Feb 23 -- Nolf vs. Dake, and more

To those who were complaining, I've pasted in the full list (so far--changes may still come) in my OP on this thread.

On the card: 24 NCAA championships, 6 Hodges, 5 World Championships & a Silver and Bronze, 1 Olympic Gold. #NotTooShabby

Just received an email from NLWC, which lists the entire card, so far, along with times. Obviously the senior card won't happen in that order, they'll have to space out the times for the guys going multiple times, which appears to be most of them. Such a great card, this is going to fun.

6:00 PM-Junior Card
163-Tyler Lillard vs. Erick Gibson
173-Gabe Arnold vs. Aaron Ayzerov
185-Cole Rees vs. TJ Stewart
HWT-Jim Mullen vs. Chase Horne
143-Shayne Van Ness vs. Josh Saunders
140-Nic Bouzakis vs. Nico Nardone
123-Dalton Perry vs. Kai Owen

7:30 PM-Senior Card
Jason Nolf vs. Kyle Dake
Vincenzo Joseph vs. Kyle Dake
Bo Nickal vs. Gabe Dean
Kyle Snyder vs. Scottie Boykin
Kyle Snyder vs. Gabe Dean
Kyle Snyder vs. Nate Jackson
Zain Retherford vs. Evan Henderson
Zain Retherford vs. Nahshon Garrett
Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Nahshon Garrett
Thomas Gilman vs. Sean Russell
Thomas Gilman vs. Zach Sanders
Vito Arujau vs. Sean Russell
Vito Arujau vs. Zach Sanders
David Taylor vs. Max Dean

No ticket for Strittmatter at Will Call - if you get my drift... and I know you do.

A blue and white color scheme would work too

So I guess the RTC’s have added yet another gray area by using these cards as unofficial recruiting trips? I know NLWC Is not the only RTC and pretty sure wasn’t the first to have younger kids on the cards (is this the first NLWC card that has?).

Yes, if you want to consider a recruiting trip a tour of a local hotel conference room.

Bouz should be impressed with the facilities and the parade of Lion alums he will see, but from a Cael POV he is not allowed to have any direct contact with him. Honestly, him being here now is slightly risky on that front, but no other coach has more integrity than Cael. Too few people talk about the man behind the grappler. Cael is an inspiration on many fronts.

That's OK, I am sure Zain, Jason, David, Bo,... will have no positive observations about the program to say. Heck even Gilman and Kyle should come across as neutral or better wearing a NLWC singlet.

Yeah that's kinda all I'm saying. Again I'm not saying it is specific to NLWC, the whole RTC model just seems like a big gray area already and the cards seem to be adding to that. I think they are great for the sport as a whole but IMO there is too much affiliation with the schools. Obviously NLWC happens to have the most "selling points" of the RTC's.

Are we sure this is new? I am admittedly a little light on the details, but I thought RTC's could bring high schoolers in to practice. The Lees were all in the room when they were still in high school (technically). Van Ness is wrestling with NLWC right now, right?

The 2016 Olympic Team Trials were a recruiting event for Spencer Lee.

I'm guessing this event will be at least 4 hours long. AWESOME!!!
I really enjoy being a fan of a team (PSU) and org (NLWC) that is leading in this next evolution of the sport.

when flo got into the game it really revolutionized the sport. The videos, the streaming, coverage of tournaments, media, online brackets, etc....just freaking kicked it into high gear for fans, parents and aspiring athletes.

But I believe rofkin is the next evolution. When you can set up a camera, stream your event and make some money for your athletes and organization, it will change the game.

Post covid and the evolution of 5G/streaming it will allow the sport to get to grandmas, Facebook, families considering the sport, etc.....

Before you had to sell your rights and we see how that worked for Ok State recently. This way you control it. Obviously these teams will need to support and staff it. If your a club coach and can monetize your teachings, ramblings, etc, it could allow coaches to make a couple bucks and grow the chances for wrestlers post competition.

Grayer than SEC football? Grayer than college basketball and AAU and shoe companies?

I’d say no because those things have already been the subject of investigations/penalties.

Has an RTC ever got in trouble for a recruiting violation? Or even in trouble at all? Closest I can think of is Mr. Fix’s Ostarine bottle and he didn’t even get fired.

Imagine if there was the Crimson Tide Football Club or Blue Devil Basketball Club that allowed Saban and Coach K to teach HS kids and the club to pay graduates from their program. I can’t because it would never happen.

Saban and Coach K have these things called summer camps where they do get to see the high school kids and I am sure they do receive some coaching from the Alabama and Duke staffs. Post graduate would never happen for football or basketball, wrestling for a RTC pays peanuts compared to the NFL or NBA.

There is no guarantee that if you wrestle at school that you will be a paid wrestler for their RTC.

No doubt PSU's RTC helps with recruiting, high school wrestlers interested in PSU have international aspirations, the success of the NLWC with the same coaches no doubt is attractive. Of course PSU lost what maybe the best 125 pounder ever because Iowa has its own RTC and it was a huge factor in Spencer Lee's decision.

The bigger this event gets the more I worry about someone bringing CV into our wrestling ecosystem. The event is going to be awesome and I am signing up for Rokfin again. I hope we get to see the juniors and a glimpse at Bouz.

I will go on record right now, I absolutely hate the timing.

Just a single wrestler or whomever they are allowed to travel with unwittingly brings it in, and passes it on, we will probably see it in testing just a few days before the Big 10 tourney. We are squarely in the period of zero room for error. I hope Cael builds a firewall between the NLWC and the team if one does not already exist today.

Perhaps it will put your mind more at ease when you think about the fact that nine of the thirteen senior matches include someone from Spartan Combat, who have their own "bubble."

I also note that Nahshon and Yianni are no longer listed. Such are our times...
