Will likely end up being bowl eligible. Illinois shit the bed against Minnesota, and could have ended up 10-2, with losses to Oregon and us.

I am sick of this narrative that ignores Notre Dame, Texas, Indiana, BYU, Tennessee, SMU, Miami, and others playing a bunch of nobodies. And the SEC also seems pretty "mid" this year, with so many 3 loss teams.

Do I think we win more than 1 playoff game? 50/50.

But the point is that we are by no means a poor team, in spite of little production from a Wide Receivers room with a possibly bad coach, and some injury issues. And all we can do is play the schedule we are assigned, and then you win some and you lose some.

PSU doesn’t have to apologize for its schedule at all; it was the 32nd toughest schedule as of yesterday. Despite USC only being 5-5, PSU is the only team to beat them at home. Also, despite Washington being 5-5, they are a decent team that’s unbeatable at home. Likewise, three of Wisconsin’s losses have come to Bama, Oregon and PSU; they’re also a decent team.

Are the top four or five SEC teams really good? Yes. However, they also have several mediocre teams and several below average teams just like every other conference. Does anybody really think that teams like Kentucky, Miss State and Oklahoma would be any better if they had to play a Big 10 schedule?

And yet, those top teams in the SEC lost to Vandy and Kentucky. The top of the Big Ten simply did not lose to the middle of the pack which leads to those teams have worse records.

I posted in another thread, it is really tough to win going coast to coast in the BIG. If that Oregon OSU game was in Columbus, OSU is number 1 right now. And we were damn close to beating them.

Really, if the playoffs were 16 teams with no byes, it virtually would eliminate arguments about which conference is better because all deserving teams for the most part would be in it.

I get the point and kind of agree but wins over 5-5 Washington/USC/Wisconsin simply isn't going to be looked at positively. Illinois is really likely the only team to win more than 7 along with BGSU. We don't have a signature win while most the SEC does. Fair or not, that's a true narrative. Just like it's a true narrative that Bama, Ole Miss and A&M have a bad loss.

All that said, we should be ahead of Texas as they literally haven't beat anyone

I just want to correct myself: Washington is 6-5; their last game is at Oregon so they’ll almost certainly finish 6-6.

Hoops had the B10 v ACC challenge. Should so the same with football b10 v sec
That would be great, but most of those blowhard SEC schools never have been too interested in crossing the Mason-Dixon Line to play non-conference games. They’d rather play Northeast Southwest LA Tech.

The top 32 or 48 programs should just break away. Form their own league like the minor leagues of the NFL play formulaic schedules and have their playoffs. Everything decided on the field. Personally that would end my interest in college football which has been slowly waning for years anyway. What I would like to see that will never happen unfortunately because of the TV contracts, etc.... get back to the regional conferences and put us in an Eastern Conference will all of our back in the day rivals, Pitt, Syracuse, West VIrginia, BC, etc. We would be the marquise program, the alpha dog, and the protected brand. Much like OSU and Michigan enjoy in the the Big Ten. Bring back the Big 8, bring back the Southwest Conference... If you had 8 geographically focused leagues you could have an 8 team national championship tournament, you could save millions in expense and bring back the regional rivalries that made the sport so special for many years. I ponder this every year at this time as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches which is when many of the great rivalry games were played. Sorry to digress....

As for the topic of this thread, I can't say if we the the 4th best team, the 10th best team or the very best team but if you consider the "eye test" which was always mentioned when during the four team playoff / NY6 Bowl era.... WE PASS WITH FLYING COLORS! That said we had better go 11-1 or things will get dicey.
