for Rutgres territory.

The best response to Durkin

66-3

Nov. 25, 2017

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Quarterbacks Trace McSorley and Tommy Stevens were responsible for seven of Penn State's (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) nine touchdowns, as the Nittany Lions earned their largest Big Ten win ever with a 66-3 rout of Maryland (4-8, 2-7 Big Ten) in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon on Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.

The 66 points scored and 63-point margin of victory were both Big Ten records for the Nittany Lions, as they earned their 10th win of the season to mark the first time since the 2008 and 2009 seasons that they posted back-to-back 10-win seasons.

Penn State led the game from its first possession, building a 31-0 lead by halftime.
