Finebaum ALREADY BITCHING... 😂

It took the result for the Crimson Tide Boot licker in him to show it's ugly face. I KNEW he would start crying if this happened. He didn't say Jack shit about it for two weeks, and you can bet your ass he wouldn't have said a thing had SMU win. He's pissed off that Penn State won.
Oh he would have had a lot to say! Glad he had to choke on it!!!

I have no trouble with the idea that SMU and Indiana didn't belong in the playoff. The hard part is, if you throw them out, who do you put in? If you consider Alabama you need to consider a lot of teams.

I’m growing very weary of the bitching about the committee selections. If teams play themselves into the top 5-7 by the end of the season, they will make the tournament. If ranked below that, they only have themselves to blame..
The problem you've got are teams like Indiana and SMU who played a soft schedule then play horribly in their playoff game. So you have all these people saying..." I told you so", Bama, Ole Miss and South Carolina should have all been in ahead of these teams because they are better. Technically they are probably right. All three of those 3 loss SEC teams beat SMU and Indiana on a neutral field. They probably beat them on Indiana's or SMU's home field even. So what do you do? Ignore the losses these teams have? Way over weight strength of schedule? There is a clear process where you slowly move up the rankings if you keep winning even if you start out unranked. You eventually work your way to the top 10 and this is what Indiana did. SMU essentially had the same path. Meanwhile these SEC teams beat each other up and as they lose they drop a few notches.

The best solution would be a computer poll so you don't have the human process I just described. Or you force the committee to have a very high weight on sos and force them to answer the question each week that despite a loss by say Alabama vs Oklahoma and despite a win for Indiana over some below average B10 team who do they really think would win if they played each other. They really are not doing that. Maybe defer to Vegas to answer that question.

I don't really think it's clear that a team like South Carolina is technically better than SMU. USC needed a last minute TD to overcome Clemson. The same Clemson that needed a last second field goal to beat SMU. They're all about the same, imo. SMU just didn't play up to their capabilities today, just like Bama didn't against Vandy and OU. This season is just a different animal.

Has

Has Finebaum ever played the game at a high level? Coached? Had to make the actual selections for the CFP? Each year, only 6-8 teams have a shot at winning the NC. 12 teams are too many and so there will be mismatches, especially in the opening round. Finebaum is paid to create controversy and hence boost ratings and viewers, not much more.
He couldn’t have fit a helmet over those ears do I say no he never played

Well to me it is clear both Alabama and Ole Miss are better than Indiana and SMU. You really think we have that cakewalk game today vs Bama or Ole Miss given the way we played? And probably A&M is better than both SMU and Indiana. So there you have it. You could have/should have swapped SMU and Indiana out for Bama and Ole Miss. Indiana and SMU didn't belong and it's hard to argue with that given how lousy each team played. I'm not kidding when I say let Vegas decide who would win these games then rank accordingly.

On most Saturdays you're probably right. The problem is, the only team that's been consistent this year is Oregon. That being said, yes, I think both Bama and Ole Miss struggle if they were playing in Beaver Stadium today. I don't think Indiana belonged in the playoffs. I think SMU did and I think they just happened to have their worst performance of the year today.

Hard to say how Bama and Ole Miss would have played in freezing cold weather with high winds. Easy to look good in bowl games every year played in warm weather in your backyard.

if you are a team from a conference that gets EVERY benefit of the doubt and still don't get in because you lost multiple games to mediocre at best teams then you have nothing to bitch about

I do not care at all if Alabama THINKS that they would beat SMU or if Kirk Herbstriet THINKS that Ole Miss would crush Indiana, who gives a shit?

if you want to just throw records out and say "oh well I just believe that these SEC teams are better" then go ahead, just say it in the rules right? It is a stupid invitational tournament and not a playoff, whatever

Yeah, hard to say another team only beat middle of the road teams when you lost to two middle of the road teams and they lost to none.

Why even play the games? Have Vegas look at all of the possible matchups at the beginning of the season and declare a winner on paper. Nobody gets hurt and the ”best” team won that year,

So we're back to eye test [who do they think would win] or no human element [computer.]. whatever happened to "this is why they play the games".

You can't really look at a single outcome to say someone didn't deserve to be there. Just because SMU and Idiana both laid am egg doesn't mean they didn't earn their spots. Do I think Bama would beat those teams.? Most likely but I also don't think they did enough to be in the discussion.

There's a reason SMU had their worst performance of the season.

Finebaum, says we're overrated, Ind, Clemson, and SMU don't belong. In his mind the SEC should have 8, + ND. The B1G should have 3 with us being a 12 seed.
Oh wait, didn't Tenn. beat Alabama. Perhaps the question he should answer is could Tenn be competitive with Indiana and SMU?

Indiana still went 11-1 playing a BIG schedule. It really wasn't their fault they missed the better teams.

I just find it hard to justify leaving out a team going 11-1 and playing a P4 schedule.

I disagree completely. In addition to getting beat by Tennessee they had a once every 50 years loss to Vandy and with the playoffs easily in reach got bitch slapped by a 6-6 Oklahoma team. Bama is where it should be. AT HOME
We saw yesterday and today SMU and Indiana shouldn't have been in. We all knew that before this weekend.

The objective is "the best 12"...even with the bad losses the overall resume was better. SMU lost to everyone they played with a pulse.

See Ohio State losing to Michigan. It means nothing. Upsets happen. It worked out well for us but the ACC now knows moving forward they'll never get the benefit of the doubt again.

Lmao at loado. There were more than a dozen analysts who picked SMU. I counted over 18.
How many picked Penn State? A few hundred.
Sometimes people pick upsets just to have an upset because everyone sane said the 4 home teams would win. They did. But it's boring for analysts to say that. Even Desmond picked us.
You can't take some seriously with their nonsense. What happened today will also happen on NYE.
By the way, the expectation being that we win easily is a good thing
As I said all week, this game was like playing Illinois. I still think Illinois would beat SMU

The best two(#1 vs #2)can be a blowout.

Maybe we should just let sports writers pick a champ.

Ps. You forgot to tell us Beau should not have blamed the ncaa. #1000thtime

I was hoping for blowouts by Texas and PSU precisely for that reason because neither the ACC nor the Big 12 should be getting more teams in than 1. ESPN will put intense pressure to make sure a 2nd non-conference champion team from the ACC like SMU never makes it in again, and they'd be right to do so.

The best two can be a blowout but that doesn't have anything to do with Indiana and SMU being rewarded for weak schedules. Neither were good.

Do you need told again? Once Stone visited Northwestern I won that fight

Agreed...this is best for Penn State. If we're ever a fringe team at 9-3 I'd be livid if an 11-2 SMU type was in over us. Today likely prevents that. Fair or not

Tennessee sure as hell wasn’t competitive against OSU.

So what you are saying is if your strength of schedule isn't top 50 you can't get in.

Who was least competitive?
Indiana, 10 pts, Clemson, 14 points, SMU 28 points or Tennessee? 25 points

After OSU's absolute massacre of UT, it's probably time to quit pretending Strength of Schedule means anything until the end of the year. Just like preseason rankings, they're garbage and only get a little better at the end of the regular season.

Right now, it looks like the mighty SEC should have only gotten 2 teams in the playoff and after the next round it might be less than 2.
