Joseph was out that match. We gave up 4 or 5 team points where Joseph would have earned 4 or 5.
Did you just mansplain what Lemonpie already said? And Keener and Lee were not in the lineup yet, which probably would have been a 6 point swing at 141 and Keener probably wouldn't get pinned. Not sure if everyone from Lehigh was healthy or not.

Lehigh kids won't lie down and take their beating like other teams, and if the Lions are not sharp Lehigh can with their counter approach make the Lions struggle.I was at the match. 174, 184 and 285 were very uncomfortable matches. I am convinced PSU will win, but it should still be a good early season test.

Bo Pipher took one for the team, he was listed on the roster at 141/149
I went with some friends, and we wished the match was on campus at that 5,000 seat facility. Know that will not happen going forward, such is life.
Lemonpie agrees with the "attractive ... Penn State" part. Especially with regard to last season's 197 weight class.... As a result the updated Grace Hall (where a makeover resulted in a reduced capacity to about 1,800) has proven sufficient for all but the most attractive opponents ( Penn State and Oklahoma State) ...
Penn State 49 - 0.Just so no one gets their hopes up, no, I am not ready for KYPSW picks for the Lehigh match.
students have not been attracted to Stabler, which is a couple of miles away "over the hill" and the teams have not been successful enough to attract a larger following.
As a result the updated Grace Hall (where a makeover resulted in a reduced capacity to about 1,800) has proven sufficient for all but the most attractive opponents ( Penn State and Oklahoma State) and will probably remain so for the future.
My only complaint was not seats on the floor six rows off the mat... the mat was raised too high for the floor seats to really enjoy. It's over 3 miles from Grace to Stabler - and up and down a small mountain. Don't they have buses for the students?
I wouldn't be surprised if the PPL Center in Allentown would be the home for all future Lehigh home matches against Penn State. It seemed like the event was a great success.
...Lehigh surrendered their "home field advantage" by switching it to the PPL Center but they probably doubled their income...
... they also made group ticket pricing available to local wrestling teams so that likely lessened the Penn State fans' impact a little...

And leaving the parking garage was AWFUL.
My first time there, I will park better next time. Two easy solutions. One, don't get floor seats. This happened to me and a friend during the Peter Gabriel "Growing Up Live" tour. We had floor seats with a raised stage and couldn't see the really cool stage changes. Luckily we were able to migrate to seats in the "stands" and get a much better view. I'm always leery of floor seats after that experience. Two, park on the street. There was plenty of on-street parking nearby.
"We discussed how Iowa had an advantage in the endowment funding."Being from the Lehigh Valley I grew up watching Lehigh wrestling on local TV. They would have a couple of kids from the area that I would follow from local high schools. Bobby Weaver , Mark and Bernie Brown to mention a few. It was in the early 80s when I would go see them wrestle against some better national teams. To this day Daryl Burley is one the greatest wrestlers I ever saw in person.
It was at that time when I would make it a point to go every other year to the Penn State match at Stabler.. I eventually changed my rooting interest and by 1998 I went to PSU match when they had Billlman against Lehigh. After the match I went to the local watering hole the Tally Ho and Fritz came in after the victory to have a few.. We discussed how Iowa had an advantage in the endowment funding.
Who would know in 12 years that Penn State would start to turn the tables on Iowa and the other national programs.
I was on the floor, too. Will know better next time. Parked on Hamilton for free less than 2 blocks from the arena. No problem getting out of town.My first time there, I will park better next time.
As for floor seats, I didn't expect the mat to be so high. Six rows off a low mat would be freaking awesome.
I thought Stabler was built mainly for external event revenue generation, such as concerts. No?...Lehigh's Stabler Arena (5,600) was opened in 1979, ostensibly to accommodate a growing interest in Lehigh basketball and wrestling, which had supposedly outgrown the capacity of Grace Hall (2,200) - which was on campus and within walking distance for students and nearby Lehigh "subway" fans from the surrounding South Bethlehem neighborhood. Unfortunately for Lehigh, things did not work out as expected for several reasons ... the subway fans have grown older and their attendance has declined, the addition of women to the student body has lessened the overall interest in sporting events, students have not been attracted to Stabler, which is a couple of miles away "over the hill" and the teams have not been successful enough to attract a larger following.
As a result the updated Grace Hall (where a makeover resulted in a reduced capacity to about 1,800) has proven sufficient for all but the most attractive opponents ( Penn State and Oklahoma State) and will probably remain so for the future.

Yeah, that and 7.39 extra scholarships (audited over a 4 year period that probably really happened from 1979_80 through the1990_91 academic years). Note that the Big Ten accounting rule was different than the NCAA rule, but OSU, MSU, and Northwestern followed the NCAA rules

Very interesting reading. Big Ten put a rule in that was contrary to the NCAA of how aide was calculated using out-of-state equivalencies (1978). NCAA told the Big Ten their rule needed to be amended as it was contrary to NCAA rules (1979). Big Ten tried to get this passed nationally, but it was rejected by the NCAA (1984). Big Ten rescinded the rule in 1990. NCAA started investigating in 1991 and requested audits in 1992. 1993 the 7 institutions admitted they were wrong (OSU, MSU and Northwestern had the sense to follow the NCAA rules).
For the wrestling part (remember this affected a few minor sports and not just wrestling), the seven schools had these audited extra scholarships over the 4 year period of the audit:
Illinois: 0.0
Indiana: 1.74
Iowa: 7.39
Michigan: 0.60
Minnesota: 1.73
Purdue: 0.0
Wisconsin: 0.865
Which number jumps out the most? Iowa had 60% of the illegal wrestling scholarships across the Big Ten. Second most was Iowa Baseball at 6.83 and Indiana baseball at 5.36. Illinois, Michigan, Purdue and Wisconsin had very small infractions (all less than Iowa's Wrestling portion).
Now, it is interesting that Iowa started a nine year NCAA run from 1978-1986, exactly when the new rule took place!!!! They certainly had the greatest coach ever, but while others were limited to 11 scholarships, Iowa was using an extra 1.85 per year. Imagine if any top 5 program now had an extra 1.85 scholarships!!
Enjoy the reading. While the Big Ten was censured, every program knew they were violating the NCAA rules.

Vodka is currently the NCAA Compliance admin at Iowa, with a specific task to make certain no wrestlers use the NCAA banned saunas. How is it that Vodka wasn't reporting on this. Seems he's only become interested in alleged NCAA violations more recently![]()

Cael? I am uncertain if Cael is ever attacked. Apparently there is some guy named Carl who is affiliated with the program and he is really disliked over on HR. I have never been able to find out who this guy is, but my God all the things he does he must be a really bad dude. This needs to be pinned for easy access when Cael is attacked
