between BoJo and Hall? I know it was discussed but can't find the thread.

Thomas Ryan‏@Buckeye158
Been in the sport since the 7th grade. Never seen this not called a TD! Time for college wrestling to get serious about video review.

Eye test says TD, but I'm generally wrong on these things. I was very relieved when the ruling was announced. That said, I don't care one bit about how Ryan feels about it.

I sometimes think...and iirc the td by Imar is just one example...that the whole notion of "control" is getting lost with the emphasis of whether a guys hand momentarily touches down on the mat, or such.
If you have sufficient "control" of someone to be awarded a td, they should not be able to be "escaping" in a second.

I believe this is the rule on a takedown in the NCAA: A takedown shall be awarded when, from the neutral position, a contestant gains control by taking the opponent down to the mat in bounds and beyond reaction time. When a significant portion of the defensive wrestler’s weight is borne on a hand(s), it is considered control.

Thus - the issue is whether (a) Hall was taken down "beyond reaction time," and (b) is a "significant portion" of his weight borne on his hands. I think both are debatable here.

With that said, had we been on the other end of this call, we probably would be complaining as well.

It was a very difficult call. Reaction time still exists in college wrestling in that situation - there is no reaction time after control has been established e.g. rear standing and a third point (hand, head, etc.) hits the match. A still tells as much of the story there as it does in a pinning situation - pretty much nothing.

As it were, whatever call was made on the mat - two or no two - was likely to stand. Pretty hard to have enough indisputable evidence to overturn.

The reason the call is the way it is now is because of the inconsistency when referee subjectivity was allowed.

Maybe TanTom will get diarrhea in Aruba and have to sit on the can for ten days.

Personally I thought it was a td and a reversal. My problem is if they review it they should be allowed to call 2 and 2.

still action it and you could argue. but watch in real speed and it wasn't a TD.

Kind of bummed that someone in Tom Ryan's position couldn't keep his mouth shut andlet Mark have his moment. This is once in a lifetime for Mark and another day at the office for a grown man named Tom Ryan. The call was the call. How many kids left that tourney having to suck it up and keep driving on? Cutch for one had a great season and a sucky finish no tweets from him about life not being fair.

This ain't once in a lifetime for Mark. This will happen 3 more times in his career.
