Take it for what it’s worth, but Willie said that he talked to Cael and Cael thinks that Teske can make 125 next season...

So first Willie says Teske leaving Penn State, then Willie reports that he's heard no way Teske makes 125, now Willie saying reports from Cael are Teske can make 125.

Hmmmm. I'm inclined to believe that the most credible update is the one he got from Cael.

Of note, Willie said Cael thinks he can only make it for one more year, which creates serious problems down the road at the weight (not to mention a log jam at 133, though that's probably more Teske's problem than Penn State's). It would explain why they went after Byrd pretty hard. Who do you guys think they go after now for 125?

2019 has now been picked clean at 125.

2020 has a lot of 125s (note, these are Willie's rankings but not necessarily his projected weights, so some might be 133s):
14 Greg Diakomihalis NY Cornell
18 Jakason Burks NE Oklahoma State
25 Kysen Terukina HI
28 Eddie Ventresca NJ Virginia Tech
29 Aaron Nagao CA
37 Tristan Lujan CA Fresno State
38 Jacob Rundell IL
39 Cullan Schriever IA Iowa
44 Jeremiah Reno MO
47 Shelton Seymour PA
59 Kyle Rowan OH
64 Anthony Clark NJ
66 Lachlan McNeil Prep
67 Jason Miranda CA
70 Dylan Cedeno NJ
82 Ethan Basile FL
87 Dominic Chavez TX

Also not listed: Jesse Ybarra (AZ), committed to Iowa.

I really like Seymour -- he looked like a mini Nolf in the PA postseason, both in terms of pace and variety of attacks. But emphasis on mini, he was at 106 as a JR. Unless he hits a growth spurt, he'll need to shirt right away to gain size.

They already have him. Robbie Howard.

Maybe he makes 125. He wrestled 126 this season as a junior in HS. That said a lot of the top kids don't cut much or any weight in HS so maybe he can make 125 but I wouldn't count on it.

Sat next to Robbie and his parents at NCAA’s. Great people. He said 133 was the original plan and he even shied away from schools that saw him as a 125. However, he isn’t growing and 126 isn’t hard to make. He thinks he’ll be wrestling 125 at PSU.

This may prove true, but how does he know he has stopped growing? He isn't 21, he hasn't yet hit a college weight room, and he may need to (someday) outgrow 125 to help his freestyle 57 kg goals.

We'll see, but if this is the plan, we'd be smart to have a backup plan.

I think RBY cutting to 125 is a possibility.

As the post Nico years have shown, we should pretty much always have two backup plans. 125 is so tough to forecast, when guys are that small a little growth goes a long way. But if he can make even a year or two there it would be great to give us a chance at some stability.

Among the best ways I know is to look at Mom and Dad. Not perfect, but hard to fight genetics.

In a previous life I coached a kid who was a big-time recruit. One of the questions asked by a coach that most posters on here love to hate was "how often does he shave?"

in a different thread i suggested that the source of the teske to 133 rumors was that he wrestled at 133 in february and people seemed to think that didn't mean anything about what he'll wrestle in the future.

they may be right and we don't know anything at all, but it's hard for me to not think that the weight that they wrestled at most recently would be the weight they wrestle at next, until i get more concrete information.

Berge wrestled 157 last year in opens and went 149 this year.

I believe that Ed Ruth wrestled 184 throughout his redshirt year before dropping down to 174 for the next season. Jordan Conaway made the Round of 12 at 133 before dropping down to 125 and making AA.

not sure how accurate but is sort of related.... I remember telling my brother about some kids on my son's soccer team (u14). We had a boy that the opponents parents always wanted to see birth certificates. My brother asked if he was Italian and he went on to recount all of the Italian descent kids in his Junior High that were so far advanced (height, weight, muscle).... He did follow up with the comment that everyone did catch up when in HS. Looking back at my HS years there were similarities with some families. Funny thing, my two boys and 3 brother-in-laws who have Italian in them didn't start to physically fill out until post 19! (lesson learned - be careful when categorizing!)

One of my HS classmates had a 5 o'clock shadow in 3rd grade.

OK, that's a slight exaggeration -- more like 7th grade.

Point being, that's not much of an indicator.

Crookham is 2022. He is 100% an all out blitz kind of kid. Not sure what size he will work to, very well could be a few weights above 125 by then.
Crookham wrestled 120 this year. Very strong possibility he'll never see 125 in college.

And that won't stop the FULL COURT PRESS !!!!

Correct on both counts.

See also Micah Jordan

Or Caleb Livingston going HWT one year on the whole pizza diet, and then dropping to 165 the next.

I'll defer to your medical background on this.

My point of sharing is that this was one thing- not the only thing, mind you- used by an NCAA Championship-winning coach who recruits kids and projects their weights for a living.

@Lyons212 and @dpd926 you guys are right, those things did happen. but anecdotal evidence doesn't disprove anything. people who get flu shots still get the flu sometimes, but most don't. any guy who wrestles at any weight at the end of one season, is most likely to wrestle at the same weight next season.

I'll bet that coach has no medical background, and his eye test produces eye test quality results in that area.

Meaning that caveat "it's only one way he judges" is more true than he'll admit. He likes to say it and may even believes what he says.
