I mean, it's been 24 hours and we haven't gotten one more "We Are... Better". This is completely unacceptable to me. While not mathematically possible, a fact I shall choose to ignore, I want a commitment every day, at least one, from now until signing day. Anything less and I'm giving up on this program and I'm going to look for a program who can achieve this lofty goal. Before anyone chimes in, I know, only in the SEC can a team get 1 commitment per day from now until LOI day and make it work... I have integrity and wil not root for any SEC team so that is not an option.
I'll go serious for a moment so if you've read this far, you may find this post of some limited value anyway. Just when I have an idea on what we might be doing, things change. So far today I've learned that Vanover will be a DT, thus giving us 4 in this class, and as such, Zuriah Fisher is still in play at DE. If we get Fisher, that's 7 DL in this class, I did not see that coming. We also may take up to 3 TEs. Now I'm not expecting us to land 3, but it's a possibility. Heck, we may wind up taking 2 RBs and 2 more WRs, too.
This is as good a place as any to list the last 7 or 8 guys we are in the best shape with. In order of probability of commiting to Penn state as of today (always subject to change)-- this is only my opinion, others may disagree.
1. OT Devin Willock
2. RB Caziah Holmes
3. WR Joshua Downs (a little birdy tells me we're likely getting him- or is that just wishful thinking on my part? I'll never tell)
4. TE Cole Taylor (although I suspect if we get Theo Johnson, Taylor will go to LSU-- in fact, even if he commits, if Theo Johnson then commits, I could see Taylor flipping to LSU- just my opinion, I know Phil disagrees with me)
5. Theo Johnson (he and Taylor, we'll get one of them
The above 4 are the ones I'm most confident about right now so there's 4 more to be added, taking us to 24. Safety is one position I feel we must get at least 1 more. Based on who is out there, I rank their likelihood of commiting to us as follows:
1. Elijah Gaines
2. Mordekai McDaniel (above Paige only b/c of the opinion I gave about Paige below)
3. Makari Paige (I get the feeling he's between O$U, Kentucky and then us, in that order, so if there's no more room at the Inn at O$U, I think he chooses Kentucky)
If we get 1 of the above safeties, we'll be at 25 and we'll have 2 or 3 more spots to fill with best athletes available. I put Zuriah Fisher in that category. I also put Anton Harrison in that category as well. Same with Jalen Berger. All are waiting to commit so it's entirely possible there will be new guys on our radar by the time these guys decide. Last thing I'll note, Fadil Diggs took an OV so while I think the chances are extremely, extremely slim, with the way recruiting works, he could flip and knock Fisher out of the running-- let me be clear, I'm not predicting that, I doubt that happens, but just something to keep in mind.
Remember what the BWI guys said about taking a 3rd TE? I'll throw another name out there-- Charles Finley. There's a couple more WRS out there, too. Keandre Lambert is a name I've heard we're in good shape with. Would we take both Downs and Lambert? I think we probably would.
Now if one of the kids I mentioned would just commit already, my unrealistic expectation could at least be met for one more day *sigh*
