Fitz is a world class dickhead. I'll never forget him taunting our fans a few years back and exorting his team to do the same. Sorry to post contrary to the accepted "nice, class guy" narrative.
So coaches always laugh with their players when they get tossed for obvious targeting?I think he told the kid the refs made a bad call. He was telling him life isn't fair.
He was consoling him.
Led with his helmet what else do you need to write about.I try to be objective when I watch these games. I believe the officials called the play in question correctly according to the rules of the game, but I do not for a second believe it was a cheap shot nor do I believe there was intent to cause an injury, as I've seen posted in one of today's threads.
It was two kids playing hard. The young linebacker was a tad late getting to the throwing QB. He got his head in the wrong position and paid the price for it. But he did not wrap up and drive McSorley into the ground. Just because the rules call it "targeting" doesn't mean he did it with intent. Nobody will ever convince me it was a dirty play.
Fitz played linebacker and was probably in a similar situation a dozen times in his career. If the kid comes off the field and says "Sorry coach, I didn't mean to hit him like that," what is Fitz supposed to do?
My guess, and it is only a guess, is Fitz was telling him he understood what happened and to learn from it. The young man had played an exceptional game up to that point, then suddenly had to leave the field.
I've never understood how so many who post here look for the smallest things to beech and whine about during every game. If it is not the officials, it is the announcers or a three-second view of the opposing coach which allows them to jump to some wild conclusion. Or the PSU coaching staff while the team is rolling up 30+ points and pitching a shutout for 55+ minutes.
I notice a number of Pitt trolls in this thread defending Fitzgerald. I guess that’s what Pitt fans do when their team loses to....Syracuse.
So does Franklin. So did O Brien and Joe. They all do. It's part if the game. What game were you watching? He was not calm the entire game. He was going full Narduzzi a few times in the first half. I thought he was acting like a douche on the sidelines.
I agree. That said, he needs to be a little more self aware. The impression he gave was that he was laughing about an illegal head shot.I thought Fitz cleared it up to acceptable level during his press conference.
He reminds me of Butch in Home Alone.I didn't pay attention to how Fitz acted on the sideline. What was more revealing to me was talking to a player's family in the stands, and hearing their comments and - even moreso - their expressions and tone of voice when they made them.
One example was after a series of plays when PSU had been successful. One woman's tone when she said "Monday is NOT going to be fun" sounded much more ominous than you'd expect. I've heard that phrase a lot, but it's always been more along the lines of maybe expecting some extra gassers. This was like "the beatings will continue until..."
Another: I commented that I thought the woman's son had done something well, but could have been much better had he read the play instead of following the script. I was told, in no uncertain terms, they get in trouble if they don't follow the script no matter what, in the same ominous tone.
But the worst was when I said I thought Coach Fitz was doing a great job for NU and seemed to really care about his players. All I got were eyerolls; otherwise, crickets.
Like I said, to me, this was more telling than the 'aw, shucks' guy you see in the midweek presser. Speaking of presses, did he seem pretty manic in the post game pc to anyone else?
He reminds me of Butch in Home Alone.
Smile? Or was it more of a shit-eating grin?A bit of overreaction to Fitz smiling.
He mentioned in post game PC the kid came over to him after the hit and was pretty upset and emotional and he wanted to be positive..... but he takes responsibility for correcting how those tackles were made.
Guy was yucking it up after his player got ejected for an obviously illegal and dangerous hit. Is he low-class or just stupid?Well, obviously Fitzgerald has now been put to trial by an impartial jury of his peers, with an evaluation of all possible evidence. He is clearly guilty. Hang him.
PSU won. Nice job. None of us have any idea of what went on or what the NU coach was thinking at the time. I doubt Fitz will face any consequences either by the League or in the court of true public opinion
This is especially true for MSU. What a benefit it was to them. Do you think that D'Antonio ever could have dreamed that last year's beat down in Beaver Stadium would have been possible? That was beautiful.Could you imagine the outrage if Franklin would have done that? People are still talking about his time out against GA State.
It's pure jealousy that PSU didn't get killed by the sanctions and are back to kicking ass.
And not one of these people that are up in arms about what happened gives one **** about"the kids". They're pissed because they thought PSU would be out of it and it would be a easy win for their teams. Losers...
I have no problem with coaches getting irate, but not when it's a blatant penalty. The face mask and the PI were both blatant and you could easily see it on the replay video (I'm assuming NW has replay in the stadium). So does Franklin. So did O Brien and Joe. They all do. It's part if the game.
Lost all respect for Fitzgerald when he was laughing with his player after the hit on McSorley.
