Barring something unforseen, What would be a fair expectation for A. Brooks at NCAA tournament this year?

Intermat Wrestling Top 11 (taking out Shak who is #2 for them right now, Lujan is 3rd)

1. Zahid
2. Lujan
3. Hidlay
4. DePrez
5. Venz
6. Darmstadt
7. Bonaccorsi
8. Bolen
9. Brands
10. Colbray

I see nobody on that list that AB can't beat except Zahid. I don't think it's a coincidence Cael pulled his redshirt and moved Rasheed to 197 instead of pulling Beard's RS. I think AB can get us a lot of points at 184 (and a healthy Shak a lot of points at 197)

I don't think this is an unfair topic to discuss. Nor do I think it places undue pressure on young Mr. Brooks. Since Cael was open to pulling the shirt, I'm 100% certain he grappled with this question as well.
The correct answer was given by McSoreley, anybody not named Zahid better beware of AB. He is the next ALL-TIME GREAT at PSU. The kid is a pure STUD.

WE ARE!!!

I think 2nd is certainly not out of the question if he stays on the other side of Zahid on the bracket. He is also a true freshman, albeit an incredibly talented one, so, we need to temper expectations a bit. I'm just anxious to watch him on the mat.

Let’s think about seeding first.

Brooks has to face:
#5 Venz
#9 Iowa’s Second Coming
and a cluster of #15-#20.

Then Big Tens.

Venz will be a tough out. But Would LOVE if Aaron could navigate that path and earn a 3 seed heading to NCAAs.

I agree but I also can see him winning it all. Not saying he will just saying with his speed and skill set he could actually beat anybody which is real scary he really is that good and Cael will only make him better

Yes - I backtrack on my wording. It's wrong for me to imply that he has no chance against Zahid at all, that's false, especially in a sport like wrestling and a kid as talented as AB. I think most would agree he would not be any kind of betting favorite against Zahid.

That is one wide open class after #1.

Water cooler talk. The college wrestling world is now his oyster.

No prediction, just train hard and improve, listen to the coaches, and keep up with his academics...same as all the wrestlers. Heaven only knows where he ends up in March, the opportunity to wrestle at Big Ten's and the NCAA Tournament is one he will surely embrace.

I totally agree and didn't mean to say you meant he couldn't win Zahid will be a tall order and ab won't be the favorite. I love the Vicenza Joseph feeling comong on. But ill squash it lol

Dont forget he also has mark hall who has a few matches against Zahid... Brooks is also alot closer to Z in size than mark is.

My expectations are, like DT, Ed, Zain, Jason, Nico, Q, Bo, Cenzo, etc., I'm going to go to extremes to catch every one of AB's matches. I have the same level of excitement as with Jason and Bo.

Where is Spyker when we really need him? What is AB's TRUE potential? We already have him on board so no need for a FULL COURT PRESS! But, can he beat Nico in the room? These are all questions that must be answered before we can draw any real conclusions.

HE NEEDS TO HIT THE WEIGHTS HARD !!!!

HE NEEDS TO DUMP HIS GIRLFRIEND !!!!

YOU CAN GET THREE BY CALLING THE TOLL FREE NUMBER !!!!

If he finishes 5th with a few bonus points...…..I think most would be pretty happy. That said...….I don't think too many people outside of HR would be shocked to see him in the finals. Either way.....he will be fun to watch.

When I posted the thread I was hoping to get a scouting report on Aaron and if he hasn't wrestled some of the ranked kids. Until Saturday I had never seen him wrestle.
I was impressed by his feet skills. I just don't know enough about him to know what is realistic. I thought Nolf and Nickal were going to be great in college because of their ability to score from any position.

Wrestling Mark and Shak can help expedite his learning curve too.

I hate to put a damper on things, but, armbartilt from HR has assured me that there is currently an ongoing investigation being done by the Big 10 into PSU illegally paying their recruits. He said that this is being done in the open and everyone is aware.

When I asked for a link or proof, I was called several names and told to stop typing from my mother's basement. He assures me that the day of reckoning is upon us at any moment.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Funny enough, despite his juvenile responses neither Grip or Turk (or anyone else) were there to police him, which I thought was something they claimed to do.

AB can’t beat Zahid in the same way that Cenzo couldn’t beat IMar. :)

edit: I now see you’ve backtracked on your wording.

And IMar couldn't beat Realbuto and Lewis couldn't beat Cenzo and on and on. I am long past being surprised when a frosh comes along and beats someone that can't be beat. That said, my main expectation of AB is that he has fun and that I/we have fun watching him wrestle.

Sorry, but the firehouse Turks fights his fires from sits on a one way street.

Among all these top wrestlers, anybody can beat anybody on any given night. That's the beauty of sport. So yes, AB can beat Zahid.
That said, the OP specifically used the term "fair expectations". Is it fair to EXPECT AB to beat the Hodge front runner and one of the most dynamic wrestlers around? I think most people would say no.
But it's gonna be damn fun to watch!!!

I’ve mostly seen Aaron in Freestyle, where he’s beaten the likes of Hidlay & Labriola. He has a lot of attacks—the ankle pick is special, though he likes and pins guys with a jonesy tilt (As he almost did vs Weiler). Seen a variety of cradles too.

It may not be fair to expect Nolf/Nickal level bonus out of the gates, but as Gibbons likes to say, someone is going to have to take him down several times to beat him. Like many greats, he seems to have a knack for turning opponent attacks into his own points—and I think our room will only elevate that.

He did lose to Ryan Christiansen at Midlands last year, but he didn’t have anything in the tank it seemed, and pops said he was sick. He also majored Ben Harvey.

He seems to have more mass than last year—it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets better as he adjusts to the gains.

What stands out to me is quickness, technique, and mat awareness. A powerful combo, and I’m as excited as everyone here to see what’s next.

Take off the blue and white shades ... he'll need at least the 2nd and probably the 3rd ....
You are missing an important fact. Zahid is not used to being on his back and so Brooks will probably pin him the first time he puts him there, so the means a first period pin for Brooks. Get a clue man!!! :)
