FLO - HWT Predictions

Do we have any REAL info on Nevills' offseason, his progress and health?

If healthy, seems he has potential to be a top 5 guy.

He seemed like one who could really benefit from heavy regiment of weight lifting. Didn't appear to have the upper body strength to beat the big boys. Hopefully, this has been somewhat corrected.

The pennlive photos of the recent kickoff preseason intro/dinner/auction for the wrestling team - there was a photo of Nevills and folks commented that he looked in better physical condition.

Tough to draw too many conclusions from the photo.

Spyker attends all the practices so maybe he can provide more info.

Nick is going to be very tough this year....He is going to shock a lot of people....No i don't go to practice everyday....lol

Freshman year Nick broke his foot. No deadlifts, no squats, no cleans - all the exercises that force multiple large muscle groups to work together as a single unit Nick couldn't do.

Last year the pec muscle so still no deadlifts or cleans as well as a very limited upper body workout.

Nick has lost 2 years of prime strength training opportunities.

I imagine with a healthy offseason of strength training his physique will be noticeably improved but he will always be lacking that lost 2 years.

In his redshirt year, Nevills was in the 240-245 lb range IIRC. He wasn't huge, but was pretty quick and athletic, and looked pretty good until he broke his foot. The next year, after recovering from the pec injury, he was about 263 lb (again, IIRC). However, the additional weight appeared to be mostly flab; he looked MUCH better physically IMO at around 245. Plus, he was clearly still shaking off the rust from lack of competitive matches.

Additional strength is always a good thing, but I think mostly Nevills needs to get in better condition and lose the flab he put on from year 1 to year 2 (plus of course stay healthy). Brute strength is not his MO. If he comes in at a fit 250 lb or so, that might be ideal.

Nick just needs mat time, imo. Not talking practice room.

Expect the progression of a very talented RSFR during the course of the year...maybe better. He's a RSSO, so mentally he will be further along...
